First off I'm only assuming that this post belongs in this section. If it doesn't forgive me.

Anywhoo, I was inspired by Ice's 6th Longshot paint job. So when he told me what colors were used I decided to go ahead and open up my recon and paint it. Along the way I ended up modding it a tad. I removed the AR and did part of a mod by deaddumpster (wrapped e-tape around the plunger to make the spring compress more).

I haven't put clear coat on it yet, so it's not going to be used too much yet. I'll shoot a couple of rounds in the office when I'm showing it off of course  I will eventually get to painting the rest of the pieces but for now I'm happy with just the hand gun part.

Sorry for the shitty phone pictures:

Some Details

I used Games Work Shop paints (Red Scab, Tin Bitz) and I painted it after priming the gun with a cheap matte black spray paint. The red didn't turn out exactly how I was hoping, but it has this weird purpleish color that's growing on me. The color scheme reminds me of The Huntress. The actual colors used by Ice was Red Scab, Chaos Black, and Boltgun Metal. The store I went to unfortunately didn't have the Boltgun Metal, so I substitued it with the Tin Bitz.

After doing this mod it just makes me want to go out and buy a cheap Maverick. Steam Punk Maverick here I come! Tell me what you guys think.

EDIT:

Here are the rest of the pics

Nice! It's good to see someone coming up with quality work, instead of putting up yet another best-gun thread. It's clean, it's tasteful, and best of all, it still looks like a nerf gun. Way to go. And purple is always nice. ~Rork

Wow, nice job on the gun. It is probably the nicest, cleanest Recon I've ever seen.

I lubed it again and again, I don't see what an extra 2 centimeters does. I don't think I will cut it off.

Use capitalization and punctuation correctly.

I'm sorry, but 12 errors for 20 words means you fail 60%.

Great Recon paintjob. As much as I had to correct Ice'sspawn_1114 I have to agree. It looks great the way it is. I'm really digging the purple. I'm glad to see a paintjob that isn't flat black.

What a beautiful paintjob! I love the colors. People all too often slap black and gray on a nerf gun and call it a day.

I might consider using these colors to paint a few of mine. Maroon is my favorite color.

WOW! This is one of the coolest recons I have ever seen. I love the deep red and dark gold on it. It is also a VERY clean painjob. Next to VisionCloud's (which is just spectacular) this is probably the best Recon PJ I have seen yet. Great job, man.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

Because it's got all of the attraction of goth/industrial stuff, but with more style and color. Steampunk is all about style, coupled with bizarrely exaggerated versions of normal designs. It's also big in the colleges right now, and even though the DIY aspect is very important, some folks just have more money than artistic skills.

Also, nice job on the paint! Kinda looks like the purple from the crossbows... :)

Thanks for the comments guys. Guess I won't change it up anymore than it needs to. I did notice that the purple looks a lot like the purple on the crossbow.

I'm going to try and finish the rest of it tonight after I go out and buy some sort of sealant. Anything you guys recommend?

Just kidding. I love the gun and the purple looks great. Way better than my first mod.

You might want to get some Citadel Clear coat. That's kind of expensive though, but you know it's compatible.

I use krylon triple-thick clear coat on my guns and it seems to work pretty good. It's cheap too, $3 @ Wallyworld.

I like your paintjob though, very slick. Blacksunshine made a few maroon guns, this reminds me of those. It's a good color on nerf guns.

The sad part is that I began a steampunk maverick (complete with internal modifications and copper barrels) about nine months ago, but then became too busy to finish. Now I'll just look like some poser. *sigh* I'm also putting together a custom leather holster for it.

Heh, doesn't mean you have to stop making it. I doubt I'll get to a Mav anytime soon. Got to stop spending my money so frivolously. So far this gun + paints + extra clips + bullets = around $60. I should've just bought a Longshot! Although that may be a little too much for the office. I'll leave the big guns to the bosses.

Got some extra clips from Nerfsharpie, and some stefans (the first I've ever had in m hands). The gun seems to fire them fairly well. It works better when I load 2 stefans at once. I think I've decided to name her "The Huntress"
