So I bought my second gen Recon (the one with the ARMED cover) about a month before I applied for an account here. I actually found this site when I searched how to make it better. I had already done the AR removal, which proves how much it sucks. I saw the CPVC housed springs in the stock. It was great, but I had neither the time, materials, or incentive to try it. The point I've been trying to get to is that after the recall thing, I like it alot more. Since I had called customer service a few times (stores sold guns missing parts), they sent me two (extended) ARMED covers. I remembered those threads, and slipped two assorted springs I had lying around. My Recon gets an average range of 60 feet using Streamlines (with no dart spinning) and 65 feet (after said Streamlines had spun a little). Basically it is now an NF with higher ROF. Anyway, just thought I would report my success. If you still can, call Hasbro and get those covers. That is all.

EDIT: *sigh* Since I seemed to forget that all of you hate "angled" ranges and decided to have it go without saying, here it is:

Setting: On my farm

Time: 3:00 PM

Outside Temp.: 63 Degrees Fahrenheit

Wind: None to Negligible

Setup: Two (2) x 50' Tape Measures

Darts Used: Streamlines

Distance:

62'
64'
67'
60'
65'
66'

Total: 384'
Average:64'

Lawn is Med/Short Grass with no Dart Skip.

I estimated the last 5' or so of flight was dart spin.

Thanks.

Measure those ranges flat, and along an actual measure, and we'll believe you.

Actually, I just had a nerf-tastic idea.

To make ranges more believable (when outrageous speculation and flaming siezes control), I believe it would help to post a video on the 'tube, taking time to explain your setup (measuring tape, setting, ect.), and then fire off several shots, excuse me... FLAT!... then walking over to where the shots landed, taking measure (on camera) for each one.

I realize how complicated this extensive system would be, but when crap-talk and lying pursues, I think this Idea would be necessary.

I could see those ranges happening. He seems belaiveable, and not like those idiots that go "lol, i jst gots 70 out of me recon, it doesnt sucks". When I finish my my recon I will do this with 2 springs and see what range I get.Questions to horus: Is this the only mod done to this gun? Was this a mostly level surface? Can you measure or take pictures of the springs? And finally can you do this test a lot more with different darts?

I'm not doubting that you've achieved these ranges, I would just sleep better at night knowing there is proof on Youtube somewhere of these incredible ranges. (For a Recon)

I lubed it again and again, I don't see what an extra 2 centimeters does. I don't think I will cut it off.

You guys don't seem to understand that a video can be just as deceiving as regular text. A dart can easily be planted. I've sat down once and actually thought for an hour for a way to make a video that had to show true ranges, but each time I found a loophole in the method. The only way to be completely certain is to actually be there yourself. The closest thing I've seen to a video with no possible loopholes was Angel's "gift" video, as the incoming dart was clearly visible coming towards the camera. However there will always be loopholes. A flying dart could have been bluescreened in. The dart could have been animated in, as all you'd need to draw would be a grey speck. Now I'm not saying that all range tests videos are bullshit, because actually there are very few that are fake. I don't doubt that the example I used was real. I'm just pointing out that making someone post a video of a gun getting questionable ranges does not prove a thing.

Do you honestly believe that anyone would go to that much trouble to make it look like a toy gun shoots farther than it actually does? Seriously, put this in perspective. We're talking about NERF guns.

Really? The internet published shot ranges of (someone else') modified toys doesn't even BEGIN to affect my sleeping habits. How about we all just vow not to be douche-nozzles, and post accurate ranges? I mean, come on. I don't have any more respect for a person who gets ten more feet out of a particular combination, than everyone else. Especially when said claims are not accompanied by a write up.

All I was asking for was flat ranges. In his original post he didn't mention if they were flat or angled, so I figured that they were angled (which would definitely not be unreasonable), and asked for flat ranges for comparison. I'm glad you got results that you like. There are a lot of people that are like "aww crap, I must suck, I can't get 100 feet from a NF like PN can :D".

I love it when people read. I was talking about Angel's video when I was referring to bluescreening and animating, because with the set up he used, those are the only two loopholes. And I applaud him for that, because as you said, not many people will go to all that trouble to make a fake video with that set up. Kudos to him for thinking it up. But, if you make range test videos like most people do, dart plants are really simple. It takes what, a minute to walk there, 10 seconds to plant the darts, and a minute to walk back. Yeah that's real hard.

To answer most questions:

) I am in California visiting my grandparents now and do not have my arsenal with me, therefore cannot post videos or pictures. I will try to get pictures at least when I get home this weekend.

) This was a practically perfect surface. Given that the earth is not perfect, it's not accurate to say it was perfectly flat, but it was close to it.

) This Recon has AR's removed and I cut the piece of the bolt-sled that comes in contact with the dart tooth down so the dart tooth would push the streamlines in further. I got the idea from someone on here (sorry I can't remember your name).

)I don't use Stefans. At all. But i can remove the dart tooth and try it with Taggers and Sonics if you guys want.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I am surprised no one has looked to The closet to his mod for ranges and an air restictor thread for ranges. Those coupled together should give at least 60

By "spinning" do you mean rifling? Because I don't know how you could get better ranges with a dart "spinning". If by "spinning" you mean fishtailing, then wtf. Please explain.

No. It is a well known and discussed fact around here that rifling in Nerf is unwieldy and impractical. When you use Streamline Micros in, say, anything more powerful than a stock Firefly, the darts prove to be too light to sustain correct flight, and the end of the projectile tries to catch up to the front of said projectile, causing it to spin out of control, thus, "Dart Spin". Sorry for any confusion, as I most likely used the wrong term. This case is easily demonstrated in, say, a Longshot with AR's removed and a more powerful spring. I hope that helped.

@Loki: Thanks for providing the links / backup. The first one is where I got the idea for this.

Thank you all for your inquiries. I'm happy to answer anymore questions.

Would you be able to reinforce the stock since it is very flimsy?

How is it very flimsy? Last time I checked, you don't use a stock as anything more than a rest for your shoulder. I mean, If you do polevaulting using your shoulder and a recon with a stock, then by all means, find a way to reinforce it, but I've never had a problem with it...
