So its like the new version only the tube is long enough to cover the whole lenght of the original plunger tube?

Obviously we don't know for sure until someone gets one, but I think that is the way to bet.

The cool part is that for both versions that should supply room for more springs. With the new, you should be able to just insert, and with the old, cut off the dead part of the back of the plunger first. This will almost certainly lead to a bunch of new mods for the Recon. Whether any will be able to bring the suckage meter up to zero remains to be seen.

Yeah that or even just swap it on a new recon and have an instant spring chamber. no cutting required. I asked for three since I have 3 recons. So I guess we will see.

Nobody here is age 4 to 12 and therefore shouldn't be dumb enough to hold on to the plunger while pulling the trigger.
But one should never underestimate human stupidity.

Really how the hell do you do that. I used my old recon so much and this never happened.

Because you need to be 13 to be on this site.

On topic: It looks like Bamblack2000 has something on his Recon in his sales thread. 7th picture from the bottom, the top Recon. Could this be the kit thing?

I think I'll send away for the cover just to have the option. I mean hey, it might turn out to be a pretty sweet decorational piece. Failing that, I can modify it into one if I'm ever so inclined. Really, it's a win-win, because even if I decide it sucks, it was free and I don't have to do anything with it. (Not to mention I don't have my Recon handy ATM, so it really doesn't matter.)

Ice could be right here. Eliminatiors do use the same kind of plunger set up as the recon. Maybe they will be issuing these things too, and sending out those plunger covers for them too, which would ruin the pocket size and mini gun.

Not quite I have a new recon and the cover well covers up the exact length of the old ARMED chamber that extends out of the back of the original. I'm pretty sure the kit will basically be this exact cover which means you still need an exterior spring guide and have to do cutting as there is no room for a spring to compress inside this thing. It may how ever make adding a spring easier. I imagine if you just zip off the very back bit (like the last 1/8th inch) and put a PVC end cap on you'd have all the room you need for a spring to fully compress. Heck all you need is a screwdriver, a spring, a saw/dremel some epoxy and the end cap.

No, actually. The Recon V1.1 has a shorter tube. On the 1.0 version, the tube had an extra dead space section sticking off the back end. So the retrofit plunger covers will need to be longer than those that they are using on the V1.1.

That's bullshit. They should'nt recall a blaster because 0.000001304 of a percent of the kids who bought it pinched themselves. Out of the over quarter-million of them sold, 46 kids hurt themselves. I bet they all ride the short bus to school.
EDIT: (I know, my math is probably wrong. Please correct me if it is.)

But I used to ride the short bus.

The only way I could see that happening is if a fat kid was using the gun with no shirt on, and pressed the gun against his body when he used it so that his man boob got pinched.

I guess this just shows how stupid some children are. With things like this, apparently we can't just say it's the kid's fault for getting hurt, it's all because of the gun's design.

Wow that's messed...you know, a few of us actually are fat...and actually go out there and NERF...
(like me)

Anyways, other than that very disturbing mental picture...I've heard someone say "grab the plunger tube, then pull the trigger" I'm able to do that and it is not near strong enough for that thing to pull your hand in and pinch your finger. Although for a 6 year old it might be...well Recon's suck anyways, this recall is probably for the better

That really doesn't change my point. Even if it is longer to cover the original version there doesn't appear to be any dead space for a spring to compress in after watching the video showing the instalation of the repair kit. But you are right, the newer version doesn't stick out as far, they shortened the reverse plunger chamber to the length that the barrel actually pushes back into it.

I've been playing with my original version, and I really can't see how kids could be so dumb as to get their selves caught on the plunger when it is fired. they'd have to press their skin right into the seam and pull the trigger, and even then, how they get seriously injured is beyond me.

I thik i figured out the injury to the chest thing. After the kid had primed it he tryed to push with all his might the plunger tube back into the gun with his chest. He then pulled the trigger slamming the pistol right into his chest. Which was his own freaking fault.

And on the spring addition matter, if this hasn't been stated, You ptobably would need a small-ass spring to put in that tupe because it is not a lot of room. The more sensible thing is to make one. I think i did a thread on that...weird. But i think dead dumpsters one is better becase mine requires the stock at all times. They should both be in the directory.

Maybe someone used the plunger tube as a cheek rest or put the end of the tube against their cheek and pulled the gun back while firing, having the gun slam into face.

I can guarantee that that's what happened in at least some of the cases. I was joking about this yesterday while over at a friend's house, and he mentioned that it had happened to his son. His son is 5-ish, and the Recon is a pretty decent sized gun for a kid that age, especially with the ARMED tube fully extended. Five year olds are also not exactly known for thier extensive grasp on physics nor thier forethought on the consequences of all of thier actions either.

So yes, at least for my friend's son, the ARMED tube was being used as a stock/cheek rest, and pinched his cheek at least once while he was using it. Note however, this incident did not prompt my friend to immediately call for Hasbro to fix the "problem", it just made the son more careful when using the Recon in the future, a situation I wished happened more often with this sort of thing....

I weep for humanity when the day comes where parents are so stuck up that its the toy's fault instead of the kids. I mean, lead paint or a knife attached to it is one thing, but a kid being dumb, then a parent getting mad at the company? It just sounds like crap.

Saying that they ride the short bus to school is a mindless comment singling out kids with special needs. I agree that who cares if 0.000001304 of kids who buy these things hurt themselves.

I got a letter too! Mine has a Mr. Potato Head watermark. Its strange that they waste money sending you a letter telling you that their going to send your package in 3-4 weeks... instead of just sending the package in the first place.

Okee doke, folks... I just received my first Recon retrofit kit. It is just like the newer design of plunger cover, but long enough to cover the first gen plunger. These seem to be pretty cheaply made, though. Definitely thinner plastic than the new version. I doubt they will hold up very well with any spring tension. I asked for three, but they only sent me one, so I guess we must submit individual claims for each unit.
