I was pretty close but not that close. My project was finished a month before I turned 18 and I had one or two merit badges to finish in that time. I was a lot more worried about bitchy merit badge counselors than the local Eagle board, so once all the merit badges were done I was relieved.

Langley's experience sounds nearly like what my brother did. My brother had everything done except for the board of review for a long while before his birthday. He forgot about it but eventually realized that he was running out of time. He had his board of review a few months before he turned 18. No time for Eagle palms, even though he accrued enough for two. Serves him right.

Yeah, I have 40 MBs, so I could've gotten palms if I hadn't waited so long to do my project(5 years).

Anyway, suggestions for a project I should do?

I would suggest finding something school related. I made Tree I.D. signs for my schools wildlife habitat.

I never made it past Life Scout because we moved too often to get an Eagle Project set up and accomplished. Then by the time I was 16 I was HEAVILY involved in extra-curricular activities, leaving my house at 5:30 AM and leaving shool around 10:00 PM. I often regret not attaining Eagle rank because of the doors that opens, but I learned more about scouting than any Eagle I've ever met.

I got my Eagle in 2006. I ended up getting a bronze, gold silver and second bronze palm. I am also going to national jamboree in 2010 but as a third assistant scoutmaster. It should be fun.

So many boy scouts here is surprising to me as well. I am a boy scout, and will be star after my board of review this Wednesday.

Congrats Bobafan!

I earned eagle in April '04 and worked for the next four summers at Camp Falling Rock Boy Scout camp in Newark, Ohio. Although I didn't work this summer, I volunteered for a week, teaching Rock Climbing merit badge. During the week, I survived a 40 foot free fall when one of the scouts belaying me failed horribly during his skills check. I'm actually still suprised I am alive.

Interestingly enough, scouting was my main influence to major in Adventure Rec. and now it looks as if I'm going to be doing all of the same sort of activities professionally.

Congrats Bobo, but I feel so ashamed of myself. I quit boy scouts after a little under a year of it. :) It was so tough balancing baseball, and boy scouts, but then when I transferred to a private school, where it was a lot tougher, I lost it. My grades fell horribly. (I was an A student on the test, but I dropped to a C- student) I had to drop one thing. Baseball, or Scouts. I chose scouts. I'm really in to baseball. I want to play in High School , hopefully college, and someday, if I train hard enough, and do my best in school, go pro. I earned about 6 merit badges in that year. One of them the rifle merit badge at Boy Scout Camp. And, in boy scouts, I was so overwieght, and still short, so I was all fat, I never would have passed the physical parts of boy scouts. Oh well...

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

I got my Eagle on 12/20/01 in Troop 55 in Santa Rosa, CA. I was an Assistant Scoutmaster with the Troop through 2007, but between working on the Bachelor's and work, I don't have the time at the moment.

My project consisted on designing and building portable (collapsible) aviaries for the Bird Rescue Center. The highlight of the project was when I had a neighbor (never did find out which one) called Social Services on us because they thought we were taking advantage of child labor. :D

I'm surprised to see so many people are involved. I finished cub scouts and then I tried two boy scout troops, but they didn't do anything. Literally. In the one we played manhunt for entire meetings, the other one really only met once a month, at best. I guess I was just unlucky.

No, Rambo, Troop 17 did the same thing...

I always messed around all meetings because it was so... badly run. The leaders did nothing, except talk and east doughnuts (no lie).

The only fun part of BSA was the summercamp at Mt. Allamuchy and the Canoe trips.

I'm glad I quit after becoming First Class, I have much better things to do on Wednesday nights now...

Wow. There are a lot of scouts here. I was active in it when I was younger, but like most children, I lost interest. I didn't/don't really like the whole group part about it. I like doing camping/survival/scout stuff in general alone, unless I need someone to help/teach. I pretty much knew ever thing that scouts tought me,That and my troop leader was a douchebag.

I got my Eagle on June 27, 2003 along with a bronze and silver palm. Like Captain Slug I kind of got screwed out of my last palm. If my life wasn't so busy with college I would really like to volunteer with a troop but oh well.

Thats cause the scouts are suppose to run everything. Ideally anyway.

I'm also an Eagle scout, with Bronze and Silver palms, I think.

Star Scout, been SPL. But I'm a cul de sac, not enough drive or time to get to eagle. Mainly because in high school i don't really participate in BS while it's marching or winter percussion season, which cuts out half of the year. Hopefully I make it to Life Scout. I just need one more eagle-required MB.

It's a great experience, hands down.

Philmont was great, Sea Base sounded like a lot of fun (my friends went).
Jamborees-I went to Taiwan Jamboree and International Rendezvous same year as Philmont (Summer 07).
Hopefully this year I'll go to Northern Tier. Maybe eventually another trip to Philmont.

That is true to a point. However, sometimes you have a situation where there are no responsible older scouts to "run everything", and the adult leaders need to step in and fill the void at that point. When I started out in my Troop, there had been a distinct lack of new recruits in recent years, so that my (two-years) older brother was the only scout between myself and the half-dozen or so 17-year-olds in the Troop. When they all turned 18 and left the Troop to go off to college/etc., we were reduced to the "Skeleton Patrol" which consisted of myself, my brother and one other boy (the Scoutmaster's son), none of which were experienced enough to be running the whole show. So our dads took up the slack that should have been held by older scouts, and made sure we got the experience we were there for. When we got older, and our Troop grew out of this funk, we were ready to assume the mantles of leadership, and the Troop flourished because our dads had cared enough to step in when needed.
