Well, since we got kicked off campus and officially disbanded, the remaining active nerfers here in Cincinnati are planning to host an outdoor war this fall. It's not too far away, but here are the details.

LOCATION: Boone Woods Park, Burlington Kentucky

Directions:

6000 Veterans Way
Burlington KY 41005

-Get on I-75 and get off at Kentucky 18 (Should be something like exit 182)
-Head west on KY18
-turn right onto Veteran's way (it's a couple miles up the road)
-Continue all the way to the back of the park. You should reach a dead end, and see a massive wooden fort off in the distance.

DATE SET: SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 13th

Time: 9am-whenever

Rules/Regulations:

Standard rules, no singled titans, sm5k's, the like. We'll test it game day on you from point blank range to see if it's usable. Protective eyewear is strongly recommended, as this isn't a huge field. The fort makes for very interesting and dynamic scenarios. Game types will vary, I'm open to suggestions.
As usual, bring water (not sure if there is a drinking fountain, but there are restrooms), guns, ammo and anything else you think you'll need.

It's a long story... an issue with UC officials not liking objects that look like weapons on campus, potential safety risks, etc. We're having administrative meetings with them currently, hoping to get back up and running for fall quarter.

I didn't take pictures of it, (those above are mine) but there's another much more typical jungle-gym (steel pillars, plastic walls, small slides, etc.) of sorts about 70 feet from the fort, which makes for some really interesting CTF matches. There are no water fountains, but one could refill water bottles at the sink, in the lavatory if so desired. The fort is on a hill, that slopes down on the same side as the tunnel entrance, and large open fields surround the area.



P.S. bpso86, Swong will be there as well, she was at my house when this was being organized and should be able to get the day off work.

I just checked mapquest, and this is only 1:30 hours away. So I can definately get ovewr there plus 1 or more.

My dad is a maybe. If I could get a ride from Cincinnati or maybe watch a baseball game, I have a decent chance.

I'll try to make it but not sure if my parents will let me since its on my bday. But if i come i might bring 1-2 people dependant upon if I come with bobafan or not. But any ways awesome location.

My main problem is getting there (and back).

Anyone going to be passing through the Athens/Ohio University area or anywhere near it?

Is the park's address. It's a very large park, once you get there, you have to drive along the main road for a while,just keep driving until the main road ends in a parking lot, you should see a sheltered area right in front of you (don't go there, as another group has already reserved it, instead go to the top of the hill, left of the shelter, to the fort.



bpso86, you should probably add the address to the first post, for simplicity. In addition, the park opens at 8am; perhaps we should start the war earlier, to give us a better chance of getting to the fort before it's overrun with parasites.

I think this might be my first war... I'll probably get my drivers license by then and if my work is still open (coney island for those that are around cincinatti that know of it) I can probably get the day off. I'm a maybe.

Agreed - and I'd be there in a heartbeat if I wasn't flat broke for the time being - no way I can pay the $5000.00 in gas it would take to get me there. (I'm stretching the truth there, but only a little! )

Yeah I might too. I should be able to come still but my knee needs to recover but it's still almost a month away. How far is point blank? Should we bring stefans? If so how many? Are CS style allowed because they sting a bit?

point blank range: Close enough so that missing the target is unlikely or impossible. -thefreedictionary.com

Don't worry about a cup guys. Most cuts of pants will absorb the impact before the dart is able to hit a cup.

You definitely need to bring your own stefans. For one, you are sure they fit your barrels and also, I don't think bpso wants to make thousands of darts for everyone attending. As for number, I would say 100+, but it depends on your guns and how you play.

You can bring any darts you want as long as they won't cause unnecessary injury to the target. Fire, explosives, and anything sharp on the darts are unacceptable.[/humor]

And reading the etiquette article might be a good idea.
