Hey,
I was thinking of some ideas for dart designs and i had the idea for a tracer dart. Wouldnt be sweet to have night battle and have rounds that could light up the sky. My idea is to dip and soak darts in a flamable material like paint thinner, then attach a lighter on the end of the gun, and then fireing the dart to then have it be a bright streaking dart in the sky. If any one has any ideas that would make it better just post them up.

Don't play around with fire. Seriously.

If you want darts to be visible at night, either get a firefly or rig up a system that does a similar thing.

That would probably melt the dart, and your gun.

...

So you want to have a night war in which you set the dart on fire as you shoot it at other people. Bad idea. NO. Just no. The flam could travel up the barrel and seriously burn you. There are so many other problems with this.

If you used a turret gun, and soaked the darts with gasoline, I would laugh my ass off at the burning ring of darts. Kind of reminds me of a certain song by a certain Man in Black.

All in all, your idea is useless and dangerous. Try making some glow-in-the-dark Stefans.

My advice would be to stop posting in this thread and quit being a dirty noob *coughsilentsnipecough*.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A good nerf gun is like a good woman. It shouldn't require extra lubrication.

OH BOY! VAPORIZED GASOLINE AND FIRE!!!! WOOHOOOO!!!!!!

I'm sort or a pyrotechnic. I'll tell you right now that is a very, very bad idea. Gas and other flamable liquids become explosive when in a vapor form. You're also suggesting that the flamables be stored inside the dart, which just screams MINI RPG to me.

I suppourt the firefly method. They're pretty cool in a large room.

Loose the idea, keep your digits.

Sounds good to me.

Might I ask how he would be dismembered and decapitated? He may catch fire, or maybe a few fingers will be lost, but fire holds no relation to a spinning saw blade.

Dead, those glow in the dark stefans are sick!

On topic: I don't know if this helps but, if you want a glow in the dark gun, there is glow in the dark spray paint out there! I was thinking of using it sometime soon.

Here I come, into this thread. Thinking he'll be asking HOW... or maybe asking if he should use some glow in the dark paint... but no. He's suggesting SETTING HIS DARTS ON FIRE.

I clicked on this topic thinking someone would be posting the idiotic idea of putting a AAA battery into a stefan along with a LED. I didn't think anyone could come up with an even more ridiculous idea.

I've done it. My friend and I were filming a movie involving nerf guns, and we had a seen with fire in it, so we lit some crappy darts on fire and shot them. The foam melts really fast when covered in lighter fluid, and when they melt, they don't fly well. also, the flames go out in less then 8 feet shot from a diskshot because of the air.
Basically, I've tried it and it sucks.

We'll maybe if it was really bad fluid it would blow his balls- never mind. I like to think gory.

As do I, but I also try to think realistic. What kind of gun/dart placement would be needed to result in explosive castration?

Actually, don't answer that, I really don't want to know.

Not to add fuel to the fire (pun intended, and not - isn't life duplicitous?), but how come no one mentions fire damage to the surroundings? Like, forest fires? Burning buildings? Smoldering furniture?

But, yeah, fire is bad for toys. Fire is even worse when you combine toy guns. Even in the best of circumstances, fire is difficult to control by "experts" in the field...

Because, noone care's if they're house lights on fire, or if they cause a forest fire. They just care when they break a gun from lighting on fire. Duh.

Well, if you really want to see what happens to the styrafoam darts when you get it on fire, use a lighter. I did. I suggest you be extremely careful, and can put out that fire on the dart, as well as your hand. You're gonna need that.

When I clicked this topic, I new it would be something stupid, but I had a little hope in the back of my mind that someone had made stefans using small watch batteries as weights, and the batteries were hooked up to small LED's in the backs of the stefans. Sure it would be expensive, impractical, and a time-intensive pain in the ass, but it would be fucking cool.

Only within a specific mixture range. It's actually kind of hard to get the right ratio of fuel to air to achieve an explosion. Soaking a dart in a flammable liquid will probably end up well above the proper concentration.

Honestly, that was my first thought when I read that he actually wanted to use burning darts. Nothing like incendiary ammunition in a kid's toy.

That would be freaking awesome but way to costly. Maybe some glow-stick type setup would work. Maybe a mini one shoved into a dart, or a dart coated in the chemicals.

Throwies! Use a miniature 1.5V watch battery, a Joule Thief circuit, and an LED! It would all fit in the back of a stock dart.

Awww, nuts. AssassinNF beat me to it.
