I just got my splitfire today. It seemed to be in working condition. At least the left barrel was. The SF is leaking, and draining the right barrel, but it is not leaking out the barrel at all. It is leaking out the pump shaft. I have NO CLUE how this happened. I searched, as far as I can tell, I am the first to have this problem. Any advice would be welcome.

EDIT: I just looked down the pump housing, and I can see two valves. It is leaking out the right one.

I've never seen an SF up close, but I'd wager the valves are a couple of check valves, you could probably pick up a (Probably bulkier) replacement at Lowes or Ace.

If I had the same problem that happened to you, you might need to replace the pump. Here's the story: well about a month ago, I pumped my wildfire like crazy, suddenly the pump shot out and it started leaking badly. A few weeks later, I opened it up (not able to pump it again) and found out that something in the pump gave (this little black piece) and it wouldn't keep the air inside the bladder. Since it's a wildfire, the pump is directly connected to the bladder & trigger mech, so I couldn't replace the pump, but a splitfire is a compresser gun (right?) so you should be able to replace the pump with ease.

If that's what happened to you...
P.S. I have NO EXPERIENCE with splitfires...so good luck!

Oh, try pulling out the pin a couple of times or add lubricant to the valve.

For the last time, it isn't leaking out the barrel! It is leaking out hte pump! I tried pulling the pin plenty of times. I see no way how to get lube all the way down there, the pump won't. I tried lubing the end of the pump, and pumping it down. It looks like I will have to get some silicone, and spray it down the pump, and pump it in. That MAY work.

Do you think the pump may have something to do with it? It may. A friend of mine had a problem like this.

Are you being sarcastic? I have mentionned that it is the pump in all of my previous posts. I can pump it up in less than 2 seconds, so I will probably carry it loaded, and then pump/shoot. I believe this is how people with leaky SF s roll.

I have two SF's with this problem (it sounds similar any way) and if I ever find a solution, I'll let you know.

It may have something to do with the pump, I know it.

But really, Splitfires always seem to be leaky and that's the reason I don't buy it for 40 bucks. I'm not familiar with them, but after reading countless people having the same problem, it is how it is. Try something new and take apart the gun for possible explanations. I think I remember people saying to glue the leaky areas to reseal evverything.

I'd guess perhaps the SF has a check valve for each barrel instead of a main at the pump. Possibly the CV has failed only on the one and so the compressed air shoots right back out the pump. Sadly with the way the thing is made I don't think there is a way to get around this. The whole thing is pretty much self contained. so you would have to hack the gun up to get to the cv and thus destroy the gun.
Possibly the check valve might simply be stuck open. And it could simply take a solid smack on the side to pop it back into place.

A broken check valve for the right wouldn't make anything leak. It would just make all of the pressure go into the left check valve or push the pump back out if you let it. But that's not the case. It's leaking somewhere after that check valve it sounds like.

Thanks for all the advice. I was wondering if anyone has a irreparable SF that they could cut apart, just around the trigger pegs. If there is vynil tubing there, Ican most likely fix it. Split is probably right, it is leaking somewhere after the check valve.

And some blasters really are both popular and mysterious enough that an "Autopsy" could be a popular article.

Darn, I had a nice post written up and, then my internet crapped out on me. In any case, the gist of it was:

I really like the idea of completely disassembling mysterious and complex guns. Examples: Vulcans (as has been done), Hornets, or any gun with an air tank that cannot be taken apart without breaking it (a la the Splitfire). I would especially like a picture of an air tank with a cut-away so that you can see the mechanism. Would this be useful? Maybe, maybe not. Would it be fun and interesting? Hell yes!

If (when) I ever break one of my air guns, I'll be sure to cut it up so that you can see the insides of the air system.
