Whilst sifting through the newer games that my local Game Stop has to offer, I noticed something beautiful hiding under the shelf behind the counter, it was one of the Clear Mavericks. According to the manager, somebody had wandered in and bought the Nerf N-Strike game for the Wii and didn't want the Maverick. I immediately began negotiations with the manager, an hour later it was mine. The cost? A Five Dollar Footlong. No Lie.

My question to you is, "Should I mod this thing of beauty?".

I haven't had a stock Maverick in my hands for quite some time and the first thing that begs for correction is that little plastic nub that keeps the cylinder from popping out fully...

eventhough it looks totally sick, it still is a mav and will get the same ranges. I just bought one on ebay and i intend to keep mine in the box and pristine. I'm speculating that they will accumulate value in the future because of their limited availability. Stock guns almost always sell for more then routinely modded guns. I say no, but its up to you.

NO!!!!! Those were limited edition, sell it later for a good profit, though that is just my 2 cents.

Overall it's up to you. Don't do anything extreme if you mod it, just the basic mav mods and definitly DON'T PAINT IT!!!

Shiny... Ye gods I wish I had one.

I'd recommend doing the basic mav mods: Air restrictor removal, penny mod, Possibly Russian Roulette if you can do it while still leaving the shell pristine looking. My own Maverick's cylinder support is a little scarred from my inexperienced dremeling.

Don't mod it. The only reason I wanted to have it was to have it. If you want a modded mav that looks good, use a normal maverick and paint it. Now it will get terrible ranges, after modding, it still wont be that great and you will have ruined the stock value. Most promotional, limited edtion, rare or special items lose value after some on has opened, used, modded, broke, ripped, smashed, and/or burned it.

It's not all about money though. Toys are only as good as the fun you can have with them. If you have fun looking at toys, then leave it NIB. If you like to play with toys, mod it. I personally like to play with toys, so I opened my mav as soon as I got out of the store. I kept the box, but I still play with the blaster.

We could easily all get screwed on the speculation angle.

Notice that nothing anywhere on the package says "special" or "limited" or even "Gamestop"

Interesting, I honestly never thought of it that way. Well, I actually did, but the rest of the forum didn't. Notice that there is nothing official ANYWHERE that says it is limited edition.

It's entirely possible that gamestop simply was allowed to sell them in a promo before in stores.

The managers at gamestop say that any crystal mavs would be sent back to hasbro. Why the bell would they be doing that? They probably don't plan on selling them on ebay. They could have made a profit pretty easily by just leaving them in stores. If they wanted people to try to get them, then why didn't they make it public that this was a one-time deal?

I'm really sorry to speculate, I really am, but all this points to it just being a preview at gamestop, rather than an exclusive one time release.

Either way its all good.....
Keep it as an investment on the hope that it will remain a limited release.......hence reap some nice profit down the road or keep it to boast your own collection.
Or mod it and bring out a little better performance and have a sweet piece to show others at war's and such. When I first saw it all I could think about was the possibilities of reverse painting it which could possibly produce results that can't be obtained with any other opaque shelled gun.
Just some ideas on another interesting release......Mod

I was thinking the same thing. One could also do some awesome tron lines with EL wire.

I like that idea. You may not get money for it modded on ebay, but you could probably do some heavy modding and get an ass load of cash for it at a war. If you break it I will be happy to buy what there is of it left.

with the slow decline of the output and range of newer nerf guns maybe someday the maverick might be considered a good gun.... then a clear one would be extremely valuable.

I would go with not modding the maverick.

1. If you wanted to mod a maverick, just go and buy a blue one or a yellow one.

2. It's not like you can just go and buy one of these any day; they are special and should be taken care of.

3. And lastly, you are pretty damn lucky to have one of those things.

I highly doubt it took a whole hour to negotiate a sub for the maverick.

I don't understand why everyone is making a huge deal over this gun. Its just a maverick that has a see through shell, I saw about 12 of these for 8.50 at my local game stop when I was looking for some N64 games. I personally would keep it in the box because people are making a huge deal over these and would pay a good amount of money for them.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with money. Even if this thing does get to be worth a good bit of money, it won't be worth more than like...$50 at most. The Demo-man AC-MAG sold for $70, and it was the only one badger had ever seen, and he was a huge collector. This blaster is just a maverick.

I have'nt been very active in the last 6 months due to other things in life, but what really are these things? The first I have ever seen of one is that picture Just Some Bob posted. I have never seen one in a store... when were these things released, if they were ever released at all?

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

I was going to say, if TC is so afraid of modding it, just give it to FA, I know he wants one.

I agree with the others it would be much better to keep in the box and not to sell later but just to have.

However imagine the things you could do with a couple of Led's. Could become a show piece if it was done right.

Frankly, I think it depends entirely on what you get out of nerf the most. Do you get more enjoyment and fulfillment out of modification, playing, or collecting?

If you have more fun modding, go buy a colored one and have at it, and keep this one just as it is.

If you actually go outside and play, I see this as a golden opportunity for the most kickass maverick paintjob ever.

Think about it. Paint the INSIDE of the shell whatever color you want, and you have an instantaneously invincible paintjob. You could chuck the gun at a brick wall and the color would be perfect, minus the scratches to the outer shell. All sorts of things are possible with clear shells.

But it's up to you. Have fun with whatever you wind up doing.

You guys are forgetting that if you paint the inside, you can’t paint where the internal supports are, or at least it would make the gun look weird.

Just a friendly word of warning, the plastic of these clear variants is much softer than that of their colored brethren. While trying to open the cylinder up to remove the ARs, I noticed white stress lines beginning to form at the tip of the cylinder. Prying is a no go, use a punch and a hammer and slowly and softly hammer the pin out to open the cylinder.
