Ha. I built my own, and after all the mess ups, I spent a total of about 60-70 dollars. but I gained alot of experience.

Also, thanks for your plunger head design Rork. I used that instead, and my ranges improved dramatically. its great.

I'm glad to see the design being used. There are a few of these popping up here and there now...

I'm currently working on integration brackets. :P

Just something to throw in. The only homemades i've ever seen banned have been pump guns.

Because most PVC air cannons are insane and not safe for shooting at anything other than low-flying aircraft.

All it is is one of carbon's snaps with a stock and a tee coupler for a handle. I think rork should of consulted with carbon before selling his overpriced snaps.

I know it's been covered, but I thought I should mention myself that rork asked me beforehand about selling his SNAPbows, and I of course said yes. I put out my designs so people could evolve it and expand on it, so he didn't really have to do that...but it does show that he's approaching the whole thing with a degree of class, and I appreciate it.

As far as squabbling over rork "overpricing". The hard fact is that homemades are seldom (if ever) priced at what they're worth, as far as time and development. I was selling my basic SNAP at $25 + shipping, which in retrospect was a little underpriced as far as time it takes to make them (between running around gathering parts, and actual physical labor. Nevermind development time). Rork has developed a handful of great tweaks that push the range of a standard SNAP well above 100'. Between that and the additional work required to add a stock and whatnot, $52 is quite reasonable.

Aafter all, if you think it's overpriced...build one. Rork gave you a great writeup to do just that.

Oh shit sorry I just read your writeup. I was confusing this with the snap with the cardboard on it to make it look like a plusbow. But for the price of materials I don't think a $30 fee for work is applicable. Carbon was selling the same thing minus the stock for $20 ( I think don't quote me on it).

I'm with Nonsense on this one. I just made Carbons SNAP 1.5 and It only cost $25-30 in materials, and now I can make at least 3 more. So, $52 shipped seems a lot. It only took 4 hours to make if you followed Carbons set up and his measurements. And I think you made your SNAPbow a little more complicated than it should be. I didn't use a +bow spring in mine, but used a handyman spring and a BBB spring, and I'm guessing I get around 80-9'(Not exact here). But 120' with a +bow spring, that's insane. Whats holding the couplers together? I would think that that kind of a spring will fuck up the gun fairly easily. I know that cause just with the 2 springs, one of my rubber washers got torn.

Like Carbon said, I'm essentially charging for my aggravation; $10/hr. is small money. It's not like I'm making significant profit. I'm doing ALL the work; I make way more money doing my real job, and I'm doing this in my spare time. As for the power issue: PVC is strong stuff. When you put it together properly, it's not shifting. Slug contained the power of that spring with a combination of strong plastic and great engineering. I used big honking chunks of plastic.

Four hours? So at $50 minus cost of materials, rork made about $6 an hour. If I were building a handcrafted product and reselling it here, you'd better believe I'd be charging enough to make at least $15 an hour.

Edit:beaten like a redheaded stepchild.

Double edit: If you feel rork is ripping people off, you should try building a few of your own guns and selling them. See if you're still willing to sell them at cost after you've put in a solid day of labor.

I have made a snapbow and a + bow (the plus bow was the most challenging thing I had to do- EVER), But the + bow was undoubtedly the most awsome. The accuracy was OFF THE CHARTS, better than the snapbow. Infact the snapbows accuracy sucked horribly.

If the SNAPbow was inaccurate, you did something wrong.

I'm sorry but I don't believe anything you say. Your the one asking for crossbow parts (every one) for $80.00. I don't think anyone takes your word. I've used both guns, the +bow I will say takes more time and is more difficult to make from the looks of things but the snap is NO WAY IN HELL an inaccurate shot. Unless your using streamlines or retarded stefans, all shots are perfect. Since you made your own (so you say) then it may not have been done correctly. Maybe you used the wrong spring, or just fucked up in all. The point is that people were saying the SNAP can't compete with the +bow. And I think there wrong. They're both great guns, and everyone should try making them. It's my new primary and i'm choosing it over my crossbow.

I am appalled that this thread has gone into crap this deep. The simple fact is IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND $52 ON THIS BLASTER, DON'T SPEND $52 ON THIS BLASTER. Get over it people. Even Carbon said it wasn't over-priced. I personally wouldn't buy one because I see some things I would like to change. He did make a write-up to build one though, so I can make my own. Stop whining about the price. Nobody is making you buy anything. I could easily post a thread trying to sell a NIB longshot for $50. It would be a waste of my time but nothing more.

