From what I've been constantly hearing, the Recon's barrel extension does nothing but make the gun look cooler but makes range and accuracy worse. They've also said the same with the Longshot's shotgun extension.

Wait a minute.

Wouldn't the extensions actually help accuracy because of a longer barrel? Everybody seems to say that they have no positive effect on the gun's performance. But if the barrel of the gun is longer, why is the performance worse, not better?

Because you touch yourself at night.

But seriously, it's because they are not "proper" barrels. The stock barrels do not fit the darts, they are much too large. You are correct that longer barrels can add to accuracy, but that's only the case if they fit the darts. The faux barrel extensions just cause the dart to bounce around inside on their way out, and lower accuracy.

Well, With the Longshot "shot gun" so to speck is pretty bad by its self and when you attach it to the Longshot, Although if you intergrated the front gun (the shot gun) on the Longshot where the bipod is it is good rushing weapon, So it isn't bad but it isn't great

Actually, Frankie27 modified a recon barrel extension with aluminum tubing, so that it actually contacts the dart; just go here: http://nerfhaven.com...showtopic=12214

I understand the pressure enhancing value of a proper barrel but do the LS and Recon actually produce enough power to take advantage of the physics? Do any of the new generation springers for that matter?

I've always been under the impression that a barrel replacement will do wonders for the more powerful pump guns and some of the older weapons with decent springs but only added more friction to weak springers.

While on the topic where are all the Nerf pump guns? All they seem to make now are multi shot spring guns. Might br time to start converting super soakers.

If you add some stronger springs, you can increase the power of the LS, but I don't think it is enough to make a barrel extension worthwile. However, replacing the stock barrel with one that fits the dart better will improve the accuracy - due to no bouncing around on the way out.

As for where the pump guns are - Nerf doesn't make guns for modders - we mod them to make them better. Nerf makes guns for little kids to bug their parents to buy them in large quantities - therefore they make guns that kids will think are "cool". That is why we are seeing guns that look (slightly) more realistic these days. That is why we are seeing Nerf "Sn|per Rifles" and "Assault Rifles" in the form of the Longshot and Recon respectively. That is why we got the chain-fed, high ROF Vulcan.

Basically, in the past Nerf guns were cool just because they could launch a foam projectile at people without hurting anyone. Now, they are getting more and more like the guns these kiddies are seeing in their video games. It is what they want, and it is what they get. It really is all about the money.

The reason that we like air guns is because they have power to spare. Hasbro, on the other hand, doesn't care about power beyond about thirty feet - in fact, it's detrimental to them because they have to restrict it down. Spring guns provide all the power they need with the greater ROF that their target audience wants. Hence, no single-shot dart-firing air guns. The Magstrike, SMDTG, Titan, and Hornet use air power where springs wouldn't do the job.

"douche bag Rifles"

I like this.

WHAT? Going from 50' to +-90' after brassing a Longshot (and putting in another spring), I think that's worthwhile.

I was kind of doubting it too when I first got mine, and just after taking out the ARs I was shocked at the size of the plunger and the speed and amount of air it can shove out of the barrel. The modded brass breech and barrel helps both range and accuracy by keeping the air behind the dart rather than the stock barrel being too loose and letting the air exit around the dart. And trust me, the Longshot can push a lot of air. The actual stock barrel for the Longshot is just a +-3" tube, and the rest of the barrel in the body is nothing more than an air restrictor.

Nerf still sells the AT3k in pairs at Canadian TRUs, and AT2k in pairs in the USA. Hornets and Spider-Man Dart Tag Gun sets are still available (although the Spideys are getting rare). In fact I know a guy who goes nuts with Hornets; he put the guts of an entire one on an off-brand clip shooter (can't remember the name, I think Photon Blaster), and another one on his carbine Longshot. They are all great guns (until they start leaking).

Personally, I'd kill for a single-pump magazine-fed air gun. Something similar to an AT3k in that it will chamber the next dart when you prime it and it only needs to be pumped once, so the pump will function much like the Longshot's bolt action. I would imagine they could make one the size of a Recon, except get AT3k ranges... (/daydream)

I mostly meant extending the barrel of the LS beyond where the stock barrel ends. Replacing the barrel is definately a boon, but giving it a 3 foot barrel extension to make it look like the sn|per rifle from Halo just isn't worthwhile.
