I just stumbled upon 50 dollars, wich is enough to purchase the vulcan, but I am wondering if it will really be worth it (as in modding capability, and stock performance).
Please respond, because I just dropped 20 bucks for the Auto Tommy 20 a month ago and it sucked. Hard.

Yeah... but the 3 dps firing rate is a bit slow for me... If it is possible to make it faster, I would really like to know.It is a good gun for indoor wars and HvZ. Our group has 3 and they rule in the church for defense and close range offense.

If you want something more worthy for a war, you might want to get a longshot instead. You can reload those faster, and they're more powerful.
The point is, if you want a vulcan, buy it, but think about the alternatives first.

If you came into $50 and you feel you have to spend it on Nerf get something that actually is practical in a Nerf war. Well I shouldn't say that for all Nerf wars. Even indoors a rf20 with a drop clip could easily out perform a vulcan.
Bottom line: Whatever your nerfing needs are, the vulcan will always come up short.
I lubed it again and again, I don't see what an extra 2 centimeters does. I don't think I will cut it off.

I would argue that an UNmodded Longshot is not significantly more powerful than a Vulcan using manual fire mode. Lighter, though, and cheaper, too. But it can only reload faster if one carries more than four clips - which is just about enough to kill the price difference. If you want something more worthy for a war, you might want to get a longshot instead. You can reload those faster, and they're more powerful.
That is true, but I really meant that if you need to reload an empty clip or belt, that the clip is way easier to refill than a vulcan belt. That, and that it's easier to replace a clip than a belt, because improper or hurried placement of the belt will cause a jam.

Still I recomend getting a vulcan- just make sure you have more than two belts. At EGNO, bob had to pull out like four of em' for me.
I sure wish we could buy ammo boxes separately too. Maybe some day. Having each team member carry one loaded box in a dollar store shoulder bag seemed like it should work out pretty well. Provided your team has someone fool enough to play Heavy Weapons Guy (maniacal laugh optional)
At SJNO, I will be your personal heavy weapons guy. Not sure I can do the russian accent though.Have redmark be the scout . But you sir, have to be an engineer.

Whoa. A Tommy 20?
If you were a regular lurker at the Haven, you'd know that many of us are not really big on the Tommy20. Perhaps some are, but it never really inspired me to buy one.
I STILL haven't picked up a Vulcan, mainly because I don't have ready access to one (I only travel to the city four times a year, and all four times Wal*Mart and Toys R Us didn't have them on the shelves), but it looks like Vulcans are the present of choice for my son this Christmas.
The first reason for purchasing a Vulcan, modding capability, is really up to you. It seems like the ones who modify their Vulcans have either extensive experience modifying blasters, or they're just really determined to try to get the best performance off their Vulcan.
Seems like all the guys who have stock ones are happy with how they are. Really does depend on what you're looking for. Granted, they won't stack up against an AT2k modified in terms of range, or a Magstrike or RF20 for sheer firepower, but for what it is... a cool looking full-auto, belt-fed, tripoded machine gun, it sure looks like a truckload of fun!
We only have one full-auto blaster (Magstrike), but I leave that stock; I don't want to mess it up with a sloppy mod, I don't have much time anymore to modify blasters like I did years ago, and besides, my son loves it exactly the way it is. Same for my nephew's RF20.
I don't plan on modding any Vulcans I purchase (looks like 4 also), just put batteries in them and shoot them up. In fact, I'm not modding any more until I finish putting back together the two first-gen Recons I modified with PVC spring housings. That was months ago, still apart.

Yeah. When I was stalking around, waiting for validation on this site, I noticed the heavy shunnage on the Tommy Twenty. But that was before I saw the AUTO tommy twenty at Target. I thought that with my experience in electronics and circuitry, I could make it into a half-bullpup system.
But when the single most importatnt part of the gun- the drum-advancement gear- burnt out, It finally dawned on me... the supreme suckage of the Tommy series.
Thus, the end of my tommy discovery.

I've got way too much on my to-do list with guns to put the Vulcan high on my priorities, but the electricity and power mods seemed most attractive to me.
Stock, it seems perfectly suited for office wars. I bought an extra chain and I'm good with that much ammo. I've got plenty of backup sidearms to satisfy my need for range, or running out of chain ammo.
Got mine for $35 at Walmart.

If you were willing to spend enough time on an ammo box / tripod, you could easily turn a vulcan into a CTF base defense turret. That's what I'm working on.
Probably dead by now, or something.
