I've been to my local Canadian Tire (department/hardware store), and they didn't know what it was. I'm planning on going to Home Depot soon, but I doubt they'll know what it is either. What is foam backer rod mainly used for? What section would I find it in? I'd like to know, becuase I need to start making micros. On another note, micros are 5/16th right? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sort of new to Nerf and I'm trying to pack all this information into my head in a short period of time. So if anybody could answer me these questions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. If this question has been asked and answered before, sorry, but I really don't feel like searching through 10 pages of forum posts or whatever. Especially on this shithole connection.

The backer rod is also known as Cualk Saver. The backer rod is put in cracks, where the cualk goes, and then cualk is put over it. So this way you do not waste a bunch of cualk in deep cracks but rather layer it ontop of the backer rod. Anyway, if you ask them for cualk saver, they might know what you are talking about.

Mike, we went through this. Home Depot doesn't know what it is. Building Box said it was old technology, and that "expanding foam" takes the place of foam backer rod. Basically, FBR is now too old to stock, and to the suppliers, useless. I wish we were in the U.S.A, because they seem to have an abundance.

Yeah, Mike, you know that we BOTH need to make our own darts... my hybrids, although excellent darts, cut themselves in half after repeated shootings into pizza boxes. Especially the box where we left Gino without a penis.

All in all, please, help us both. The whole caulk saver thing doesn't work, they believe both to have never had existed in the known universe. Which sucks for us.

Well, if Home Depot and other big stores don't carry it, find smaller hardware stores. They're more likely to carry "old technology", like FBR. Also, most employee's at large hardware stores don't have a clue what FBR is. Look in the weather proofing section of the store. It should be with all those peices you put on doors and windows to make them airtight.

Both of my local Home Depots stock FBR in the weather stripping aisle. If you see products of weather stripping by Frost King (or something I think, It's something King) then it should be right there. The guys have no idea where it is so you gotta know where to look. Hopefully this will save you hours of mindless wandering around the store.

PS. My local ACE hardware calls it "rope caulk." He knew exactly what I was looking for. He even asked me if it was going to be used for it's "intended" purpose. I just laughed and said "if I tell you I'd have to kill you"

I had a very hard time finding FBR the first time I went to get it Home Depot. It turns out that it is stocked in the doors section, becuse it helps to seal any cracks between the door and the wall.

Okay, so, weather stripping, or doors/fixtures? I will have a look today... it comes in 20 ft. rolls, I'm guessing? That's 96 2.5 inch darts... 96 is a wishful number... I would expect at least 20 darts get ruined, at least.

Would anyone know how much money I'm putting into this? Maybe $10.00? I do hope it isn't too expensive... Although, I'm hoping me and Mike can just find it in the first place.

Yes, about the average employee. When I asked about "foam back rod" I was replied to with an odd look, and "Sorry kid... Maybe you should go somewhere else." Heh, first, employees aren't really supposed to recommend other alternitives to their place of employment, and two, he snapped it at me so fast, I bet he didn't even think about what I had asked him.

I asked for the FBR in it's other aliases. and got only strange looks, and the occasional "Hey, I remember that stuff... It's too old to stock now, we have expanding foam if you want!" To which I replied "Do you want to make me some 1/2 inch diameter 20 ft. long foam cord?" And that shut him up...

Yes, so thank you all, we are going to try again... and I really hope I can start making darts. I seem to have a nack for modifying stock darts, to make very good bullets. And since I love making things the best I can, maybe dart making will become a hobby, like making penny bombs and my grenades.

Like OMC said, my Home Depot always has it in the weather stripping/insulation aisles. I usually buy "Frost King" brand.

I was at Home Depot the other day and looked at their FBR and it was running about 3-4 dollars US, so I'm pretty sure it will be under 10 bucks Canadian. Good luck finding it, I'm surprized it is now an obsolete technology in Canadian hard ware stores, I bet the cleark was talking out his ass.

Sorry I missed this topic. Go to a Rona/Revy/Revelstoke Hardware store. Proudly Canadian and such. RCR Foam Backer Rod, either near the other foam, near weather stripping, or around roofing or drywall. It's really quite arbitrary, but it IS in Canada, definitely the West Coast, and it's plentiful.

If you really get desperate, I can just send you some. But that's inane postage. Someone will have the material locally.

Thank you very much, all of you.

Yes, I have a Revy, Home Depot, Building Box, and a Canadian Tire, all within 4 minutes of my house.

Zero, you still have Ronas? Over here on the east coast at least, Revy bought Rona last year. My dad had a partnership with Rona, and he was told it more of a name change, because the companies are kind of intertwined.

Anyway, I'm going out with my dad for sure, and I'll replenish my stock of PVC fittings and 1/2 in. PVC. And I hope to god I'll find some FBR. I won't ask anyone, because when they say no, my dad gets discouraged and drags me out of the store. It's always his idea to ask... Yeah, I'll look on my own.

Now, I'm only allowed to choose two stores to check. Which is of the four above would you think is my best bet?

Thank you again.

I would suggest Revy/Rona and Home Depot. Those stores have always worked for finding FBR for me.

YES!!!

I found FBR! And it was at Builders Box. Of all places. I found it in weather stripping, quite hidden from plain view.

I found a 25' roll of 1/2 in. and it fits PERFECTLY in my copper barrels. I am so happy, it's freaky. Now, there was a 100' spool of it... when I looked at it, my dad basically dragged me away. I got the last bag, so I have to use it responsabley. There was also 3/4 in., 1 in., and I couldn't find 5/8 in. Too bad I guess, no megas for me.

My darts are amazing, I'm already breaking things! I think I'm getting the hang of it all... I'm going to put alot of time into my darts, to get the top performance out of them.

Thank you to everyone.

I guess this topic is done now, huh?
