yes I know (or at least I have read) that recons are kinda extremely erotic here, but I kinda like the look of it, but the technique needed to cock it sucks big time (hand over the top to pull it back) and with the front barrel extension on it, the rail on the bottom of the extension is basically begging to have a shotgun grip ala capt. slug LS grip done to it.

so without further adieu here's my first mod. Ill do better pics later when I get a better camera (using my cell phone camera at the moment)

Parts used:
LS front gun:
grip
screws
1 piece of polycarbonate approx 6" x 10"

Needed:
Exacto knife
something to cut the polycarbonate
marker
5/32 drill bit
hot glue
epoxy

I just got done tearing apart the front gun for my LS and had the parts strewn about my desk, and my brand new Recon lying on here also, and while I was browsing the forums figuring out what to do to it i realized nobody likes them. That's understandable, I only bought it for the looks, and the attachments for my Vulcan.

but I saw the LS front gun grip, and thought... Hmmm that would look great on the recon as a pump. and so, 2 hrs later, some hot glue, some epoxy a few pieces of polycarbonate and some screws here's the result:

I had to put 2 pieces of the poly as spacers in the grip to accommodate the width of the barrel, so I had to use some long screws, luckily the screws from the back of the ls front gun were about an inch in length and they worked excellent, I had to drill 2 holes in the poly spacers in order to get the grip to fit properly but it worked well. those spacers also became an excellent slide base (or top depending on your perspective) for the grip against the bottom rail of the barrel.

I shaved down some of the raised pieces of the grip in order to accommodate the poly pieces that connect to the slide (along with the stud that slides through the front gun body). and epoxied a 10" by 1" piece of poly to that area I just prepared and reinforced it with some hot-glue.

Posted Image

I then cocked the Recon, and put the completed fore grip against the barrel, exactly where it was going to go and all the way back so its in the fully primed position. During this time its easiest to have the sides of the slider off and working with them individually. I then drew an outline around the poly pieces and taped them to the slide. then using a very small drill bit, I drilled 3 holes per side, and using the screws from the body of the LS front gun I fastened the slide, and the grip. make sure that you use some of the shorter screws so that the screws don't scrape against the side of the body of the gun. On the side that has all the warnings I had to shave the letters off with the knife in order for the slide to fit nicely, also on both sides there is a fake "screw" on the slide that I had to cut off in order for the poly pieces to fit properly.

After that its a small task of putting everything back together and testing it out.

this mod was made to be removable, I was originally going to epoxy the poly pieces straight to the slide, then I decided against it because I figure I would want to paint it, or work on it later (possibly put the stock reinforcement mod/spring mod I saw earlier in)

anyways there ya go! my first mod submitted for everyone.

ideas/comments/suggestions?

Very nice. Very clean. I was tempted to do this if my LS front gun fore grip wasn't used.

this kind of defeats the point of customizing the gun. But still a good mod. good job!

But it does take a piece of shit and turn it into a pump action piece of shit.

Another great tutorial on polishing a turd.

In all seriousness, good job. Bigger pictures would be good.

Na if your talking about adding the different things to the rails, you still have the rail on the top of the barrel (which in my one picture i have the tac-light on it, and then you also have the rail on the slide itself. and yes you can still use that rail, in fact I'm thinking about putting the LS scope on it, only thing ill have to watch out for is when I cock it the scope doesn't hit me in the face

EDIT: I fixed the first two images being so small when you clicked on them.

Well done! (Although when you said shotgun, i thought you were going to add a more...shotgun-looking gun to the bottom, well thought out none the less)
Are you going to add the spring extensions now? (because you pretty much need the stock to pump it anyway)
I was thinking of saving up for a long shot too, thanks for making my decision that much easier!

Go to hasbro and get the recall arm bar cover, and use that instead of the stump you have. It'll give you room for a spring extension.

Another great tutorial on polishing a turd.

Off topic: MythBusters did that, and proved that it can be done and to a high gloss, but it is still a turd

Nice mod though, looks very usefull.

Wow, really nice. I just recently got a recon and have been modding it this week, and since I have a LS front gun sitting in my closet, I am definitely going to do this mod.

I would clean up your entire post though, there is a lot of capitalization errors in there.

All in all, wonderful first mod.

Yes I know I'm necroing my own topic, but I have a question: where can I get the replacement stock that Boisie was talking about? I checked Hasbro.com and couldn't find it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Also after playing around with my mod for a while I discovered that the front grip gets kind of loose after a few days, Id recommend hot-gluing it together or epoxying it.

Also the grip gets stuck on the orange decoration on the barrel when you cock it, Id recommend cutting it off of the barrel, or if you like the look of it, trim the grip all the way flush from where the poly strips that connect to the slider ends.

Other than that I haven't noticed any other problems

It's under product safety. Here is a link: http://www.hasbro.co...S-6-Blaster.cfm

It's just a plunger tube cover, though. Not a whole stock.

Also, it's not really a necro until the topic is dead for over a month. But as long as you add something worthwhile, it's usually okay to post in YOUR OWN topic even after that time.
