a normal made stefan wont even travel 150, at the certain point they stop do to their design as I recall. There was a thread about it a long time ago. Maybe it was 200ft where it just wont go any further, I dont recall... but I know there was a limit to the dart.

Christ you guys are all assholes, stop ragging on him for his "ugly" gun. It isn't even ugly, the barrels were well done, much better than mine certainly. I mean yea the tank is huge but the mod looks cleaner than 90% of the duct-tape integration monstrosities that half of you people post anyway.

84-92 feet is perfectly believable for a brass AT3K and good darts, maybe at a SLIGHT angle or with the wind. Thats about what ours all do out here. Not quite as far as a brass AT2K, 1500 or Splitfire but farther than most everything else. The AT3K isn't meant to be a "range" gun anyway.

So he tried an idea (which he never claimed was original-asshat) which didn't really work, it's not like we all havn't done the same thing countless times. I mean for Christ's sake, don't even ASK me about Wolverine.....

My advice is to saw off the extended tank, cap it off and seal it, and go on using your otherwise well-modded AT3K.

Thanks for not flaming me like everyone else. So what you saying is to just cut most of the extended air tank off and just leave enough to put another endcap on? I think I might do that, I just wanted to try the extended air tank out.

Also, how did you do the anti-skip mod on you at3k. My seems to skip sometimes and I was wondering if you could tell me how to do it.

Thanks

Ok the anti-skip mod is really easy to do, but hard to explain. Next time I have to do it I'll get pics, but I hate opening the AT3K up. Here it goes:

When you open up the gun and pump, you see the white piece at the end of the pump. The white piece has this little "ramp" which pushes a latch as you pump which rotates the barrels. With me so far? Ok well the objective is to increase the height (but not size) of the ramp. To do this you'll need a piece of wood, about 1/4" thick. I used a balsa wood ruler, balsa wood is probably you're easiest bet. Paint stirring sticks are probably thick enough as well. You'll want to trace onto the wood the shape of the ramp (it's kind of a rectangle, but one end is a bit wider), and cut out that shape from the wood. You then take that piece and glue it (I like plumber's goop, but any strong glue will work, not elmers or hot glue) onto the ramp, right on top of it. So it's a sandwidch of ramp-glue-wood. This way you increase the height of the ramp so that it will push the latch all the way up SOONER as you pump, and push the latch higher than if the wood piece wasn't there. Following me? Basically the goal is to get the latch to be moved a greater distance so that when you're pumping fast and have heavy brass barrels, the latch won't just click back in it's normal position. You're just improving the ramp's efficiency at pushing the latch piece up.

If this isn't clear let me know and I'll try to explain better.

I think I understand. But, how long did you make the piece of wood that you glued on?

...when you fire the gun the valve opens momentarily and then clicks shut again (thats why the trigger "clicks"), so you'd have to mod it to keep the valve open as long as the trigger is depressed.

Maybe I'm not thinking of the same thing you're talking about, but don't most pump gun valves stay open as long as you hold the trigger back? It's a pin with a stopper at the end, that has a spring that keeps it closed while you pressurize it. Then, you pull the trigger which pulls the valve pin through the valve, and pulls the stopper from the barrel end of the valve. The illustrious Zero Talent has some pics of the standard Supermaxx/Airtech valves on his website. Otherwise, I may be totally on the wrong track here, I'm not quite sure.

<<EDIT>> I proceeded to ask Talio about this and he pointed out that what I'm thinking of are the generic single-shot gun valves from the SM750, SM1500, AT2k, etc. My bad... I only could manage to get enough screws off my AT3k to pry the pump out of it and plug it up. I never got a chance to look at the inner workings of the valve very closely. it's strange that the 3k's valve does that. Any way to remedy?

So would it be preactical to give the at2k a small extended air tank? Or should I just do the normal mods ato it?

That's exactly what they are saying.

The "extended airtank" mod works very well on the AirTech 2000, because of it's valve design. What we are suggesting is that you stay away from the airtank extension on the AT3k because of it's odd valve design. We know why it is designed differently, it is made that way because of all the barrels it needs to fire out of. Now, like Spoon said, really the only mod for the AT3k, other than the barrels, is this anti-skip mod, which sounds really really cool.

Yeah, that happened to me, too. As much as I tried, I could only get about seven screws out because the heads kept wearing down. Eventually, I had to hacksaw it open.

I think I understand. But, how long did you make the piece of wood that you glued on?

Well you see the piece of wood is the SAME exact shape as the plastic ramp, you just cut it out like a pattern and glue it on. The thickness of the piece of wood is what makes the ramp "higher", see what I mean?

One other minor note, on the bottom of the ramp, the side closest to the trigger, you want to cut the piece of wood about half a centimeter short of the bottom edge of the ramp. Otherwise I found that the plastic catch piece can sometimes get stuck on the way back.

Regarding the AT2K, you're right because of what Sylent Blade said. The AT2K's trigger holds the valve open as long as the trigger is pressed. Though you'll need a long and/or tight barrel to take advantage of the extra air volume. The AT3K's valve gets closed when the trigger is pushed in all the way. This also resets the rotation latch piece, so you can't just "turn it off" without breaking the rotation mechanism. All of this is a lot easier to understand when you have the gun opened up and just look at how it all works.

Ugh, and don't even get me started on the screws of the AT3K. God that gun is the absolute hardest thing to open.

If the oversized tank is REALLY a bother, is cutting the PVC halfway down (or farther) and putting a new endcap on it REALLY going to be that difficult?

Didn't think so...

Nice job. Very clean.

Why the hell did you revive this old of a topic, Falcon? Sorry, I have nothing else to add.

You didn't do that on purpose? How did you get confused that Janurary 2004 is October 2005? What?

You didn't stop posting after the gratuitous "OMG this thread is sooo old" post? How did you get confused into thinking this thread needed further commentary? What?
