Has anybody toyed with the idea of using a back pack to store an extra long ammo belt for the culcan? You could cut a whole in the bottom of the bag for the belt to come out of and then feed into the breach.

Well, you could store belts in your backpack, but you could'nt feed them into the Vulcan from your backpack. The gears in the blaster don't have that much strength to pull a chain longer than 25. You can do a 50 chain, but that is pushing it. The gears have a lot of stress put on them, and there is a small part that breaks a lot when you put too much stress on the gears. But if this is'nt what you were thinking of, try to be a little more specific. Or, were you talking about single fire mode?

After connecting the belts, I left the top of the ammo box open and let the belts feed that way. Only a few darts actually fired straight with the 50 shot belt, and it was obvious the extra weight was hindering the way the gun fired.

Add a catch box on the extruding end to hold the weight of the chain off the gears.

I am sure it is possible, but you would just need them to have more torque, to pull the belt up. I bet you could get an idea of how to do from Captain Slug's Maverick mod. It tells how to stregnthen the rotation mechanism, which I am sure could be applied to the Vulcan.

A simpler idea than modding the gears would be to create a sort of "table" for the chain so that the Vulcan wouldn't have to pull the chain against gravity.

Or you could relocate the chain box to use gravity to help feed.

Unless you had it constantly feeding enough slack I don't believe that it'd work. It probably be safe to just carry the backpack and keep extra chains in it then feed them into the original ammo box when you run out.

Idea: Instead of merely a feed table, what about a feed chute going from an ammo bin of belts to the gun? I was thinking of a setup along the lines of this guy, but instead linking the chute from the side up to, say, a retrofitted wastebin worn on your back with linked belts coming out the bottom so that the belts would be either gravity-assisted or at least on a parallel plane to the feed chute.

To hold a big-ass vulcan belt, you need a big-ass vulcan box.


This one holds 75-100 rounds, but it's rediculously heavy. I'm working on a tripod mount for it (a real one that sits higher that a foot) for use in CTF / Defend the fort games.

You don't have a catch box? The output without a box is putting just as much stress on the gears as the input without a box. Just like the gears have to pull all that weight up from the input, it has to hold the entire output without slipping.
