Ok i got my FF today. Was really happy with it. It feels nice when i hold it. It makes me feel warm inside. Now i shoot it and a piece of me died inside. it got 15ft max with a 10 ft min. So i took out the restrictor/pegs and my new max was 15 and the min was 2 ft (one barrel just makes the dart flop out.) (these are ranges with the glow in the dark darts.) now i wanted to know if anyone had this problem or understand why the ranges is'nt better. maybe i need to do a spring replacement or o-ring addition to see a range improvement. Did the FF rob me of my money

Yes, fireflys suck. There isn't a mod out there that I know of that changes this.
BadWrench and I are working on it though, but it will take more work than most mods take to be good and consistent.

The glow darts are the worst kind. Use streamlines or whistling darts and they can go up to 50 ft. when they catch the air.

This reminds me of last year when I tried to sell a basic Firefly mod like yours around Christmas time. As luck would have it, there was some guy who listed his Firefly right after me claiming that it had a double plunger setup which could fire 100 ft. Needless to say mine did not sell. So if you're that guy please do tell us how you made it.

You probably do need to do the other mods to get reasonable ranges, but another idea is that you didn't really take out the ARs. I don't really know what you did besides your description but it sounds like you did, maybe you did a bad job (not trying to be mean but everyone has a bad mod every once in a while). So just tinker with it and see what you get.

EDIT: Darn my slow typing! Boba and auto beat me to it.

I petg'ed my firefly barrels. Added a sprng. And took out the AR's. I am getting 75 feet flat with my stefans.

Exactly what I am talking about. It is a fairly good gun after medium to hard modification. Those ranges do sound like bs though.

The Firefly is probably he best gun for whistler darts, they fit perfectly and you can fire it fast enough to make them funny.

Im building a 1in air chamber for a FF but had to work on my buzzbee springer again when it broke so It must wait.

I'm sorry to burst a few people's bubbles ,but the only thing decent about the FF is it holds more ammo than a maverick. With some serious modification it gets ok ranges but not for its weight or size. It sounds a little defective, did you put some sort of sealant on the rear end of the barrels where the AR's were? If you didn't air will escape immediately.

EDIT: I mean on the inside of the chamber not where the plunger head makes contact with the barrels.

There is no way anyone is getting 75 feet with a FF without replacing the stock firing mech. 50 is still an enormous stretch.

The firefly is pretty much a turreted nitefinder. You have to put three springs in a nitefinder to make it shoot 80 feet. Now, with the horrible seal on the turret, getting these ranges would not be very plausible. Not calling you a lair, if you have any proof, please show it to us.

I think you got a defective blaster. I bought a FF for my girlfriend that I'm feminizing (rhinestones, pink paintjob, etc,) for Christmas and both (mine and hers) shoot way harder than my maverick.

It sounds like a seal issue. It's true that the glow darts suck, they seem to have a smaller diameter. Try firing with taggers or stefans.

Also, the FF has a lot of moving parts. It seems that many either love or hate the gun. Could it be that the production process is flawed and inconsistent, thus leading to the terrible ranges on some people's guns?

Agreed, although I didn't add any springs, my FF barely hits 45 after PETG.

I'd love to see the spring that SilentSnipe claims to have added that magically adds 30 feet to that. The FF plunger tube isn't that big and there's really not all that much room for more spring power in there.

Yes the FF does carry more ammo than a maverick, but it also has a bigger plunger tube than a maverick thus making it more powerful. I could understand a spring replaced, re-barreled, extra o-ring added FF using good stefans getting 50-60ft ranges anything more than that is just BS ranges.

Also why would you put a sealant on the end of the plunger tube? You don't want anything blocking the passage of the air from the plunger tube to the barrel. A spring gun is not like an air gun to where it holds air under pressure, a spring gun holds air in a plunger tube(not under pressure), when the plunger head with a air tight seal pushes the air out of the plunger tube hitting the dart, thus making the dart fly. So why would you want a sealant where you described restricting air flow to the dart when you want nothing blocking the path of the air. So orogomi ninja, I think you are mistaken.

What you say sounds like it could be true, but in reality, you have no clue what you're talking about. The plunger tube is smaller than both that of a Maverick and a nitefinder. Also, larger plunger tube doesn't always mean more power (big Snap < SnapBow).

The sealant is to increase the seal between the plunger tube and the spring loaded piece that seals to the turret, which is the main weak point in the firefly's air route. It's in the modification directory. Just read a little information on what you're talking about every so often.

This thread is a train wreck though. It's well established that Fireflies have little to no potential. We don't need people to have a dedicated thread to whine about it in.

The most I've ever gotten a FF to go was a 50 average, which made it a lot of fun for small basement wars.

No, I am not, I am referring to the barrel chamber,
Posted Image
This is a maverick from Baghead's maverick mod. the rear of the barrel is what I am referring to. Silly
I know how they work, sorry to be blunt but I don't need a lecture from someone who is unsure if I understand. If I don't I'll let you know.
Thank you Splitlip!

The ff is a great choice when it comes to indoor wars. It is not a maverick because it does not use a reverse plunger set-up. My ff has been able to hit 50' consistently.

About the seal. The ff seal is a great idea. Too bad they made it so poorly. Now if you are able to fix the seal from the plunger tube to the turret, that gives the ff everything you need for an indoor war. Good enough range, lots of darts that can be shot out faster than a mav, and a light for blinding people in the dark. What else could you want?

No, but they should have put the craft foam on the part on the plunger. I tried that with my FF, and when I tried to put it inside the turret, I failed Effeminateally. So it went on the part that is between the plunger tube & turret. Pull ARs, add a DS spring, and do the craft foam thing, and a gun that was s*** stock turns into a SilentSnipe-ranged beast. So if I am at an indoor war and you see me aiming it at you, you better duck.
