I'm gonna get right to it, no bullshit intro...

Open up the gun and take out the tank. Remove the secret barrel if you wish, I removed it, and then read up on Bags' SS2 mod, and regretted taking it off. I really don't want to deal with putting the rotational spring back in... Anyway, cut off the stock barrel at the part where it telescopes to the smallest diameter.
Posted Image

Sand down the stick, and then drill out the AR. Be very careful when doing so, not to drill through the valve. After getting through the AR, there will be some space before you would potentially hit the valve. As soon as you feel the bit break through, stop drilling. Now look into the hole you just created. If you did it right you should see white plastic.

Next take a 1/2" PVC coupler, and slice off part of one side like so:
Posted Image

With that stab we just cut off, the coupler would sit on the tank like this:
Posted Image

With that cut, you'll have less dead space, and it will sit like this:
Posted Image

Now get some 1/2" thinwall PVC and cut a short piece the same length of the stock barrel stub.
Posted Image

Now E-tape the stock barrel stub until the PVC fits tightly over it. Glue down the PVC.

And glue on the coupler.
Posted Image
As you can see, my PVC was too long, so that piece I cut off the coupler earlier didn't really help, I could of redone it, but gorilla glue is frilla sticky, and I didn't really feel like taking the assembly apart. In short, don't fuck up like me, cut the PVC to the right length.

Now to make way for that coupler. Dremel then sand out the innards of the shell where the coupler will sit. Rinse and repeat until it fits without the shell putting too much force on the coupler, or else it will bend it and make a barrel really hard to insert. I also sanded the outside of the coupler, which is apparent in a later picture.

Some photos of my shell:

And the internals in place... Please not that the screw holding the trigger valve down isn't in place in this picture. Be sure to screw that back on.

Ta-daa! Your done. Simple, yet effective.

Sorry, this is slightly off topic, but NH keeps telling me that my sig is too long when I add anything too it. I always add links to my write ups in my sig, and when I try to add this one it buggers out. What I don't understand is how other peole have such long sigs...

Nice mod, simple and to the point. I personally love SS2's, they're probably one of the most underrated and underused blasters out there.

That may be merely because there are only 12 or so remaining. I've been looking for the last year haven't found more than a couple on Ebay. And all of them go for quite a bit more than what I'm willing to spend. Perhaps I'm just cheap?

Nope, sorry.

Everyone else: Thanks for the compliments. I found this at goodwill for a dollar 50. I guess I'm just a lucky bastard.

I have one of these, I 2k turreted it like Falcon. Other than the crappy ROF due to all the pumps it takes to get any range out of it, I really like it. Mine gets 85-90ft with the turret, so you are probably breaking 100ft.

There are a lot more than just 12. If that was true, I would of never sold my leaky one to Redmark.

Nice mod, makes me wish I had another.

Hyperbole, my boy... Hyperbole. Not to be confused with a hyperbola, which is awesome by itself, but not any use in Nerf.

I just plugged the OP valve about a half hour ago after getting disappointing ranges. Does anyone know the max number of pumps before the tank gets damaged? I think I've read every SS2 thread on this site and I can't find the answer anywhere...

Edit: And the optimal barrel length for the said number of pumps?

That's because there isn't one.
Not only is every blaster different, every pump is different, and it matters how fast you pump and how hard. The only "rule" that has any chance of working at all is the "one less" rule.

You're on your own. Barrel length, too, because that depends on your darts.

Um, hardness and speed of pumping means nothing. Its the number and length of pumps that mean anything.

JSB: Yes, I know all of that. I also never said there was a "rule." All I'm asking is how many pumps other people feel comfortable putting into this blaster. Also, while it definitely depends on ones darts, if one is using darts for an air gun, the darts will have a snug yet loose fit (If they aren't retarded). That said, there definitely is a MARGIN. What you said applies a lot more to springers, but even with springers there is a general margin for barrel length with a particular blaster. I think I'll just PM the guy who made the arachnophobias (can't remember his name at the moment). I remember him having experience with SS2's.

In my experience with SS2's, I'd say around 14 inches for the best. But since its a sidearm size, I'd use 8-9 inches for a barrel.

The max I'd do, is probably 12. It may be different for yours, but I used 10ish pumps mostly.

Thank you, keef. That is exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. Since this gun isn't going to be used as a sidearm, and PETG comes in foot long increments, I'm gonna go with a 12" barrel.
