This is a follow-up thread for the dollar store gun that Exis first reported on in the mods section here. I was looking around the mall that I work at, and discovered a store called "A Dollar" right below the one I work at. I checked it out, and after rummaging through various crappy crap, I found 4 of these "Mini Bullet Toys Gun" ... guns. Here is what they look like in the box. (P.S. excuse the sub-par pics.)

Not too special, but Exis reported some good ranges with it. Many people mentioned Nerf's Lock 'n Load. It definately feels a lot different in your hand. I don't know real well, but the LnL has a much nicer feeling handle and trigger. Part of this could be attributed the the fact that this Chinese company that makes 'em didn't use the highest grade plastics, but hey, they work. Here is a pic of the LnL and the $ Pistol side by side.

Very similar in size. They also both shoot mega-sized foam darts, but the $ Pistol's darts are 2/3 the length of Nerf Megas, and less standardized in size. Some fit loosely in the barrel, others you can barely shove down. This makes the gun not very dependable. Its darts also have a larger suction cup than Nerf's. Here is a pic of the internals of the 2 guns.

The trigger mechanism of the $ Pistol is insanly simple and really cheap feeling, which lends to the crappy feel of the trigger. The handle and trigger are small, which might fit some hands more than others. I didn't like the feel of it when I first started using it, but when you take off the orange pieces on either side it feels more solid. I tried putting each gun's plunger rod in the other's (kinky huh) and amazingly they fit each other perfectly. That is to say, they have the same plunger tube diameter. However, the length is not the same. Refer to this picture for clarification.

Alright. That about rounds out my comparison. I should probably get around to modding the Dollar pistol some time, but I've got lots of other projects on my mind too. Any questions or comments are appreciated.

Yes, how well does it perform out of the package? Not just range, does it have a "cheap" feel to it, or does it actually feel rounded out?

Thanks Janga! My friend has my LNL and I couldn't do any comparisons. I agree with most of what you said, but what you left out (although not a material measurement) was the PRICE. I'd rather pay $5 including modding work for a slightly lesser-grade pistol than $25+modding for a slightly better one. That's your choice, though.

I'm also happy to hear that A Dollar is carrying them generally. I was getting a flood of orders, and it would be nice to have some other sellers for people to turn to.

Thanks again!

Well the last time I looked in my dollar tree they didn't have those. I need to check somethime soon, probably when i return a shopping cart to a store (It was broken so I took it out of their trash( ahd some good down hill rollin')). Any ways I might become another supplier if they stock 'em regularly. well they look schweet.

Okay, the range for me was 30'-45' flat, depending on the dart. The larger ones shot farther. However, regardless of whether or not this is better than a stock LnL's range, I would by no means say that the accuracy is as good. Perhaps it was just the darts, but I think the overall quality is to blame. That's not to say that its raw power couldn't be harnessed, as Exis has proven.

Due to the cheap plastics used, it doesn't feel as sturdy or dependable as an LnL, even if it outperforms it. After you take off the orange handle fringe, it is a little more rounded out. I still find the trigger to be crude feeling. But like Exis said, even $5 would be a great price for a weapon like this. *You don't have to pay $25 for an awesome spring pistol.*

O snap. I just went to the dollar store yesterday to see if they had some last minute bling bling for my tree and I saw one of those guns. Actually, i saw about 5 of them. I was gonna pick one up but i thought it would just be a waste. The cheap plastic of the gun could be painted or wrapped in tape just to add some wieght to it, and a whole new spring could be added. Hmmmmmmmmmm.... Well, I'll see what you come up with Jangadance, I hope it turns out to have some potential. Good coparison with the LnL.

Does "A Dollar" have a website?

i think we really need a section for cheap-o-guns [a.k.a. these $5 guns] because i just received a cheap [$0.99] nerf gun for xmas that my dad said "its just something stupid, i dont know if it works, i dont expect it to..." and its a nice piece of weaponary....

I was going to post a review but do you guys seriously want to keep hearing about cheapo guns and where you can get them from.... I suppose if so we should really start a specialised [specialized for u yanks] forum category for these...

jsut and idea...
