I was just wondering if anyone had tried making a homemade that uses helical clips. I haven't seen any, but if someone has made one, or if anyone realizes this wouldn't work, I would like to know before I spend the money on materials.

Here is an example of a helical clip: Calico SMG

Thanks for any help.

As far as I know, there hasn't been a successful helical clip designed yet. I am currently working a drum magazine, but it is still in the sketching stages. Perhaps you could make the first practical helical clip. ;)

EDIT: I agree with CS below ----v. It would take a lot of engineering and machining to produce. The concept's nice though...

I haven't seen any

Because making a helix and a matching follower cleanly would be very difficult.
Making one work with a soft ammunition would also be very difficult and it would probably just mangle your darts.

The helical magazine in a calico has to be wound up. The helical magazine of the Bizon SMG I think simply uses a spring but I haven't seen any dissections of it.

Honestly, don't bother.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

Huh. I've never seen those clips before, but they look kind of cool, if not sort of gimmicky/impractical. I don't know how well that would work for nerf.

My friend and I are going to start working on one, but the thing about it is that it would need to be part of a specially made gun, you cant just put one on the bottom of a LS clip.

I think it would be just as easy to have an automatic stefan making machine in your nerf gun as it would be to have a helical magazine.

My friend made a home-made gun that ran on helical clips, it was awsome, it had a motor that turned this screw, that pushed the dart (because of the desing the darts had to be streamlines), then when it got the this pneumatic breech thing, it whent into this slot that it drops in and then the breech whent back and forth, and when the breech whent into the barrel, a blast of air shot it about 60'. It was really awsome, I will try to see if he still has his original blue-prints.

I don't think that has been done yet. But I do think that it would be very difficult. I mean with nerf darts something is bound to go wrong.

Working drum mag for my Vulcan/longshot is already done.. Part 3 I think of the overhaul in my sig. Longshot part writeup hasn't been finished yet (pending finishing my paintjob). Also still working on the breeched version. 5 tested types of breeches haven't worked yet for it.

You would need a lathe and a milling machine to pull a helical clip off, unless you just happen to have access to an injection-molding machine or a rapid prototyper. If you mave any of the above tools, hten by all means, go for it! I for one want to see how it turns out. If you don't, however, forget it.

Well I'll tell you that's pretty close to an idea for a clip I had in an idea of mine. What you do is take a firefly's rotating barrel and take out the air restrictor and the whole piece stopping the dart, and mod it to a longshot. (You do this by shortening it to fit the chamber. You also have to cut a piece out of the top of each dart holder to allow for the top peice of the bolt of the LS to slide through. Aside from that you have to take out most of the clip hoder [save this] and re-enforce the top part of the gun. Also you have to make it so the bolt action moves the barrel around.) Next you take that clip holding piece or the extra clip holder and mount it to the side of the longshot so that it lines up with the back of a dart holding piece. (Make sure that dart has clear path to go into the back of the rotating barrel. I also suggest 1/2 pvc to let the dart slide through to the holder.) Next, rig the bolt so that a piece shoves a dart into the rotating barrel reloeading the barrel every time you reset to shoot again.

Is this a far-fetched idea? You bet. I have no clue if this works and I probably won't untill someone trys to build it or I can get the funding for this.(By this I mean sell my M-mod longshot [which hasn't even been realesed as a mod. Not only that but I need to redesign the holster mod on it so that it's more convienient to use.] So until then I won't know if this weapon, which I call the R-mod longshot, even works.

A quick note:
I have no expectations for this to become a succes of any type. This is more a novelty item than a reallistic item as it is an overly compicated way to do something that comes standard with the gun.

A second note:
This idea could become a more valid idea if a different way to reload it is come up with. I have a few but like my original idea, they're all novelty ideas.

A final note:
The reason I've posted this idea here is I didn't think this deserved a whole forum topic, and this one is close enough to my idea, I decided to post it here.
