I really don't think that Nerf is a very healthy addiction but I intend to stick around a bit longer.
Really? You don't think so? It's one heck of a lot better than most of the addictions out there. I gives you an excuse to exercise, forces you to use your brain in practical ways, and leaves you with a feeling of satisfaction.
It is a veryhealthy addiction IMO.
On topic, I hope to be nerfing for as long as my health permits. I also hope I can be like oompa and Piney, by passing nerf onto my children.
FA_24's response to Ice's back pain thread:
I used to have that problem until I got circumcised. 15 pounds later I was able to stand up straight.

I know its changed alot. Hell, its even changed while I've been here. Certainly not to the degree of the seasoned members like yourself and Groove, however, it has a fairly consistent background and goal. Have fun. What? You've been here all of a year and you consider this hobby to be "constant"? This hobby has changed a great deal in just the past 2-3 years. As a select few can tell you it's different from what it was 6 years ago. And further back than that, this site didn't even exist and the hobby was pretty damn tiny.Life in unpredictable, but Nerf is constant.
This hobby will keep changing over time with few core elements remaining. It's going to live or die by the people participating in it (or avoiding ACTUALLY participating because they don't do anything except post excuses online for why they don't make it to wars).

That said, I thought I was done with nerfing after I quit in early high school, and only picked it up again after my girlfriend and I grabbed some nitefinders about 3 1/2 years ago, when I was in my senior year. For me, even though my old favorites like the splitfire were long gone, part of the fun was discovering the new guns, both the good and the bad. Because I don't care about modding, many of the new guns out there, though weak compared to the old ones, have some real benefits, such as the excellent rate of fire on many of the n-strike guns. So, in conclusion, while slug is right in that conditions, such as playgroups, may change, at least for me, so long as there's somebody who wants to shoot me, i'll probably have a good time, and that's really all that matters at the end of the day.

checks to make sure
Yep, still having fun.
I hope to introduce my daughter to Nerfing as well (she's going on 8)...she's already pretty fascinated by my blasters, and like to help me build...but she's not quite up to getting shot by a well-modded gun. We'll see if and when that ever happens.

That almost made me cry. No joke.
Anyway it seems everyone has good points for what they plan on doing but let me just add this.
I take part in a strings orchestra at my middle school. Our teacher was talking about buying a new intrument and stuff and he brought up something that really made me think. "Do you think your instrument will be around 10 years after your death or even more?" and while I'm typing the question still makes me curious for us nerfers. "How long do you think your guns will be around?" Again a weird thought I know but I've seen people with splitfires, ball blasters, crossbows, and many rather old guns in the 3 or less months I've been here. It's kind of cool to think about where it's been and whats going to happen afterward.

You're absolutely right, because things like snorting crack and BASE jumping are much more healthy.I really don't think that Nerf is a very healthy addiction but I intend to stick around a bit longer.
Really, you can't set forth a date for this kind of stuff, of when you're going to quit. The hobby has changed so drastically within the past 5 years and the community has expanded immensely as well. 7 years ago people on NerfOnline were mainly just conjecturing and talking about Nerf, and a majority of the wars being advertised and discussed were West Coast wars. If you look at the Nerf War Schedule now, it's exploded and we've had almost 50 organized wars in 2008 alone across the span of North America.
To everyone that thinks they'll be "quitting" in a year or so, you'll be back...I've seen it happen all the time. As Slug said, life is rather unexpected; things rarely ever go according to plan, so, plan accordingly. I'm only 23 and I'll be doing this as long as possible. I like to think my Guru will still be around even after I'm gone, too.

If you are on the Haven and you don't agree with Groove's post, please direct yourself to the nearest Nerf War and have some fun. You will change your mind.Really, you can't set forth a date for this kind of stuff, of when you're going to quit. As I said earlier: Everyone wants a good life with NERF and nerfing incorporated at least somewhat.

Ompa is about 20 years old. I don't think he has children.

Exact same idea when I read the topic...Meh... I want to nerf for a long time, but I don't want to be that creepy 70 year old who shows up at Massacre: "Is that Angel in his mask?"
"Yeah!... oh wait... no...it's some old guy."
except I pictured someone in a wheelchair...holding an NF with someone pushing him around...
THAT'D BE HARDCORE NERFING
Anyways, even though I am new to this community and young myself...
I'd like to nerf as long as possible, and I do agree with what CaptainSlug said, because life is unpredictable.
You could catch a disease or get injured permanently...I don't know. You just don't know what can go wrong.
EDIT:
I read this too fast:
And thought I saw this:I fully intend to introduce my kids to the hobby, and then to be able to play with them if they enjoy it.
I fully intend to introduce my kids to the hobby, and then force them to play it if they enjoy it.
