I did the restrictors but left the pins and got about 5 more feet, but still a terrible 25 feet for range

did the foam piston filler but used a chunk of foam from a pool noodle.
the straw is slightly loose and seems to help seal against the cylinder even better. edging closer to 30 feet range.

I noticed the cylinder gap where the piston assembly meets it was still showing daylight.
when I took the gun back apart and forced the piston part forward, it still didn't quite meet the cylinder.

after searching the database, I read where people were using the restrictor springs up front to force the cylinder rearward.

well, I've had the cylinder completely apart 3 times and didn't want to press my luck with destroying the orange tip!

I found a blister package and cut a penny sized disk from a flat spot. I then cut a slot from the edge to the middle of the disk, about half as wide as the metal rod down the middle of the cylinder. in the center of the disk I cut the end of the slot a little bigger than the rod. the disk looks like a keyhole basically.

all I did then was to hold the front pivot arm away from the cylinder and snapped the plastic disk onto the metal shaft.

after assembling the gun, the cylinder still functions fine and the gun shoots quieter and crisper, I have yet to check actual range. no daylight thru the gap either, the front of the cylinder has a raised ring molded in, If you make a disk, you need to make sure its bigger than that ring so it will shim the cylinder and not just sit inside that ring.

the only other thing I did was to modify the gun frame on the side opposite the front groove the cylinder locks into. I heated the plastic with a lighter then pressed it in with a screwdriver shaft, to make a half moon indent so you can slip darts in from the front without snagging. not much plastic to move, since the fake knurled round bit there is fairly low and out of the way already
the mod is not so important to me but handy for lefties

If this is your first gun ("And Good Results....finally") that would be great, but yet, with that phrase in your title, it doesn't seem like your first maverick modification attempt. Well I'm not sure what your final ranges are, since you didn't post them, so i'm assuming that your maximum range is about 30 feet. Well I just wanted to share something with you to see if this might help.
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Opened the gun
2. Opened the cylinder
3. Took out the AR's
(or you can drill 'em out, like I would do...if it's not a 2nd gen. Maverick)
4. Closed the cylinder
5. Roulette Modded it
5. Drop Clip Moddded it
6. Replaced Maverick spring with NF spring
7. Closed the gun
Due to me being stupid, I messed up a barrel so it only fires 5/6 shots.
Now the gun is a great secondary, and gets about 40' consistently.
------------------------------------------------------------
You could consider the above a "Mini Write-up," yet it doesn't tell you how to do things, it just tells you what i've done, so I don't consider it to be a "Mini Write-up," at all. EDIT: I put links on where you can find the mods that I did.

Well there's my input! Hope it helps!

P.S. The link to #5 is a youtube video of ice showing you how to do it, because when I read CaptainSlugs write-up I got a little confused, and pictures are worth a thousand words, so if a video is composed of hundreds of pictures, I guess a video is worth a hundred thousand words....not really.

EDIT: I've broken about 4 or 5 Mavericks, so this is either my 2nd or 3rd succesful Maverick Modification, i'm guessing the same for you?

Why replace the Maverick spring with the Nitefinder's? I thought the Maverick spring is stronger.

If that doesn't answer your question, then just for your information if you take your NF spring, and take your Maverick spring, you can see a big size difference. Also, the farthest i've seen a Maverick go is about 40', my NF, with just an AR removal can go 40'...with a barrel replacement can go 50+...
If that sounded mean, it didn't mean to be mean...

EDIT: 1st and 2nd gen. Mavericks seem to have a bigger spring then the other gen. Mavericks, yet neither of them have a bigger spring then an NF. (as i've seen, if you can prove me wrong, go ahead.)

it's my second mod, if you count sawing a broken mav in half as my first mod. :P
in hindsight I wished I kept the cylinder from it, then the dropmag mod would make sense to me.
I need to drag the mav outside and get a range to it, I got a feeling its going to be about 35 feet.

maybe I'm not getting it, but how is a gun that works 5 out of 6 shots an improvement?
I'm pretty sure if I'm shooting at someone, they're going to be shooting at me (I move like a wildebeast with gas, not fast and not quiet). I would rather hit them a little softer, than be standing there with my gun hung up. my biggest concern was keeping the gun as functional and as reliable as possible.

great idea linking the videos of the mods, makes it easier to understand it all. excellent write-up, I feel pwned and skooled all over :D

I would have to get another maverick to verify it, but I would have to say the biggest improvement I had was with closing the gap between the cylinder and the piston assembly. I can only assume that the variations in manufacturing would leave some guns with a bigger gap than is optimum, and that some guns might actually be too tight there too. that could explain timing and indexing troubles for some people.

I know my gun indexed better after moddifying the restrictors, I think it was from re-seating the orange retaining cap.

all the mods so far have been what I have found out here and I find the skills here excellent.

the only "hole" I've found is a sort of lack of troubleshooting. many mods have to be tuned it one way or another and that can be much harder than the mods themselves. experience is what helps there, you,ve learned a great deal from those past attempts and now you probably can do it with your eyes closed.
some poor noob like me is looking inside that gun for the first time, trying to figure out how it works!

I'm not saying I'm a retard, I've been building stuff since I was a little bean fart. but you still got that first time you do ANYTHING, whether its wiping your ass or burying your first dead hooker.

some people around here seem to think bullying someone around is the way to slap people into shape. doesnt work on me, heck I just screw up more to piss em off.
I'm not pointing at you at all, you're right on target and your argument is good and to the point and backed up well with examples.

I'm just flipping off those self righteous douche bags I've seen jumping on noobs in other posts ;)

<end of rant>
