Hey guys, I noticed that the Mad Hornet is on ebay, and since its semiauto, Id like to come up with a mod for it. Ive never owned one, so what I really want to know is: Can it be opened(screws) and whats the air output (compared to another gun)?
If its anythign like a bf, its gotta be good.

I also noticed that it includes homemade darts, so it might be a guy from here?

All guns can be opened if you have a drill, just drill through the screws if they are those weird triangle type ones.

That wears out drill bits fast though, but if I have to...

It's an older gun, therefore easy as hell to open. The screws are those old big fat ones that are black. As far as I'm aware, that Mad Hornet was the first semi-auto Nerf gun, in that you could fill the tank and it could fire all 6 shots without priming it again. I finally got around to opening mine up before I went back to the dorms, and it's sitting in half in my basement waiting for me to come back and work with it some weekend. The air tank is big, and the air output isn't too shabby at all. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with the pressure however. The rotating mechanism seems like it has a lot of open spaces where air could escape, for instance the most obvious one; holes along the side of the barrels.

I would fancy someone (me, if no one else gets around to it first) making a decent mod for this gun, but I'm not sure if it will ever be a great weapon. Good luck though, report back how it goes.

Before I buy it, I wanna know:

if the rotating mechanism is strong enough to hold cpvc barrels.
if the holes that air could escape can be fixed.
if the guns casing strips easiyl from the screws(like other older guns).
how big is it compared to a bf.

And why dont you think it could ever be a good weapon? Thats what mods are for.

Someone bid on it...The war is on!

1. It depends on the length of your barrels. It is a pretty lightweight rotating mechanism, so I don't think it could handle 6" CPVC barrels. 4", maybe. PETG easily, yes.

2. I'm sure the seal could be fixed, but be careful with it, some of the parts are moving. Covering the holes in the barrels with tape etc is pretty common practice for anyone who has had a Mad Hornet.

3. No, I guarantee that you won't strip any screws or casing while opening this gun. Trust me, it uses the big black screws with large ridges that won't be going anywhere soon.

4. It's about as long as the Blastfire (though the rear half is composed entirely of a giant plastic airtank, as you'll see if you open it.)

5. The reason I don't think you could make it as good as one of your Blastfires (I'm not doubting your skill) is that you don't have as advanced of a gun to work with. For one, it has the strange characteristic of firing in mid rotation, as opposed to how an AT or SM3000 rotates and then fires. There is a lot of air that can be stored in the tank, but I'm not sure how much you could pressurize it. There is probably an overpressurization valve you could block somewhere, but you might have to crack the handle in half or something to get there, as I couldn't find it right away. Also, there is just a -lot- of weak seals.

Anyhow, a lot of these things could be fixed, and should be fixed. As I said, I'd love to see a successful mod for this gun, and if you think you could work with it, go right ahead. I wish you luck.
