My car gets about 26MPG, as confirmed by the site Rambo posted. I have tentative plans to drive down with Doubleshot and Varsity, and camp near the school, possibly with Crankymonky. I have yet to confirm the availability of campsites this late in the season, but I recall at least one of the sites I looked at last time was open year round.

Edit: this means I have 1 or two seats open, and plenty of room for gear. If someone from farther north wants to carpool, they can drop their car in New Brunswick for the weekend for free, or take a train to New Brunswick station if so inclined. The campsite won't be more than $25 total.

Count me in on this one, I should be very free that weekend. I'd absolutely be up for camping, mainly because it's way too long since I went camping last, and I definitely wish that wasn't the case.
I'd be coming from wherever I'd need to be, although Hoboken would be the most preferable option.
Horray for getting shit together ahead of time! Horray beer!

Fuck, this was a terrible idea.

Okay, here's how we're going to do this. If you posted in this thread and you want to drive, post "I'm driving" and how many more people you can take plus who you are already taking.

If you want a ride, post "I want a ride" and where you're from. If you already have a ride set up with someone, then just don't post.

If you are not 100% sure your coming, don't post yet.

Everyone should be expected to split whatever the bill is for gas.

So as of right now, I want a ride, since Rambo put as dickheadily as he possibly could, I can only comfortably fit 2 people in my car.

Talio.

I am driving. At the moment, Doubleshot, Varsity, and possibly Jlego are riding with me. I plan to camp Friday and Saturday night. Unless someone drops out, I can only possibly fit one more, in the middle of the back seat. If anyone else wants to camp but doesn't want to ride down in the Langleymobile, let me know right away so I can reserve an extra site.

Note the emote.

I can drive, but I would rather ride with someone else, probably OMC.

I'm driving and can fit 3 comfortably. Anyone close to me can let me know if you need a ride and we can figure things out. Right now no one is riding with me.

Talio, I can get you if need be. I can wake up early if I have to or get you at a midway point.

For those of you who are riding with me, and anyone else interested in camping, here are the options:

1.)Lake Fairfax Park. It's $25 per night per site, sites are limited to 2 tents and 7 campers. There's a shower, a swimming area and good parking for visitors if people want to hang out after the war. The problem is that you have to take the beltway to get pretty much anywhere to or from this campsite, so the trip to and from the field could take an extra 30 minutes or more just from traffic. The other problem is that they don't have a BBQ. I stayed here last DCNO, and overall it was okay.

2.)Little Bennett Regional Park Campground. It's $21 per campsite per night. They only allow 6 people per site and 2 tents, and they only allow two vehicles per site. They charge $25 for a BBQ, and $5 per car for visitors who aren't staying the night. This place is only about 20 minutes (30 with traffic) from the school, and is in the opposite direction from the beltway, so no nightmarish traffic possibilities. I've never been to this place before.

3.)Swain's Lock. It's totally free, but it's also first-come first-served, and you're not allowed to leave all of your stuff and take off for the day, so theres a possibility of not getting a spot on either night. This location has grills according to Crankymonky, and he has never had a problem getting a spot. The site is also very close to the field. It's about 20 minutes away along back roads which are never congested. I've seen the site while hiking along the canal path, and it's pretty nice. If we were going to camp here and couldn't find a spot, we could possibly go over to Little Bennett, and Lake Fairfax definitely does walk-ins, so we wouldn't be stranded.

I think Swain's Lock is a good way to go. However, if we can't get a spot there because it's full, it may be difficult for us to reserve more than one adjacent site at another place. It's only a problem if enough people want to camp that we'll need more than one site, and even then, it's not a major concern.

Edit:Updated the Little Bennett info.

Swains sounds fine, as long as we can get in. If not then we just go to whichever one is closer.

While I don't know what time you guys are getting in to DC, if it's late, I should be able to hold at least 1 site at Swain's Lock.

Should Swain's Lock not work, should that be what we decide, there are campsites at other locks within a few miles. I'll check exactly where

I want to stick with our plans. My car is good. You, me, Rambo, OMC can all fit comfortably. :) As long as your relatives are cool with having 3 cars in their driveway for the day, I don't mind driving one bit.

Wait, what's happening? We're ( me, you, Talio and OMC ) all meeting in Philly at Talio's place and leaving from there in your car? You're further south than Talio, so even though Philly is more central, I think we should meet at your place. Plus, Talio lives in an apartment, I believe, so parking might be a problem.

Attending this war is going to be hard without the carpool potential. I would like for someone to come with me to help with gas costs and to assist in keeping me awake for the ride. I can get Talio enroute easily and probably one or two others, depending on their location.

I just looked at the map and I am more positioned to get Talio than anyone else. He is literally directly in my path to DCNO.

Sorry I haven't filled you in a bit more on this. We're meeting at some of his relative's house in a city south of philly called Wilmington. They said it's alright if we ditch some cars there, but they didn't say how many. It's about a half hour drive there for both me and Talio. You and I can meet somewhere else too if you prefer and it's not too far out of the way. That same offer applies to Hersh if you're reading this. Anyone can also meet Talio somewhere, but you won't be leaving your car in Philly, I'd bet. :)

That works, I guess. I'm closer to Wilmington than Pittsgrove anyway.

Hersh, badger wants you to go with him to save everyone on gas or something like that cuz you're closer or whatnot. He's also trying to get Jlego to go with him. Which means that there's an open spot in both my car and badgers car, if anyone who we KNOW can meet us either in Wilmington or somewhere along the way between there and Pittsgrove/Elmer/Rosenhayn/North Vineland. Yes, that's all the same place. It drives my mail man insane.

Alright. How about us four finalize our plans on this one? Provided we can only drop 2 cars max at Talio's relative's house, with four people meeting up and taking 1 car down, we need to lose one car along the way.
The simplest options are for Rambo to drop his car at Hersh's place, and head to Wilmington with him, or for Talio to pick up Hersh on his way down to Wilmington.

From there we will have the choice of all four cars. No one seems to like Talio's, and I have to admit a subcompact car with 4 big guys and tons of gear won't be that pleasant. Rambo's CRV seems okay. I have a 5 seater Sonata, which gets 28 MPG and about 450-500 miles per tank, which should fit us all comfortably. Plenty of trunk space. I didn't see what Hersh has.

Anyway, the first choice (ditch which cars where) is going to narrow down the second choice (which car to take). But the third choice is going to be when we go down and how long we stay. I'm all for whatever anyone decides, but I just need to know soon so I can take off from my job (that I haven't started yet, interestingly enough). I don't think I'll mind the driving, but we'll see what everyone prefers.

Split, I don't think you're looking at the map right. Rambo and Talio are not close to me at all. It would be out of their way (not too far really for Rambo) for anyone to come up to me. I'm not sure where I'm staying yet so once I'll figure that out I'll let you know. DO NOT plan on me being a part of your travel right now.