I'm hoping to finish mine today and if I do, I'll post a review. Stop whining about prices. I've sold modded MagStrikes for $50 because of the time I put into them. Parts (other than the magstrike itself which I got on sale for $20) weren't much more than a few dollars (when purchased in bulk and used for several modifications). I wouldn't have sold it for anything less due to the annoyance of modding these. Point is, if you're going to buy a modded blaster, EXPECT to pay for LABOR. And if you're getting the labor for $10 or less, consider it a bargain.

Now shut up about this homemade until you have seen one in action, except to tell Rork and Carbon how genius they are for coming up with an incredible homemade alternative!

I'm online in school write now, and even my teacher thinks they are at an okay price. By the way just a little side note, this thread wasn't only for a review on the SNAP but also reviews on other guns.

One suggestion I have, other than stop bitching about the price, is for Rork. Revise it! I know Carbon revised the SNAP a ton before he decided to sell it. The SNAPbow has amazing performance but there are definitely some ways you could revise it to make it cheaper and easier to build.

Hmm.... might have to use the new plunger-head design in my SNAP-Twin, see if I can squeeze a little more range out of it. I'm running the standard SNAP plunger head and 12" of CPVC. Don't really want to reglue my grip though... a quandary... I'll get back to you on this.

I second that. The creation is amazing from what I hear, but there are ways you could make it better, smaller, cheaper, ect. Carbon also has made many different kinds of snaps, but I suppose that this is out of the question because it is supposed to be a blend of the snap and the plus-bow.

Sure there are different things you can do to a SNAP, but it will still be a SNAP. I'm pretty sure after building more then five SNAPs, rork would have figured out easier ways to do things if there were any.

It's so simplistic and effective now that I personally can't really think of any way to improve it that wouldn't complicate it further. There's just not much you can do to the basics of the design itself since there are so few parts.

I replaced the old style PVC plunger head in Daedalus with something similar to Carbon's fender washer design. I used a 1 1/4" washer on top of a ring of 0.093" polycarbonate. The weight savings boosted my range by about 10 ft. Carbon, awesome design, Rork, awesome adaptation, although I would NEVER pay someone to make a blaster for me. Its too much fun to do it myself.

The only thing I did to make mine smaller was not use the stock, and some other not needed parts.

As for refinement, Slug is right. There are NO superfluous parts on this blaster. Even the stock and fore-end, while not technically necessary for operation, add significant ergonomic elements to the basic design; the gun is just too long and heavy to get every bit of performance out of it as a pistol. Every part of this blaster has been gone over with a fine-tooth comb, so to speak. The only other major part that you can really play with is the front bushing; I waffle back and forth between threaded and slip, as both offer great options, in terms of barrel setups. I'm working on something new in that direction; I'll post when it's done. At this point, it's all about assembling/fabricating/tweaking it as cleanly and efficiently as possible. ~Rork

PS: Having said all that, if anyone's got any suggestions, make 'em.

That;s the case for me right there. It's more fun making or modding guns than buying one already mad or modded. That kills the fun out of it. Rock, I love your extra rubber washer design. I'm going to go put and extra one(one of my torn ones) when I finish my damned homework. Again, I wouldn't pay $52 for that gun, but it's not my decision.

It may be more fun to mod guns yourself, but thats not the whole thing about nerf. Some people can't mod guns, so they have to buy them. I personally love modding and bought this one to have, and to create my own by looking at it in person. That's not the case for most people, one of my friends needs me to modify every gun for him. The kid needed me to put a coupler on a BBB, but he still loves to nerf.

Two/three things I could think:
1. Make the trigger guard/foregrip and handle one piece. Make a long piece 1 1/4" PVC that acts as foregrip and trigger guard, then screw the handle onto that piece. Then attach the lower receiver to the blaster via screws. (something like the one DTReaper made).
2. Only use Screws, then everything is easily replaceable and you don't have to worry about glue/adhesives/etc. You've done a pretty good job of this, but I see glue in some places.
3. Keep making them! The more you make these the quicker you will be able to produce them. If the price of these things went down to even just $40, I could see you selling a lot more of them.

Think the one on my SNAP is thinwall 3/4" PVC. It's either that or 1" PVC.
