Have you guys ever tried to put in glow in the dark airsoft bb's instead of fishing wieghts when making stefan darts? Or regular airsoft bb's for that matter. I just thought that if you put a glow in the dark bb in place of the wieght, you might be able to have some nice night battles. I'm gonna make one tonight and see if you can see it glow through the hot glue. Just wanted to know if it's been done before.

I thought about getting some glow in the dark spraypaint once, but I never got around to it. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Tracer Darts were used in the Light Storm series. Only those guns sucked. Im workin on a md, cause i messed mine up and am trying to fix it. Back on topic, im working on away to adapt tracers to other guns.

The dart is a success! I placed one of my .20g airsoft bb's in a micro stefan and charged her up. Here are some pics. I had to put them on geocities becuase they weren't appearing in the post itself for some reason. Just copy and paste the links in. I have one pic of the dart with lights on then a pic of the dart with just a little bit of light.

I've given tracer darts some thought. You basically have two options, a rechargeable option which would be some kind of glow in the dark material like the glow in the dart airsoft bbs. The other option is a chemical glow as in light sticks. Currently in my neck of the woods they sell small glow sticks in vending machines for $0.25 each and they'd fit nicely in a dart.

If you aren't familiar with them they are plastic tubes with chemicals and a glass tube in them. In the glass is another container so when you bend the plastic you break the glass and release the chemical, they mix and you get a chemical glow. I haven't figured out how this could be used in a tracer round but one idea would be to drill a hole straight through and cap one end with glue, before loading up crack a glow stick and drop it in, secure the bottom with tape and the glue will glow nicely.

There are other ways to implement this but I'll let you all figure them out. The other glow material must be charged so it glows less and less while you are waiting for the enemy. It is available in paint form, spray and otherwise. You might be able to find glow in the dark hot glue but I didn't see any on eBay.

If we are talking night battles then you can get some of those disposable cameras with the flash. Actually the next time you know someone with one you can take the thing apart and pull out the film (once it has been all shot that is) and keep the camera for yourself. The flash could be used like a stun grenade, either on a timer (good luck figuring that out) or hand held. The problem is you have to be close enough to activate it. Again this is a good use for those cheap remote control cars. I'm picturing some duct tape to hold it together range would be about 40 feet if you beefed it up enough (40 feet from operator to flash) probably doable for about $5-$7.

Some interesting ideas Spork,

I don't think the glow sticks would be that good because they are so temporary. Once you break them, they only glow for a few hours, so the darts you build them in have to be built and used all in one evening.

That is badass, snake. Nice work dude. If at all possible do you think that you could make an mpeg of one of your tracers being fired?

I find this particularly interesting...I do alot of night wars around where I live, this would come in handy. Are the BB's plastic? How do they do for weights? Are they just like normal stefans, only they glow flourescent green like Predator blood?

Very interested. Use these during day wars and go out at night to collect ammo. Heh, that thing glows much brighter than I expected. If you're playing inside with glow in the dark ammo/guns, try using a black light and maybe a strobe. That would make shit interesting. I'd also like to see a video of the dart firing, does it leave a trail?

During Halloween I found something like a glow in the dark-spray and tried it on two of my micro darts. I tried to put them into my moddified Tech Target Pistol, but they not fixed into the barrel. :(
Maybe Larami gets the great idea of making glow in the dark-darts. That would be cool for indoor games. :o

Darn you neonerfer. I was thinking about the whole black light thing, forgot it and then you beat me to it. With black light reactive paint you could do indoor basement wars that would be neat. Some indoor paintball places have this already so one of them may be used for a war though this could be pricey. Another option would be to have a war and use a portable black light to find darts after dark as was suggested with the straight glow stuff. This could also be used as identification of your darts if you are anal about that.

When I was in high school we used a glow in the dark tape to mark out where to move props and set pieces during scene changes. If the drag is low enough you might be able to make a glowing zero dart out with it.

Hey guys, I've been at school so now I will answer some questions. First off, the bb wieghs .2 grams. I used one of my airsoft bb's for my auto tracer. These babies cost like 15 bucks just for 600 of them. But, you can get them cheaper if you but the .12g bb's which are 10 dollars for 2,500. I'm not so sure if they will glow as well because i have not used .12 before. I will try to get an mpeg up for you guys soon. Here are the links again to the places you can get the .20g and the .20g glow in the dark bb's.....

For reference, I just calculated the approximate weight of 1/4" steel slingshot ammo which is the lightest weight I've found to be effective in high power guns.

6.42514 grams.

32 times heavier than a .2 gram airsoft bb.

O snap. I'll try to put some more weight in the back of the glow in the dark bb. I'll keep experimenting with it.

I'm trying to film the dart in action, but for some reason, it's not showing up. I can get the glow about 5 feet away from my video camera but then it fades out. But with the human eye, the glow works very well. And as for the weight problem, I wrapped some scotch tape around the tip to put more wieght and so it would fit the barrel better. This made the dart fly well with like a spring gun's power. I still need to test it with like a SS2 or another pump gun. Sadly to say, my SS2 is under construction:( But I have high hope for this dart. I know for know that it would make a sweet shotgun effect, if the bb and hot glue was accompanied by about 1 1/2 cm of backer rod and scotch tape. Bare with me guys, I will hopefully make this a universal dart.

Sounds like a good idea I might try to make some but make the whole dart glow so you can see it shoot out clearly that would look cool
There may be some glow in the dark sticky tape I think or just paint it with glow in the dark paint and put sticky tape (clear) around it after it's dry so the paint won't crack off.

Well, the tracer may not work for high powered guns (yet), but it works splendidly in a powerclip. I made the darts smaller, they now are 2 inches, to even out the weight. Since the powerclip is less powerfull and has a high rate of fire, the darts look 10x sweeter because you can see 10 tracers coming at you in less than 3 seconds. I'm still working out the high powered tracer dart right now. But Grinch, the hot glue looks like it would work great. I'm also still trying to get atleast a still of these tracers being fired out oof my PC. Take a look at the new PC tracer........Remember to copy and paste

What would really work well would be using a manual camera at night. Open the aprature (sp?), fire the darts and then close it. You'll get streaks of light across the film and they'd look really cool if you hit a stationary target (AKA friend).

I just tried going to nerf center to look up the gun I'm thinking of, but NC appears to be totally gone now.

In any case, there was a gun (from whatever seriese brought guns that looked like animals) that had a clear plastic clip and darts that were wraped in Glow-In-The-Dark material. The gun had a camera flash in it that would go off before you would fire the gun so the dart would always be glowing bright when fired. I guess most of the people replying to this topic wouldn't remember that gun, but if anyone has one or pictures of one, post 'em.

If anyone has one of those really little gluesticks you see people put in their mouth, I'm sure you could wrap some tape around one end of that untill it's about the size of a mini and then you could put foam craft sheet around the end making it a zero. You would probably have to weight the end of it because the whole thing would be the same weight and the foam would cause drag, so if you didn't weight it, it would flip end over end in mid flight.
