I received one of these blasters from Badger at APOC (by the way, thank you) and fell in love with it. There was just some badass aura surrounding it, which may be due in part to the fact that OMC bought it's sibling (though it was sold to Keef not long ago).

I planned a multi-part modification which I have put off since I got back home from the US. Now, I've been hit with the flu and I have nothing better to do with my spare time, so here we go.

You will need:
- A Commlink II
- 6" of PETG (or barrel material of your choice)
- Plumber's Goop
- Glue gun
- Triangle Screwdriver (not sure what it's called)
- A Dremel, though you can make do with a File and Pliers

Obviously, the first step is to open it up. Don't forget about the screw under the back sticker and the one under the battery case:

Here's some pics of the internals:
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Check out the crappy little walkie-talkie in it, useless:
Posted Image
Unscrew the screws holding it down and pull the whole thing out:
Posted Image

Now, here's a pic of the plunger assembly removed:
Posted Image

Here's the plunger rod disassembled:
Posted Image

The spring on it is good, but it isn't all that great by itself, and it isn't long enough for the plunger draw to be increased. I don't have any replacement springs long enough, so I had to use another stock one. The second spring is the one on the bottom:
Posted Image
Both on the plunger rod:
Posted Image

The seal is kind've crappy, but E-Tape solves that:
Posted Image

My next step was to increase the plunger draw, but to do that we must make room for the plunger tube further up in the shell:
Posted Image
Remember to do this on both shell pieces.

Wrap some E-Tape around the stub on the end of the barrel, just enough to fit a new barrel on snug. As you can see I filed out the inside a tad to increase the air output by a small amount:
Posted Image
Posted Image

Cover the Tape and the base of the plunger tube in Goop and fit your 6" barrel of choice *CoughPETGCough* on. Let it dry:
Posted Image

Once the Goop is dried, put a glob of it about 2" from the end of the plunger tube and fit the stock barrel over it. This will give it a nice fit in the shell and will protect most of the PETG. Looks kind've sexy too:
Posted Image

Once everything is dried, fit the entire assembly back into the shell. This is a bitch to do simply because the springs are very long and they compress almost halfway when against the shell. You basically will have to hold the assembly in place as you glue it down:
Posted Image
Glue the shit out of it. I put large amounts of Goop and hot glue on the plunger tube and barrel to hold it in the shell:
Posted Image
Posted Image

Close it back up, I chose not to do a screw replacement, but would recommend doing it:
Posted Image

Ranges were taken in my backyard, flat, with a bungee (red one shown in the picture) and five 1.5" Stefans made with FA's Beige foam and 3/0 fishing weights.

77'
81'
74'
79'
83'

Note that it is Canada in the middle of the Fall season, so things are cooling down quite a bit. If tests were done on the warm, sunny day then they would increase by approximately 5 feet. I also think that since I used two stock Nerf springs, ranges were lacking. I am going to go the hardware store to try and find an industrial spring for the future.

This is an ongoing project, I am working on part two and I will post it when I am done, which will be in the next week or so. I am mainly trying to make this a primary-worthy blaster, so all future upgrades on this will be mainly for an edge on the battlefield.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A good nerf gun is like a good woman. It shouldn't require extra lubrication.

Thats awesome! I never thought these things had any potential at all. Nice to see they do. I would reccomend a screw replacement, because I have NEVER seen a triangle screwdriver before.
Anyway, good work, Please bring this to hell, I want to see it in action.

I got one of these at a Goodwill about 6 months ago. After HOURS of searching for a freakin triangular screw driver I gave up and just hot glued a 4" peice of cpvc into the mega barell. I loaded a streamline into it and fired it and to my amazment it went far. I measured it and it was 63' flat. Im sure with a spring replacement it would of went over a hundred. Ill upload a picture of it in a little while.
Truce.

Nice. One of my friends can't stand people who double spring guns but I think this is really good. Nice job.

Many moons ago, a banded Commlink II shooting stock megas was my primary. Shooting megas (and with enough heavy-duty office bands on it) a Commlink can easily hit sixties. Once I switched over to blowguns, 2ks, and eventually my first crossbow, I was at the point where modding one of mine wasn't worth the time and I never bothered. I've been thinking about the one functional commlink I have left, and I may just have to do something to it now. Of course, I'm a brass addict, but you've given me something to think about. Well done; good work!

With all that space left in the gun, couldn't you integrate something in there?

The entire gun is about 1.5" wide, and it narrows in the radio section. So there isn't really much room for anything in that area.

I would still find a way to integrate an AT2K in there. You can always just away sections for the air chamber, and it looks like the gun is long enough so you could put the pump on the bottom.

Holy shit, y'know I actually think there is still a pair of these things in my basement. Until reading this thread and having a bit of an epiphany regarding their use in a war I've been thinking about for the past couple of weeks I'd though they were about the most useless nerf guns I'd ever seen. Perhaps I was wrong. Thanks for the insight into a formerly terrible weapon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are the springs constantly compressed?
I mean, are they ever at their full length?
It looks like the plunger tube isn't long enough for both springs to fully expand.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found my answer.

The diameter of the plunger tube is similar to a TTG, but it's a bit longer, so the results don't really surprise me. Though it was a nice feeling, seeing the dart soar 80 feet after a nice, satisfying *POP*.

I think the spring is from a Chainblazer or some old blaster of the type. It's about the same OD of the CL2's spring, so they sit together comfortably. The spring perch is actually really sturdy for such an old gun, I reopened it and no parts show any signs of stress. When I get to part three (planning it now), I will have to reinforce some parts though.

Part two is in the works ladies and gentlemen, it will probably be up later tonight!

Sorry for the double post, but:

PART II: SECONDARY FIRE.

You will need:
- Commlink II
- SMDTG
- 3x 4.5" pieces of PETG
- Hot Glue and/or Plumber's Goop
- Heavy-Duty rubber bands
- Dremel, or a file and a hacksaw

You should already have the SMDTG modded. Standard mods were done (4.5" PETG barrels, OPV plugged), I also added an SM1500 pump to decrease reload time:
Posted Image

Cut out most of the radio section of the Commlink. Sand or file it down:
Posted Image

Glue the SMDTG to the space, I only have hot glue on at the moment, but I will fill everything in with Epoxy Putty later. The pump was attached to the ammo holder on the side and glued down with Goop:
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Yes, I know that the SMDTG angles down, but it's easy to adjust with a slight upward aim

Put on three or four heavy bands and you're done:
Posted Image
It is actually more comfortable to hold than it looks. Can you tell I don't give a shit about aesthetics?

Ranges for the SMDTG (fired twice, six randomly chosen Stefans, same specs as before):
65'
62'
70'
68'
67'
63'

There turned out to be a leak on the main gun, which really decreased range. All patched up now, and the bands add a huge amount of power:
95'
99'
101'
96'
103'

Yeah, you read that right. This thing is a KILLING MACHINE. Definitely my new primary.

It is very accurate as well. If people get too close I let a burst from the SMDTG go. With the new SM1500 pump, it's only takes 7 pumps to prime it and about 10 seconds to reload the barrels.

I knew he was gonna integrate something to it! Great gun!
But ain't the SMDTG's barrels facing down?
