That only barely qualifies as a writeup for a pump being as all they're doing there is making a new pump shaft for an existing pump housing.

To make a new pump for a nerf gun you'd need to go several steps beyond that writeup.

This is VERY basic, at best. To be useful, it would need to include a check valve at minimum. Also, I don't see the point of building a pump for a nerf gun out of 1/2" PVC; the best way to add volume is to increase the diameter of the air column being utilized. 1/2" is a pathetically small pump if you want to fill a good-sized air tank without breaking your arm. ~Rork

These pumps aren't very good for Nerf. Getting a seal with O-rings like this can be difficult. Wood is used with water guns because it expands when wet so it seals well. The 5/8 inch (okay, 0.622 inch) diameter of the pump shaft is also too small for Nerf. Water guns use higher pressures and the smaller pump diameter makes pumping easier.

I'd suggest using a bike or basketball pump if you want something easy. As was said previously too, the guide really is only for the shaft, seal, and rod portions. You'll need some check valves in addition, and they'd increase the cost a lot if you don't order them off the internet.

Buying the supplies to make a pump from scratch ends up being almost the same price as a cheap pump anyways. A decent pump includes two check valves, and those are difficult to make.

As said, a pump like this wouldn't work very well because it doesn't have a check valve. Personally I like these pumps I get at target. The large ones are only $5-6 and the small ones are $1.50, and they all have built in check valves.

You know, they have great dual-action aluminum-build pumps at Wal-Mart for only $5 each.

Actually, a small diameter pump would be great for a compact, higher pressure tank.

Hey Blasphemy have you ever used a dual action pump for a homemade before? I've always wondered how comfortable it felt.

I find it easier to just use a store bought pump. They have a few smaller ones that can be easily mounted on nerf guns with pipe clamps, which I happen to be addicted to. Something like this is more reliable and easier than most homemade pumps: http://www.walmart.c...duct_id=5750772

I'd rather save the time of making a pump that may fail by buying one from a local bike store or shopping center :/ I love those dual action nike pumps like the one boom used on his bruteshot mod so long ago. Ubuntu is funny, I recall the good old days trying to run steam games through wine... you get video, or sound, but never both xD
