Okay, hunting through the Trading area in search of a Ratchet Blast or a Sawtooth (no luck) I began to wonder why guns I had when I was younger are very difficult to find, or often expensive to buy. I know the reason the mighty x-bow is so sought after, so you needn't fill me in on that.

Guns I'd like to know about:
Sawtooth
Ratchet Blast
AT2K (I semi-know, but fill me in anyway)
Maxshot (semi-know)
Secret Shot 1
Secret Shot 2 (semi-know)
Splitfire

I'll add to the list as the post progresses.

-I have a Sawtooth that I'm still in the middle of modding. Personally, I don't see why it would be real sought after. I mean, I like the gun and all, but there's no quality that really stands out to me like the Crossbow, other than the bolt action.

-I used to have a Ratchetblast as well, but it broke on me (plunger wall snapped off). I don't think it would be hard to get one off eBay. It's plunger tube is fairly small and it's turret doesn't work well.

-The Airtech 2000... I miss having an abundance of these... They're so useful. Not only are they a great primary, but they have so much integration potential. Their internals are small and easy to work, and they perform so well. I can always find a use for these. Though someone posted in the awareness thread that Big Lots! had them for sale... I might have to check that one out.

-The Maxshot is the Crossbow (or PlusBow) alternative. They're accurate, reliable and they shoot far enough. They're great springer primaries.

-Secret Shot 1... I have never used, held, or even seen one in person. I would imagine the second hold out shot is what would make them popular. As well as decent pistol ranges. That's what drew me towards wanting one until I got my Splitfire.

-Secret Shot 2 is the same as the SS1, never used, held, or seen one before. I hear they shoot far for a pistol. Though SM750s have great ranges as well. I never really understood how the SS2's secret barrel worked, so I don't know if that's another big quality or not.

Added Splitfire to the list.

There SF is so sought after because it is a two shot pistol that goes like 70ft. I really love SF's, they are so accurate and functional.

I guess you have some heavy duty industrial strength toilet paper holders. Do they advise you to wear eye protection when changing rolls?

As for the SS1, mine gets 75ft. I added a HUGE spring to it, but it is quite beat up, so I don't really care if it breaks, because my pistol splat is my secondary. I don't personally use the secret barrel, but I guess people like them because they look cool, and yes, they do get good ranges for springer pistols. I would pick one over a NF.

SplitFires are hands down the BEST side-arm you can carry. I really can't think of anything better. They are quite compact for two shots and get great ranges. Just pump it up, stick it in a holster and wait for some fool to rush you and then pull it out and blast him away. Quite fun. Back in the 90's when I only played with stock NERF blasters, SF's were still among the most powerful NERF blasters and I used one as my primary.

Yeah I wish mine hadn't broken. If you've ever used a splitfire you'll see why it's sought after.

IVe used one, I kinda liked it, but they leak sooo easily, and they are really hard to fix. In my opinion, the Pistol Splat or the SM750 are the best secondaries.

I don't know if they are the best sidearm, as thats more of a personal preference/depends on your primary kind of thing, but they are a damn good blaster. I think they are almost better as a secondary. I really liked the way it performed when it was on the bottom of my +bow, but it didn't work quite as well when I used it as a sidearm with my +bow. Then again maybe thats just my holster situation.

Glad you liked it.

Splitfires are just plain awesome. They're so versatile. As imaseoulman stated and Sam reiterated, once they're holstered properly, they're just SO comfortable. They're VERY intuitive to shoot, and are (as you might have noticed) incredibly comfortable when mounted under a primary.

At the same time, some of us (okay...just me) have a habit of slapping 2k turrets on everything, and Secret Shot 2's and Splitfires are no exception. Those two are rock-solid guns with excellent ranges in small packages.

The 2k...is basically the most versatile integration gun post-supermaxx line. In its standard configuration, it sports my favorite turret, and ranges in the upper 90's. Singled, it can hit 100's easily. Integrated...it still does.

What's not to love?

The Maxshot is simply a spring-powered 2k without a turret (unless you add one to it) that you can't integrate. Ranges vary, and tend to lack a little compared to the 2k, but not by much.

The rest of them in terms of modern foam warfare aren't so much sought-after as they are novelty items and/or hard to find. SS1's are good pistols, but not THAT good. Sawtooths are just fun, unless your name is Frost Vectron. Ratchetblasts just scream awesome, but conversions to modern darts (as far as I've seen) tend to fall on the less-than-appealing side of things when you look at the final product.

