i think that there might be a lot of wonderment about how to get a good scope so i just had an idea. I used an old pair of binoculars and took off one of the lenses. then i put it inside some pve (lucky that it was a perfect fit) and wala! you have a scope. Hope that solves some wonderment

Forgive me if I am mistaken, but doesn't the system of binoculars (or any magnification device for that matter) rely on the 2 (or more) lenses working together? Otherwise, you've got a magnifying glass attached to a tube. If it works for you, more power to ya though.

Well, for 10 bucks you could get a fine scope made by Tasco, Bushnell, or the other cheapie optic companies, and have at it.

My question would be; why would you need a scope for NERF anyway? The ranges don't necessitate a magnified scope, and with eye relief issues (your eye needs to consistently be a set distance from the eyepiece or you'll just see blur; the guys who do have scopes on their firearms know what I mean) and the amount of running and movement during a NERF war, a scope would seem to only become a hinderance. Or "bling-bling".

On my stock class paintball gun I have a Tasco red dot sight; keep both eyes open, put the red dot on target, and wham! But for NERF, I prefer a simple "ghost ring" peep sight.

Why not just cut a section of 1/2" PVC, 1/4" long, and glue that on your blaster for a quick peep sight...put your target in the ring and shoot! Forget the loser crap. Run and gun!

Scopes have no place in a Nerf war simply because nerf guns dont have the consistant range or accuracy for a scope to be useful.

The only thing I could see any use on them would be a really really sexy 5k. But most clans will ban them suckers within' seconds. But....yeah, for the most part, they are cool for looks, but past that I see no purpose either. I'm now interested if a scopes look is complimented by assloads of duct tape....

It would be usefull to put a sight on the top of a gun. Just like a ridge on the top of the gun that is parallel to the barrel. It's hard to tell what direction the barrel is pointed in vertically on a single barrel 1500 because of the funky curve of the top of the gun. usually I end up just fireing it off the hip so I can at least see peripheraly what direction the barrel is pointed in.

I dunno. I think a 4x scope could be useful on a 5k or a homemade. You're not exactly runnin and gunnin with those things anyhow.

I'm working on a project that might end up being accurate enough to make use of a scope. We'll see.

Something I've found that I really like is fiber optic sights. They work just like a normal site on a rifle but they come in neon colors making them a lot easier to use when on the move. You can buy ones that go on bows and mount them on your gun. That might be what you need Langley.

One fiber optic, let's say it's a red one. Then you have two fiber optics in the back, let's say green. The way this works is you line up the three optics with each other so you know your shot is lined up. This won't help you any. At least with like a red dot scope, you have a zoom and a dot to aim at a target.

The sight on the top of the BBB works really well on mine. I just look through and line up my target with the tip of the black tube thing on the top of the gun. From 40 ft. I can hit a 2 in. target using that gun. I was surprised that it really worked.

All right, here's the thing, gents: as I've said almost every time this topic comes up (which is rather often-- I've been informed that scopes are very cool looking, and therefore desirable), even if you found a scope that worked for you, it is simply not worth it.

Let's say you had a gun with an EFFECTIVE (not maximum) range of 80 ft, consistently accurate to within a four square inch area-- no one owns such a weapon, but let's just pretend one exists. Now, you toss a scope on that sucker to help you aim, let's say just a little 4x20 Tasco or some such. So now you have a weapon that has immense range and accuracy with an aiming system that helps you to hit a stationary target on the dime.

But, therein lie the problems. Effective use of a scope requires that the gunman be stationary. Ever try aiming down a 4x20 while on the run? You can barely see let alone aim accurately. Next, if your target is moving, you need to learn to lead him. Given the very low velocity of the projectile foam, and the tiny momentum providing easy misdirection from wind, it becomes nigh impossible to determine the proper leading distance at that range while peering down those optics.

Now let's take that same gun and remove the idea of a scope. We assumed an accuracy of 4 square inches; even the slim side profile of your average thirteen year-old has about a 6 inch width and a 50 inch height. That's a lot of allowance for quirks of aiming. If you fire at him head on, suddenly you've got a few square feet of target area. Even firing from the hip, on the run, a good Nerfer should be able to hit this target with our phantom weapon, if at all within range.

Conclusion: a scope would do nothing but slow the user down and open up vulnerabilities for your opponents to exploit.

I would never put a scope on a nerf gun unless it was very powerful and I was going to use it to shoot stuff up.

Since the only time a scope is useful is when a target is still, you aren't going to get to use it very often. I wouldn't waste the money on a scope.

Well... I would. True, a scope isn't much help when your target is moving. True, a scope isn't any help when you are moving. However, there's another way to use a scope. Think of it as a tactical telescope, conveniently attached to your gun. You can use it to look at enemy action way down the field, and if you've got a powerful gun, you can find (and shoot at) the guy who's trying to work his way towards you.
I'm not recomending that everyone go out and buy a bunch of scopes and slap them on all their guns, but a scope (when used correctly) can be a bunch of help.
Not trying to land on anyone, just voicing an opinion, etc.
