This Is Ridiculous.

First off, every day I see these posts on how to mod a gun. The people who posted them are asking how to mod it, or to come up with a mod. Half the fun of nerf is coming up with your own mod, and if it doesn’t work? Redo it a different way. It’s the only way to learn what to and not to do first hand. There people don’t even try to mod it themselves, let alone come up with an original mod, because theyre lazy, and that really annoys me. If nerf is reduced to asking others what to do and being lazy about it, what fun is that?
Another thing that I starting to piss me off is people who say “co2 isn’t nerf” and that’s just bull. It can be interpreted either way, but if were making our own guns from our own ideas, and using our own ammo, than that isn’t nerf either, but merely based off of the idea. If co2 isn’t nerf, than a lot isn’t, and co2 is used mostly for homemades, so it doesn’t change a thing. If nerf isn’t expanding and evolving into more complicated methods and guns, than were getting nowhere, making no progress, and doing the same thing over and over is fun. Repetition is very boring, and people who cant accept that a gas can help and isn’t part of nerf are just ignorant. Now I know a lot of people are going to say “priming is what makes nerf different from AS and PB”. And particularly I don’t give a shit. I hear many people saying that to single barrel a 3k with take away rof and that they don’t use some guns because of rof. So really, people want very fast rof, range, and are not willing to use co2. The only reason for this is because they’re too lazy. You could call me a hypocrite for not using co2 myself, but only because I don’t care much for homemades, and I love coming up with mods much better.
No one wants to advance or do things themselves. As you’ve read, laziness is the reason. If this continues, those stupid remarks of the NIC is dying are going to come true, merely because it gets boring. You could say I’m sitting on my ass and am a hypocrite, or you could wait a few days to find out what I’m doing.

I agree wholeheartedly with your first statement, THIRST. In fact I bet everyone does. But for your first mod, it's a good idea to use someone else's designs. You wouldn't go build you first computer by hand, and the same goes for Nerf guns.
Anyhow, back to the CO2. I'll start with saying, Nerf is different for everyone. For over a decade I thought Nerf was making bases inside and shooting stock Nerf guns at your friends from across the basement. To some people, Nerf may be making high powered homemade rifles that use already pressurized air tanks of Oxygen or Carbon Dioxide. It really is different for everyone. That being said, Nerf is essentially a brand name. All of Nerf's guns shoot foam darts. Therefore, this has been a standard in the field of Nerf. Secondly, all Nerf guns first used springs to pressurize air. After Larami, the company that brought us air pressure squirt guns started producing dart and ball guns, Nerf followed suit. To this day, 99% of Nerf guns are propelled by springs or hand pumps. (Let's not get into the Gyrostrike/MB150 Ballzooka/Ripsaw deal)
If I wanted to spend money on protective gear and actual sporting good gear like CO2, or if I wanted to only play Nerf on specialized courses, I would opt to play Paintball instead. Nerf to me is principally taking plastic children's guns that shoot foam ammunition using spring or air pumps and upgrading them so I can have a little more fun with them. If Nerf to you is CO2, have a blast. I hope your friends are interested too, it could be a lot of fun. But don't try and change our minds about it, because Nerf is in the eye of the beholder. God that's cheezy. What a great way to end my post. *cheeze!*

Tell me again how not being lazy equals letting the C02 companies pressurize your air for you, instead of having to do it yourself?
Because incorparating a co2 valve and firing mechanism can be challenging.
You wouldn't go build you first computer by hand, and the same goes for Nerf guns.
Computers can cost thousands of doller, nerf guns cost 5-10.
But don't try and change our minds about it
Of course Im not trying to change what you think, this is jsut soething to think about that is obviously occuring.

What I agree with Thirst on is the cost of guns. Now granted a crossbow will cost you an ass and a wang. But when it comes to really good guns like 1500's, 2k's and 5k's, if you break it, big deal. Use it for parts. I've got so many broken guns sitting around it's sickening. Now it sucks when a gun goes bad, such as my latest 1500. But life goes on, I'll get a new one from somebody. But I'm not going to piss myself over it. I do say make your own mods.
More of the reason I don't use gas is because it's just dangerous. A cartridge puts out enough air to blow the shit out of a nerf gun, sending peices of it through out your god damn arm. I'm not in the business of loosing limbs. That and I like pumping and cocking (oh yeah!).

There are just two fundamental things that differentiate Nerf from other war game toys: cost, and priming. It could be argued that these things are Nerf in the most basic sense. CO2 changes the playing field completely.
If you want to make a CO2 powered gun and call it Nerf, that's entirely up to you. I'm going to keep telling people to keep them the fuck out of my wars cause that's not what my Nerf is all about.
As for your first paragraph, perhaps you should have deleted that section when you cross posted it from NHQ. It doesn't belong over here.

Anyways, I'm just gonna give a nod to what everyone else said. As far as mods go most people ARE going to start by following an established mod and after becoming familiar with the process start to experiment with their own designs. At any rate, I don't think that unique mod designs are in short supply here at NH. Especially since the popularization of the god-forsaken integration field of mods (fuck YOU Lcm).
As for CO2 and homemades; if you want to build em, rock on. I'm sure it's challenging and I'm sure that the completion of a successful design is very gratifying. If you try telling me that CO2 is the future of Nerf or should be allowed in Nerf-Outs I will tell you to go fuck yourself and then snap the barrel off your beastly creation. Hell, even Vacc has a homemade kicking around but he knows it has its proper place, and that's not on the Nerf field.
Rock on.

As for C02, my thoughts are similar to Cxwq and Famine's: They're great if you want a project or something, but in my opinion change the "feel" of the game by making it way too focused on distance and power. Not to mention the safety risks that start to come into play. Nerf's never going to gain much popularity if the only way a kid who is starting out can not get slaughtered is to build his own C02 powered homemade. Christ I don't even think I could build one.....
