Would an admin lock this topic please?

The picrure of the Xbow was in an ad titled "classic Christmas" as Nerfer9 stated. The ad also included scenes from the movie "A Christmas story" and a few of outdated train sets.

It is foolish to believe that ETRL would make a Xbow, just because it is a 14 year old classic (yep, exactly as classic as me). All this was is a picture of a child enjoying his Xbow many years ago after unwrapping his gifts.

We really need something real to speculate about.....

First of all, there is no reason to lock this topic.

Secondly, this does not look photoshopped.

Lastly, if it is just a display by the manufacturer, why does it say "In stores only November 9 - December 24"?

I watched the classic Christmas video in order to hopefully learn something about this. It did show some kids shooting at similar targets with current ERTL guns, like the RFS. I couldn't see exactly what all the kids were using, but there were several of them, and I wouldn't doubt that one of them was using this guns considering the similar setting. I don't think the idea of ERTL replicating a gun like the Xbow is completely ludicrous. Considering ERTL's mission is to produce semi-true to life hunting weapons, the Xbow seams like a very likely candidate to produce.

I'm going to agree with Rover here and assume that they used it for stock photo purposes. Until we hear anything otherwise, this is all just hearsay. Until anyone gets more facts or evidence, please refrain from having a nerdgasm all over this thread or express your overwhelming desire to have sex with a pile of Crossbows (that's fancy talk for stop posting "omg" reactions).

Guys, I've got more solid info. The picture relates to something in their "Classic Christmas" promotion. They're going to turn a section of their stores into a christmas wonderland of magic and fun. Sounds cool right? Well the picture of the crossbow relates to something called the "Soft Gun Arcade" as seen on this page: http://www.basspro.c...=free_games.cfm Before someone says that this means "OMG they said 'newest toys so that means it's real yay'", take a moment to look at the other pictures: a still from "A Christmas Story", a kid playing with a dated toy train, and a 60's looking girl writing letters to santa. It can then be deduced that these pictures tie back to the "classic Christmas" theme. So in essence, the picture is the ghost of Christmas past.
Bah Humbug.

EDIT: I found a picture of the "Soft gun Arcade" http://media.basspro...2008/72/008.jpg
it's just the shitty green crossbow they already sell.

EDIT PT 2: As if I haven't shit on your dreams enough, here's the full line up of "shooting toys" they're going to be selling this christmas: http://www.basspro.c..._-shooting_toys
No crossbows there besides the NXT piece of shit.

I have sent a inquiry to Bass Pro in regards to the ad and will report back with what they tell me in the next day or so.

I decided I wanted to relieve the questions and doubts you've been having. I am currently on the phone with tech support. It is the crossbow, they are having some sort of nerf range target thing. It is Not the Nerf crossbow however, and it is not theirs. It is made by a company called Next Generations, and they are using them for nerf targeting range.

Note, this is not speculation I actually called customer service and the guy told me exactly what I have written, nothing else. I'm pretty sure next generations has never made stuff for nerf. I made it clear that it was the one on the front page.

Point: They aren't re-releasing it. I will not say if Next Generations is, as I cannot find their website. He did not say anything one way or another that they were.

How much more proof do you need

The "next" generation toys you speak of is actually "NXT" generation toys LLC., they make the "foam" shooters for basspro and other outdoors stores. As for my two cents, never is it going to happen in this life or any other that they will re-release anything close to the x-bow, it's just not going to happen period...
