I was visiting the local 100 Yen store down the road and dropped in on some little department store that was selling a green nite finder ripoff. It is almost exactly detail-for-detail the same as the usual Americanese NF. It's made by Yada Toys, and the brand on the box says 'WeCan Japan'. Out of the box it shot like a modded NF, getting between 20-30 feet. Here's the pics.






What would it be worth back in the USA? It was about $20 here.

Sorry, but I don't know how modable it is. It had a very interesting pluger that seems to be what makes the difference between that and a normal NF. It also didn't have a real air restrictor. It had a little '+' in the barrel that took me only a minute and a knife to remove. It has much more internal space, becauase it doesn't have a flashlite. It's probably much more modable cosmetically then an American gun. I'll post internal pix soon.

I'm kinda hoping someone will order one from me so they can tell us what the best mods to do are. I'm still more towards the noobish side as far as modding goes.

Please also take a picture or two of the spring so we can compare it to that of a 1st gen. NF. It sure does look a lot like one.

Interesting. You can tell that it's a rip-off because they only give you 3 darts and the target that comes with it has 5 targets. Does that mean the toy makers != doing math?

Yada Toys Is an Indonesian based toy company specializing in, I kid you not, large furry ride-on animals.

Under the crushing economy, Yada toys has apparently branched out to nerf ripoffs.

couldn't Yada get sued by Hasbro? Or since it's Japanese is it protected?

This gun is pretty simple. It's not branching far out from furry rideable animals.

That's very weird that a company would make an almost exact replica of a night finder and get away with it. The plunger head looks strange. Also did you mod it or did you leave it stock?

No if any company rerealesed the crossbow it would suck, because it wouldn't be nerf. It would be Crossbowing (As first said by Ice). The green on the NF is a little interesting, I would have liked a little more black in there.

Well, a lot of countries have agreements on protecting copyrighted, trademarked, and patented materials. I don't know exactly what the standing is between Japan and the US on patent protection, but both signed and ratified the Patent Cooperation Treaty, so I would think that a lawsuit is possible. Unless Yada got a license to produce nerf products under their name. But I doubt that's likely, especially considering the long relationship between Hasbro and Takara Tomy.

The plunger does look impressive as hell compared to the current NF. I wonder if Japanese safety regualtions are less strict than US ones.
