I am posting this to ask if anyone has any solutions to getting out those annoying screws that just wont come out, they are not stripped or anything like that, and I do have the strength to loosen them them so don't both with that.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had the same problem. I am trying to unscrew a NF but just can't get 4 of the screws out and it's never happened to me before.

And so help me if i get one smart ass who post "are you turning the screw the right way" there will be serious pain suffering.

Be sure to turn the screw to the left.

Anyway, I didn't quite understand your reasoning for not wanting to just turn them as hard as you can.

Get a cheap, worn, screwdriver that you don't use, and superglue it to the screw, and twist. If you don't have any un-needed screwdriver, just use a new one, then when your done put it in HOT water. Then you just take it off with your hand's.

Nice one good idea besides the fact that that idea is completely stupid FIRECRACKERS ARE ILLEGAL IN AUSTRALIA.

So if anyone has any actually useful ideas then please post them.

I have cheap screwdrivers, my better ones aren't small enough.

Grab a pair of pliers, something that can grip the shaft of your screwdrivers. Insert and position the screwdriver, and press firmly on the bottom of it with your palm. Other hand grabs the pliers, and twisting to break the screw from it's position.

I've found, probably like most, that your screws often have a little bit of plastic debris at the end. I don't know if they fuse it or slightly glue it in there or what, but this trick has worked for me on all manner of tough screws. Doesn't work for everything, but well enough that I don't need to worry much.

Good advice. I think you meant to say

press firmly on the top of it with your palm.

I don't get my kicks out of you,
I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,
After what we had,
But I’m just not the angel you knew.

Depends on how you look at it, I suppose. Regardless, as long as understanding is conveyed.

Dremel or saw around the screw.

More leverage. Longer pliers may help. Otherwise, you can slip a hollow pipe over the pliers to extend the grip (you would probably need to jury-rig something, though). Is your screwdriver spinning at all? You want to be sure it doesn't cam out of the head of the screw, stripping it in the process.

Here's an off-beat idea - throw the gun in the refrigerator for an hour. The plastic and metal will shrink a bit, which may help in loosening the screw.

There's a lot of good advice in this thread already. Superglue a cheap screwdriver in there, wait for it to thoroughly dry, then get that sucker out of there. Firecracker would work - but you can't get one it seems. Dremel or drilling works. On several casings, including Nerf guns, I've eventually just brute-forced it open, prying it apart until the screw support snaps. Or you could go the more finessed way and get a razor saw between the shell halves and saw the screw support that way. The real solution to all this is good tools, I've been meaning to get a ratchet/screwdriver set that can access smaller holes.

Of course, with as much work as I imagine you may have done, I think you could have stripped a screw. Is it at all possible you've been using a poorly sized screwdriver? Also, what kind of gun is this and where is the screw?

And by the way, the Haven seems to be kind to you, no one has yet called you on not searching. Screw problems are nothing new, of course. Here's a few of the more recent threads.

I used to have problems unscrewing screws, but then I figured out that it was the screwdrivers problem. I had the same kind that Forsaken_angel24 has, but then I got one with a better grip and haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps.

BarreyAllen - Yes i no no one has pulled me up on not searching however every time i try to search for anything screw related it times out and YES I know how to use the search feature. I will try a few more things.

No the screwdriver is not poorly sized as it works for every other screw in the gun.

The gun is NF ex 3 and it is the central screw under the barrel between it and the light, and i also can't get on off on the handle. So the saw will not work in the central one however i will try it on the other screw in the handle.

The reason i posted about smart asses if that it seems alot of them seem to appear and post those kind of stupid posts and as i was frustrated as hell i didn't want those people appearing in this thread.

So I will try the other ideas,
For some reason i like Daniel Beaver idea of in the fridge so ill give that ago.

Also i understand that NF are cheap and i could go and by another one for like 8 bucks but its the principal and there isn't a single toy left in any toy stores at the moment let alone a nerf gun.

Thanks all,
Peace

Wow. If you had said you were in Australia, I wouldn't have posted that. If not for that kink in the hose called the legal system, you could do that. I was just trying to be helpful, jeez. But then again, it shatters the screw post, eliminating any future problems with that screw.Or use a dremel and an engraving bit to remove the screw head, forgot I had a dremel. :D

Here's a thought, cut up your gun. Do a minimization mod on it, there are many on the haven of course. Cut that screw right outta there in that mod. Shouldn't be too hard. That might just be the easiest solution to the problem, especially if you don't care about all the extraneous cosmetics.

Another approach to this problem, is to simply check where the screw hole is, flip the gun over, and mark where it would be on the other side. Then just drill into the screw post. Make sure to use a bit that is about the same size as the screw hole.

The plastic shifted and it came out with no excessive force at all.

Thanks lads

Good job.

It's funny, I'm watching Family Guy, and Stewie is doing his thing, and I'm reading your post. A little surreal.

Anyway, this gives me an idea for a misc tips and tricks thread. Hint hint to someone more experienced. Screws would obviously be a big topic. Glad to hear this method worked for you.

It's OK, you were probably thinking of an M-80, a firecracker that can take your hand off. I meant the tiny ones thaat come in a long chain and sound like a machinegun when used. It will only break the plastic around the screw. Should have edited my post.