Well, I have two Secret Shots. They're cool, I guess. They sort of look like luger pistols because of the angled grip. The trigger placement, however, makes it difficult to spin the gun on your finger like a cowboy. I would probably use them more if I modded them, but right now I just mess around with them.

I also have 2 Sharpshooter II's. I like them more because it's much easier to aim the second shot. Plus, it's got like the most comfortable grip ever. It's just simple & smooth, no fancy/unnecessary markings or anything, and it makes the perfect grip.

Okay, the Splitfire is now completely understood, so you can stop chatting about it.

I still don't understand the Sawtooth or the Ratchet Blast. I owned and used both when I younger and I enjoyed them quite a bit. They were both incredibly powerful from what I remember because they had minimal ARs and big-ass springs.

I think just the whole cocking mechanism of the RatchetBlast is why it's sought after, although I don't really see as much attention for it as Splitfires, old NiteFinders, etc. Can't say much else about the other guns.

The sawtooth has a weak, squishy and small spring. I don't know how you heard that it was big-ass. I replaced mine with a First Shot spring.

The sawtooth stock wasn't that great, but it was one of the first nerf guns to have a clip for quick reloading, so back in the day that made it useful. It has a good durable frame so you can mod the heck out of it, and I've seen some crazy stuff done with it.

As for the Rachetblast? That my friend is one of my all time favorite guns. It had a unique cocking mechanism, that allowed you to recock it one handed. Four shots, and if you nested some cpvc or other barrel material inside the original barrels you could get excellent range. It is flexible in application, great for a quick rapid volley, or for aimed shots.
The one thing you never ever wanted to do though, is open it up. I made the mistake and it is by far the most difficult nerf gun to reassemble, ever.

The Secert shot 1 is great because you always have the second shot in the handle, or if you mod it you can have as many as 3 selectable barrels up front. Just a solid pistol all around.

The Secret Shot 2 has a bigger air tank than the SM2K/1500, and with a simple barrel replacement and air release valve plugging, is one of the most powerful pistols nerf has ever come out with. A great hand cannon and fun to play with.

The Sharpshooter 2 fun 2 shots, easy to mod, integrate or do what ever. Again has a nice beefy look making it another great hand cannon.

As for splitfires the only thing I can say is that imaseoulman is chronologically challenged, because these things didn't come out til 2000. But other than that yes they rock, though prone to developing leaks.

Good point, though "chronologically challenged" is a bit harsh, don't you think? I was in high school for the late 90's and first part of this century so I was just thinking of using a stock SF back in High school and thought it was late 90's (like 1999). So I was off by a year or two, but man, I must have bought it as soon as it was released, and then they must have disappeared from my local stores quickly because I never saw one again after that.

Any chance it was out by Christmas of '99? Because I swear I remember playing with it that winter.

P.S. I just checked the NERF wiki, and granted it's a wiki and could be altered, but it says 1999. Can anybody back me up on this? Wasn't it around before 2000?

J_Cobbers, if you are basing your information off of what is posted at NerfCenter, then it might be true, but I would believe anything that is posted in the NerfWiki as accurate. Though a Wiki is entirely user submitted data, it is constantly being reviewed by members that have been around for alot longer than most, speaking of which I need to look it over again.

The SplitFire was released in the 1999 sales season which rolls into 2000.

Badger, your darn skippy I used NerfCenter. Hell I was on that thing when it was still actively updated. I'll leave the wiki ta ya youngins, with your fancy internets (IT'S NOT A TRUCK IT'S A SERIES OF TUBES).

imaseoulman relax man I'm only teasing. I only clarified for the points of accuracy, and levity.

I'll be dating myself here, but the SF didn't come out til about my second year of college, and I remember the impact it had in my group of nerfers. That second shot without having to reload, recock or pump really helps.

As someone who has been around for awhile primarily as a seller, I can give you some insight on this:

Sawtooth: I believe this was the first clip nerf gun released. Back in the day this gave you a huge advantage over the single shot weapons.

Ratchet Blast: This was one of my favorite guns as a child. I recently sold one and regret it. It features a unique priming setup, a handguard, a scope and one of the best stock paintjobs ever found in a nerf gun. Pictures don't really show the shiny blue paint.

AT2K: Many people want this one for its ability to be integrated into other weapons. It has good ranges and a small internal setup.

Maxshot: Can be modded for decent range.

Secret Shot 1 and 2: These are some of the best looking and performing air pistols you can get. And unlike the SM series, they have better grips and look more 'gun' like. Although you would never be able to actually use the secret shot to fool anyone, it was still a nice feature.

Splitfire: This is hands down the best air pistol you can get stock. It has very good ranges and the ability to fire two shots either separately or together.
