Hey everyone. I was wondering if this was a good scroll saw. It is on sale right now for around $60 and I think this also for around the same price. Is this a good brand? If not, could you direct me to a decent one because I would like to have these tools for my "workshop"

Dewalt and Craftsman are the only brands I trust. I know they are always quality.....But make your wallet hurt more.

Agreed, although Ryobi makes decent stuff and is fairly cheap given their quality. My high schools robotics team used nothing but Ryobi power tools and we've had no complaints.

I don't know about their power tools, but Task Force hand tools are complete garbage. The place I work uses them, and they really suck.

In my opinion, off brand tools can be fine, but it depends on how hard you push them. Cheap tools work fine for infrequent, light use. I had an off-brand drill that I've been using for a few years, and it stood up fine for my various small projects. But then I tried using it for a large construction project this summer, and smoked it.

If all you'll be using it for is small work, then you'll probably be fine with inexpensive. But if you ever think you'll be using it more intensively, then get better quality right away.

I second that. For REAL work yeah any of those recommended brands are the way to go. When you are putting up house frames everyday for 8 HR a day you want something that is QUALITY and know isn't going to crap out on you.

But you are modding nerf guns. A couple hours a week. probably even less on a tool like a scroll saw. Maybe once a month for 20-30 min. You don't need to drop big coin on this. hell most the crap at harbor freight will do just fine for modding nerf guns.

The only tool that I would recommend you spend a little extra on is your power drill. Only because that is something you will use for a lot of stuff and crappy power drills are annoying as hell.

Forgive my spelling and grammar. I post from my cell phone a lot. Sometimes when I'm on the can at work.

Well, I would be using the scroll saw to cut plastic(I want to make a +bow) if possible. And which is better for all around cutting, scroll saw or band saw?

Any of the name brand stuff like Delta, DeWalt, Craftsman, Milwaukee, etc. are great, off brand, not so much so.

Most scroll saws are around the same price no matter what the brand is. I just have a $99 Ryobi and it works fine.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

Okay, you are all wrong, Harbor Freight is the best.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Seriously, I bought an allen wrench set from there, and the first time I used them, I'm not shitting you, it snapped in half. I wasn't even applying any strength either.

But Craftsman is my brand. I only use thier tools, and Dewalt.

I don't trust Craftsman power tools. Ever. Craftsman is just good for hand tools because they all have a lifetime replacement warranty, which means that if your chisel ever gets dull, they'll replace it for free on the spot.

Dude he's not talking about looks, he's talking about if they work correctly.. Give a good suggestion instead of a shitty comment about being pretty. On topic - I mostly use black and decker but like Carbon said, offbrand is fine for small projects. As for hand tools I use husky.

Ok, Well, I'll look toward the scroll saw and the drill press mainly cause they are on sale right now at Lowes for around $55 each. But now the question is where to get the money and where to put it.

I'd have to echo CS, Blacksunshine, and Carbon here. In my experience, Ryobi makes a pretty solid tool. I have a couple of their +One cordless tools, and they are awesome. I've been a home owner for Eight years now, and both of our houses have been older, poorly maintained properties. It's been a long, uphill battle, and I have worked our tools pretty hard. If I were a contractor or something, I would surely use some of the big brands, but even for heavy homeowner use on the weekends, most off brands or entry level stuff works great. Much the same at work... I run the front office at an auto shop. I know that the best tools for working on vehicles EVERY day are Snap-On, MAC, Cornwell, etc. But when I need to wrench on my own cars? My Stanley and Craftsman stuff works just fine.

I would buy them. Both of their prices added together is what the cheapest scroll saw at my Home Depot costs.
