Hey Everyone
I just did a paint job. It didn't turn out the best because every time I put tape on the gun it peeled the paint right off. I waited till it was dry and got painting tape. I don't know whats wrong.
Thanks
1: Prime with Vinyl Dye, this is a special spray made for plastics, Vinyl Dye bonds to plastic instead of just laying on top of it. Then use regular spray or Krylon Fusion to go over. NEVER use Vinyl Dye over regular spray, it will peel right off.
2: Use blue painter's tape for marking edges, it's a special type of masking tape designed to go on easy and come off clean, I have never had a paintjob peel when using this stuff.
3: Allow paint to dry for at least 24h before taping, I know it may look and feel dry, but the undercoat almost surely isn't.
4: ALWAYS clear coat your paint job when complete. Use Krylon or Rust-O-Lium clear coat, you can pick Gloss or Satin finishes, this will protect your paint job and make sure that your hand doesn't rub the paint off. Clear coat is a special lacquer that is designed to protect and preserve paint colors.
A magstrike all taped and ready for final coat.
I applied black gloss vinyl dye to the base magstrike, allowed it to dry and went over it with Krylon Metallics Silver, then applied the blue tape, and cut it with an xActo knife to shape it correctly.
All that remains is to go over it with Krylon Fusion Black Gloss, and wait 24h to dry before removing the tape.
