Come Hither and Tither all CAP cadets... senior members... I do not really care... However, more people here need to CAP... but hey... I'm just trying to spread CAP awareness...

Ahh, Civil Air Patrol. I was intrested in that about 2 months ago but I didn't know what it was really like.

A little backround information...
I'm intrested in Aviation and the Air Force would be a great place to start. During college I want to do the elective course Air Force ROTC, then join as either a B-1B Lancer Bomber Pilot or a C-130 or C-17 Cargo Pilot.
Do you know stuff about the Air Force? Probably more than me... Anyway...

-What do you do in CAP?
-Do they teach you to fly planes?
-Will you actually get to fly planes in person?
-What are the age requirements to fly?

Thanks in Advance...

We do aerospace ed. , Disaster relief, and the cadet program. Yes, you actually DO get to fly a plane, about once every two months if you attend the O-flights, that is...
They will teach you, and you can then get your pilot's lisence for cheaper. Also, CAP membership looks good on Air force application forms. Yum.
You have to be 16 to get a pilot's lisence.

Thanks Pal, I'll have to look into it at my local airport Brackett (KPOC).
Oh, and one more thing... how expensive is it?

I was involved with the USNSCC when I was younger. They are a Navy-centered youth group. We didn't get along with CAP, and from my experience in boot camp, neither did anyone from any NSCC unit. I don't know why, but there was some serious animosity towards the CAP. I think it was because CAP was perceived as far less structured than we were. Whatever. The Civil Air Patrol still does good for the community and such. I just have absolutely no interest in general aviation.

Well, It may have something to do with the difference in interests.
Both groups follow a similar chain of command, so I see the structure as being fantastic. However, I cannot say it was "fantastically" structured in the past as it is now.

As for the cost, I believe the annual membership has now hiked up to 35 dollars, RedHead.

My friend and his sister are both in CAP. I think he is a cadet, not sure about his sister.
