I'm first class, but I only need a few merit badges to advance.

What troops are represented here? I'm in T126 (Long Beach, CA).

Yep, Eagle here, got it just after my 14th birthday. To those of you who aren't eagle yet, DO NOT wait untill your 17th, 18th birthday like some of these idiots, that's just ridiculous.

While I completely agree with your advice, I disagree with your conclusion and I take offense at being called an idiot for "waiting" until just before my 18th birthday. That isn't a very polite attitude. I had other things that took up my time while I was a Boy Scout - I didn't do it as my only extra-cirricular activity. Because of that, and a few other factors, my progression through the ranks was slower than some. Yes, you can get your Eagle much earlier than 17 years and 363 days, but choosing to pursue other interests at the same time does not make one an "idiot", or their choice "ridiculous".

I'm still just as much of an Eagle Scout as you are, and as an added benefit, I did other things as well and broadened my horizons beyond what the BSA had to offer.

I think you might need to be reminded of the Boy Scout Law:

A Scout is...

...Trustworthy
...Loyal
...Helpful
...Friendly
...Courteous
...Kind
...Obedient
...Cheerful
...Thrifty
...Brave
...Clean
...Reverent

Same here.
Let's see, I went to Philmont twice, I got my Ordeal and Brotherhood, became the OA troop rep for 3 years, finished high school early, started college, and had no less than 5 potential projects fall through.
But I still got my Eagle, and yeah, I wish that I could have gotten some Palms (I have 45 badges), I have no regrets.

I know this is a pretty bad necro, but it's prevalent to the topic. Sorry Talio, Groove, VACC, or Slug [whichever one of you chooses to ban me.]

Departing for Philmont tonight. I'm looking forward to it. Anyone else been to the Scout Ranch?

That is all.

Going to be too late for a response, but learn everything you can there. Its an amazing experience.

This goes out to all you younger scouts who are on the fence of going to a summer camp: Do it. During a week of scouting you will learn more then a year back at your home troop. Boo Hoo, you miss your TV shows and computer games. Go catch a fish, cook a fire, and eat it. Thats something you wont forget.

I agree with Muttonchops. My first summer camp was filled with mixed emotions of home sickness and enjoyment. Over all it was a good experence. All going regardless of the camp will have a good time. Also to all first time campers try to do as much of the packing and set up as you can by your self. it mite seem annoying and useless now, but in the longrun it will help you.

Philmont ain't a summer camp. Its 2 weeks of hiking around New Mexico. Its nothing like you have ever experienced before.

Congrats Bobafan!

I earned eagle in April '04 and worked for the next four summers at Camp Falling Rock Boy Scout camp in Newark, Ohio. Although I didn't work this summer, I volunteered for a week, teaching Rock Climbing merit badge. During the week, I survived a 40 foot free fall when one of the scouts belaying me failed horribly during his skills check. I'm actually still suprised I am alive.

Interestingly enough, scouting was my main influence to major in Adventure Rec. and now it looks as if I'm going to be doing all of the same sort of activities professionally.

Huge coincidence, this thread is, as I just came back from camp today. Sorry, Joe, but Falling Rock had some of the worst food I have ever eaten. The MB program wasn't terrible, but we didn't come back again, this year. EDIT: Oh, shit! Terrible Necro! Bad, Bad...

Troop 205. I'm pretty new, so I'm only Tender Foot, though, I've got almost every requirement for 2nd class and quite a few requirements for 1st class. I'm going to Philmont next summer.

I'm wondering how many of you guys went to the National Order of the Arrow Confrence this past week?
I know russ-t-bullet, yoda, one of my clan mate who's not yet a member, someone from bobafan's town who mods but is not a member, and myself. If anyone else was there let me know I think it would be awesome if more of you went. Also I talked to quite afew people about nerfing there and some are actualy going to start, considering they asked me about it when they saw me carryin a modded nerf gun through the dorms.
