Thanks in advance.

So I've modded a bit, but never built from scratch. I tore some ligaments in my elbow a couple months ago and got a great, cyborg style arm brace from the ordeal. It's perfect for mounting hardware on and I want build it out with a compressed air nerf launcher. Are there any existing designs that you all would recommend I base a design on?

Thoughts:
- The air canister should be on the upper arm and connect by hose to the barrel on the forearm (is this feasible, or would there be to much pressure?)
- I would want some type of limited push trigger - so even if I held it down, it would only let out a limited amount of air. Is there a simple way to engineer this physically, or would I need bust out a capacitor rigged switch?
- If the barrel is connected by hose instead of pipe tot he air canister, does the design need to be altered?

Thanks for humoring me. This will be really cool if I can pull it off. Also, if any of you have experience rigging up laser sites, that's also something I'd like to try - but not essential.

First, get yourself a Spiderman Dart Tag Blaster (abbreviated SMDTG around here) as a "baseline" for conversation. Let us know what about it does not meet your needs, and we can offer suggestions.

Excellent! I didn't see that on Hasbro's site. Thanks Bob. So yeah, that would make an excellent barrel (Hoping I can isolate the barrel from the wrist mount), but obviously I'd still like to rig it up to compressed air by hose. Could it handle that sort of pressure? What type of reinforcement would you recommend?

I will absolutely not take the pressure from an air compressor, especially if it packs like 130psi. If you have to set the master regulator lower, or get a secondary regulator and set it to somewhere between 30 and 40 psi.

No Nerf blaster can handle pressures above 70psi. Single-fire or semi-auto blasters in particular are not likely to handle more than 45psi.

Would a regulator like this be sufficient? Overkill?

That would work, but this would be cheaper.

An idea I came up with a while ago involved something
like that and you could use a design similar to it.
I just used a rf25 trigger and connected it to two 2 liter bottles
then to a pump and then it just refills a at3k air resvoir when you just hold
down the rf20 trigger to refill the at3k thing then just fire it seperatly.
Then just store the bottles in a backpack.
I will be doing a write up on this soon as my first post.
hope this helps and good luck.

I personally don't think mounting an airtank on your arm is wise, but if I had a situation like yours, I probably would lose all sense of self preservation because it'd be too damned cool.

Design concepts? I'm not the one to ask about functionality in regard to airtanks, but cosmetically speaking and setup-wise...

One of Hilt's Krazy Krew showed up at SPANO with a Supermax gun hooked up to an airtank, and an arm cannon built around it. He looked like Samus because it had an awesome paintjob. Reloading was an issue though.

So, if you were to make an arm cannon, a la Samus, that would be awesome, and you could use a hose and a tank in a backpack. otherwise, just use a spidey gun. They are pretty badass

Okay. Looking at hooking up the SMDTB to 9oz air tank limited to 45psi and triggered using a solenoid air valve for a car horn... does that sound incredibly dumb, or right on?

Yeah, that's guy that BustaNinja mentioned had a crazy arm cannon at SPANO. Everyone was gathering around to see it. We kept asking how far it shot, and he said something dumb like 300ft. It shot like you would expect from a SM3k, but the ranges declined since the pressure was dropping quickley. It was an effective gun while it lasted. He would load multiple darts into each barrel and fire them off in rapid succesion, so it could be difficult to dodge at times. I think he hit me a few times with it just beause I doubted the slow moving darts would actually reach me, but they did.

If this man, who is clearly gay, shot me several times, I would be VERY embarrassed. Seriously, I'm embarrassed for you. How embarrassing.

Explain "9oz air tank" ... I think you are looking at CO2. If it was really an air tank, I would expect capacity to be stated in units of volume such as cubic inches. CO2 introduces one severe problem: cold. Far too cold for most plastics.

Yes, CO2 tank. Sorry for the lapse in proper nomenclature. It came today. 9oz Pure Energy paintball CO2 tank.

My rig will look significantly better than that one... Yikes.

I've never worked with pin valves before. Does anyone know what the part is called that locks into place and opens the valve?

Thanks!

Actually, you meant to say HPA. CO2 is bad for plastics, as has been stated before. High pressure air will be fine though.

Okay, attached are some caps of what I've tinkered together so far.

So the bolt pushes down on the pin valve in the tank to release air which is then routed into the regulator. I'm debating whether to order the solenoid valve with expensive, 2 day shipping or not at this point. On one hand, I could rig up some kind of plunger to trigger the valve on the regulator and use that as a button and save 37 bucks... on the other hand, the plunger could fly out of my rig and kill someone... which would be bad...

I've never been a big fan of arm blasters; mainly because using an arm blaster denies the use of a perfectly good hand for other things, and if you have a blaster on your arm you're more likely to break the gun when you dive for cover or try to do something without realizing you've got a blaster that will catch the abuse instead of your body.

Go for the solenoid, you should go down to your local home depot, they'll probably be able to help you out.
