There was a topic in this foum once with something about stefans. They had mentioned something about marker caps. A long time ago before i had even heard of this site i had modded my ss2. I read something about people using crayola markers as barrels to shoot micros.So i took a crayole marker and hollowed it out and everything. Then i thought about making theses into darts. I took the end with the cap, wrapped electrical tape around it and shoved it down the barrel. Pumped up my gun. PPPPOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. It sounded like a rifle. So i shoot At cardboard and shot holes right through it.
Just recently I took A marker cap from my markers that didnt work anymore. I thought hey i dont have to cut anything. So I wrapped electrical tape around the tip. I put it down the barrel of my homemade. I shot it down the road to see how far it would shoot. It went out the barrel and started fish tailing any spinning like crazy. I was like fuck. So i took my old larami darts that had the tips ripped off, and shoved in the end of the marker cap. I shot it again and it went straight and way farther that a stock dart. I pulled out some old whistling darts and looked them over and noticed that they all had cuts down th esides. So i took the tips of cleaned all the glue and foam off. I took off the tape from the tip off and stuck the whistling tip on and replaced the tape. I shoot it and it whistled just like i wanted it to. I thought well all the other nerfers put weights in the tips of their darts so why dont I. So i again took of the tape and the whistling tip, and hot glued a couple bb's into the tip and put a little hot glue over top so it wouldnt hurt as much. I replaced everthing and shoot it again. It went even further. Awesome.
I was thinking well you cant just buy whistling tips in bulk. Instead i thought about using a small piece of FBR over the hot glue otherwise this thing would hurt too much. I havent tried this yet because there is no store near me that sells FBR not even Canadian Tire or Home Hardware.

What do you guys think?

Heh, that reminds me of the time when me and a friend were shooting Crayolas in his room.

well we wear paintball goggles. So we dont need to worry about that.

If they can withstand a paintball being launched at them at 400 fps i think they can handle the power of a crayola dart.

You said something about shooting through cardboard? I say, who hasn't? You don't need a bloody plastic "bullet" to shoot through cardboard. I seem to be able to shoot through three layers, from 20 feet away with my SM5k, with five pumps.

Now, onto the debate. Think about this for a second. You said that if the goggles can handle paintballs travelling at 400 f/s, then they can handle markers. Now, do paintballs explode on contact with your goggles? I should hope so. Do crayola marker lids? I should hope not. My point being, you will break your goggles when shot with a marker lid, by a powerful gun. Paintballs, no matter has fast they are travelling, will explode, and will decrease the force at which it hits the goggles. That may not sound right to you mathematicians, so correct me please, I used it for lack of a better word.

Anyways, I believe that darts can travel at 90 f/s, or more, which is very fast for a piece of foam. Now, a marker lid weighs more, and is more areodynamic than a Nerf dart. I think the lid will break something, or injure some one.

Stick with the foam, because Nerf is about fun, without the blood. Although... it seems to happen alot. But anyhow, you will kill some one if you don't do something about the tip of that dart. At any rate, that thing is hard, travels fast, and doesn't explode. All the ingredients for an accident.

Do any of you recall 3DBBQ's darts? The ones with laser pointer tips, and BB weights? Those things not only look like bullets (props), but look like they might also hurt like one.

So, before you go trying to be Mr. Original super guy, making your amazing darts, think about it first. Would you want to be shot with those, protection or not? I wouldn't, although, it might be fun to shoot cans and bottles with them. So yeah, your goggles, although you trust them, may not hold up to these new darts. And also, what if you get hit in the nose, or the neck, or even your cheek? IT would hurt, and you would have a nice welt to show off to your friends.

Bad idea. Crayola markers are alot bigger than a paintball, and because they have more mass, they will strike with more force. Like SB said, paintballs explode on impact, and markers dont, so what makes you think that a plastic paintball with the same density, size, and weight shot out of a paintball gun will break through the goggles?

Oh and paintballs dont shoot at 400 FPS, anything past 300, and they explode when you shoot.

Hey, why not just fire batteries instead of plastic [/sarcasm]. I mean all you have to do is wrap a AA Battery in tape and you have an awesome dart. THAT CAN KILL/MAIM.

Yeah, I'll say.

Although, I've been thinking. What it you cut a piece of FBR about a 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch long, and glued it into the part of the marker lid where it reseeds a bit on the top. I measured it, and the foam would only stick up a little bit, but enough for a softened impact.

3 Minutes later...

Okay, I've done it. And with my homemade shells, this thing actually fires quite nicely. Straight, accurate, and fast. Now, it is noisy, but that can be fixed. I never thought I'd say this, but this might, MIGHT be a good long range bullet. With my foam tip, it retains it's "hitting power" in that you can feel it, but it hurts less than a glue tip Stefan. I shot it at my foot without a sock on, with 4 pumps on my SM5k, and it didn't hurt at all.

I am not really suggesting that this is a good "bullet", it might just be fun to eat shit pop cans with.

In the end, it works. The foam tip, I think is a good idea, because it no longer will hurt as much on impact.

Oh, and continue pointing out things wrong with this... like, IT'S DANGEROUS. If you don't make it like I did. Also, takes alot longer to make.
