Well, with the dead winter months upon us and me without a job I've started to mull through some of the various guns that I've collected over the past year and start to think about how to mod them. The 3 guns that I'm looking to mod are the Crossbow (us Horsemen's trademark), the Maxshot, and the EAB. I'd like them all to shoot mini's and I'd ideally like to use maybe an 8" barrel with a 1.5" nested piece on the bottom.
Have you guys found breech loading to give you better range than muzzle loading? Also, does anyone think I could shorten the barrel lengths without losing range if I add those holes (forget the exact name, milling?) to the barrel end to reduce spin out?
I'll probably just go about doing my own thing anyways but was interested to hear what some of you have to say.

Its called porting, to be honest, I've never tested it. My Max-Shot is breech loading, a 7/16" stub of brass with a coupler, 9/16" in PVC. A breech max-shot beats a muzzle/ramrod any day.

Well I use the suction created to bring the dart to the back of my brassed Xbow.. Put the dart in, then cock it. It loses maybe 5 feet from breeching. 14" barrel, 9/16 brass with a 2" 17/32 insert at the back.

Well the day has come. After all the shit you throw around about breech loading. I've made nested brass on alot of my guns just for shits and giggles, and it works well. For the Maxshot I would use breech. Ebay, muzzle. Crossbow...either. I think when it comes to how well the gun will perform with each, it's realative. Of course you know most of my guns are mega shooting, but I've made brass barrels. Good luck.

Breech loading is the only effective way I've found to make use of the constriction at the base of the barrel. Ideally, with reasonably powerful spring guns (EaB perhaps excluded here), that constriction should be quite tight. To get the dart all the way into this constriction you generally need to twist it in.
As for the EaB, you're talking about my favorite spring gun here and I've done a whole lot of experimentation with it. Given a spring upgrade, my favorite barrel is a muzzle loading not-too-tight 12-14" of brass. A tight constriction will cause this gun to hang-fire because the air delivery is super fast but rather weak. The long barrel gets the most of this unusual power plant and is mostly internal anyhow. To load I just drop the dart in and aim high while cocking.
