I am going to do a science project for my school that will test to see which type of spring (copper, steel, etc.) will make a tagger dart shoot farthest from a nerf nightfinder.

I am not going to test the same thing on a recon or longshot. i dont have the money.

I will post results when I finish the tests. If you want to test it on a recon or something go ahead but post it here for sake of getting the word out.

Any spring replacement can be found easily by way of the search button, however, just searching "spring replacement" is bound to bog you down with about 500 results for other guns.

Alot of people (myself included) have gotten great results using an ACE #49 spring. Others still have good results using a certain Handyman spring. All you should do is take your stock spring to a hardware store and just compare. Try to find something that is about the same size, just slightly harder to push down.

On, and while you are there, look for smaller springs for the catch. You will need to reinforce the catch.

Also, you can try to find other springs on McMaster Carr. They are an online retailer with a crazy large selection on anything hardware/project oriented. You can get VERY strong springs from them.

You will find that your choices of material for coil springs are likely to be only steel and stainless. For most applications, nothing else will be available or as cost effective.

What makes a bigger difference than the material is the thickness and length of the spring. If aluminum has any advantage over steel, it would be impossible to measure since steel is denser, so more aluminum would have to be used to make up for it. At that point, you could just add a little more and make it stronger. Even if you manage to get two springs of different materials that have the exact length and spring rate, the only factor would be how fast they un-compress. I think it would be more worthwhile to experiment what effects different spring rates have and talk about the law of diminishing return.

I strongly recommend that you use correct grammar. People get banned if they don't.

Anyhoo, how do you plan to remove all other variables? In a scientific experiment, there can only be one manipulated variable.

I just asked my teacher for ways to remove the varibles an he said we aren't allowed to do weapon based projects. I know its not a weapon but he said that it's to close
