The majority of the guns my friends and I use at our wars require ramrods to get the darts to the bottom of the barrel.

Most of the time, we simply use unsharpened pencils, but for barrels longer than 8", the dart just wouldn't reach to the bottom.

Granted, this is a small problem, but I found a solution that some might prefer over sticks and pencils. You guys will love this:

Magic wands! Awwww...

Ahem, anyway, I picked these up at six star for a buck each. They are ideal because they are over a foot long and have the little ball on the end as you can see in the second picture. Before I found this, I used barbecue skewers. However, the small tip would cause the dart head to move to one side or the other. The ball on the end of the wand pushes evenly on the dart and it fits into PETG and brass barrels.

Ok, ready for the mod?

Tada! Now you have a ramrod and a decorative piece to adorn the side of your gun. Of course, I suppose real men would just use the whole magic wand.

I lost my last one because it doesn't stand out very well, so I remedied with a coat of flourescent orange spray paint.

And that's it! A cheap and effective ramrod.

Use un-sharpened pencils. If you tape them together you can get a longer stick. They fit in my cpvc 2k turret.

Also, use Sailor Moon rods instead. It makes it more funny when you yell things before you shoot them.

Is it just me or would dowel rods make more sense? You can buy a 4 foot long one with a 1/2 inch diameter for less than $2 last time I checked.

Try using a wooden dowel. They come in every length you will ever need and require no time preparing them.

Ah, I forgot about wooden dowells.
That's true enough: 3/8" dowelling would work perfectly.

one of my friends had a gun similar but instead of using a dowl or some sort of rod he made it collapsable.... he could simply crack it open with some force and there it is.... its open... he used what looked like door hinge and alot of superglue.... the gun looked as if it wuz frankenstine (dont comment on bad spelling i WILL kill you or be be mad) and it shot quite nicely.... i dont know much of the details about it

Aw, thankie!

Very true. Although I do believe the wooden dowells are a bit tougher and will last longer.

I would have voted for keeping the frilly part on there too...

I make mine out of broken plastic Hangers.

works pretty nice. all you need is 2 quick cuts with a big pair of pliers.

You should mount the sparkly decorative part that you cut off the wand on the front of a gun, so you can have a magical fairy crosshair that combines functionality with daintiness.

I like it! We should keep some of those (complete with mini tiara topper) around for loaner ramrods, right next to our loaner goggles of shame for those who forget eye protection.

As long as there's a discussion going about alternatives for ramrods, I used to just grab a bic pen and tape the cap on for the day, so the pen clip would hold the ramrod on my pocket while running around.

Now I have a felt marker (with similar pen clip) that dried up, so I glued the cap on, and it sits in my pocket, and has a length of shoelace attached to it, the other end of which is tied to a nearby belt loop. I'll never lose my ramrod again, and it's always exactly where I want it to be.

I use the mighty Lego axle. 2 '12' technic axles connected by a spool link, with a technic ball joint at the end and hot glued togehter. I know, I'm a Lego nerd.

Hey, I'm the one with ~23.4 pounds of assorted Lego pieces sitting in a cardboard box behind me, so you could call me a Lego nerd as well *high-fives*!

On topic: When I did use a ramrod for my recon* (this was right before I got into modding,) I just used a wooden dowel. Nice idea turning a fairy wand thingamajig into a ramrod.

*: For some retarded reason, my recon wouldn't push the darts in enough when I primed the gun. As a result, I had to either use a ramrod or my little finger (depending on whether I had the barrel extension on) to push the dart ever so slightly back in the chamber. After I got into modding, I took out the air restricter (sp?) and that retarded black jam door, I didn't have this problem.

I used to use legos for ramrods also, until I forgot to take them out of the barrel, needless to say, there is still an axle fragment in my wall.

Only 23-ish pounds? You must be new at this. Try 17 gallons. Plus the stuff that won't fit. Something on the order of 85 pounds.

*On Topic*

You really can't beat a 1/2" dowel. Too narrow of a rod will puncture your foam... But 1/2" will slide down any barrel pretty perfectly.

I got more. 2 whole rooms filled with boxes. That's just at my mom's house! I have on box at my dad's. On topic though, you can make a fairy themed blaster with that piece on the end! That just inspired me to buy hot pink paint. Fairy longshot... The Pixinator...
