i was wondering what a good nerf gun would be for a beginner in nerf. i already have a longshot with mild mods, and a destroyed recon. i wanted to know what you guys thought of cheap (under $20) guns that are easy mods and relatively good ranges (at least 30 feet).
thanks in advance

Night Finder
Disk shot (expansion pack if you want just the gun)
and IMO the best Nerf blaster that can be had for 20 and is easily modded is the BigBadBow

Now you can also pick up a Buzz Bee Big blast and with some simple mods you will easily reach ranges of 100+. They only cost about 10 bucks if you can find um.

Forgive my spelling and grammar. I post from my cell phone a lot. Sometimes when I'm on the can at work.

I agree with Blacksunshine.

A Discshot or a Nitefinder, I prefer the Disc Shot because I like the shell more than the Nitefinder, and I found a couple on clearance for $6.

I love my BigBadBow. Easily modded because you get pretty decent ranges with just a barrel replacement. I haven't even opened the half that contains the plunger, and I get anywhere between 60' and 70'.

I get all giddy when I see VACC browsing a stupid topic. I just know someone is going to get banned.

Ditto to all of the above.

The nightfinder is a very good/inexpensive beginner gun to mod and use. Take out the AR, put a second NF spring (or some other similar spring), slap a coupler on it, and you're good to go. Anywhere from 50 to 70 ft, if modded correctly. Welcome to the Haven!

Regarding mods, I agree with the above posts.

If you're looking for something to use stock, mavericks are a good choice.

Yeah but he said something that gets above 30 ft. I'm pretty sure the maverick only gets about 15.

But anyway on topic, I would pretty much agree with everyone above except I would get a magstrike, since that was my first primary, and its pretty easy to do basic mods on it, and you get pretty decent ranges with it too.

P.S. Thanks In advance for above average grammar, you have no idea how much easier it is to respond and understand a topic when spelling and punctuation is correct.

Good point, a maverick has a great capacity and rate of fire for its price, but it does not shoot 30 feet, at least not stock.

The Nightfinder and BigBadBow or BigBlast are pretty much exaclty what I would recomend. However, I would consider a few factors before choosing which to purchase first.

Are you serious about going to nerf wars soon? If so I'd start off with a BigBadBow or BigBlast. The next question would be how comfortable you are with modifications. If the answer is "not very", then I would recomend the BigBadBow as the basic modification essentially consists of sawing down the barrel and adding a replacement.

If you are, instead, just starting out and more interested in shooting the gun in your basement or with a couple of friends, I'd recomend starting out with the nightfinder. They are simple to mod, can be modded to shoot extremely hard, or just hard enough for a friendly skirmish, and are cheap enough to buy in a large quantity so that you can get your friends going as well.

Hands down Spygear signal launcher. I bought one of these off the Mass. Kids at Apoc and it's fucking awesome. You don't even have to mod it. Just pop the cap off the barrel and you can shove mini's down there. If you want to get your hands dirty modding a bit, just saw off the barrel to like an inch and glue a coupler on it. There's nothing internal to do to this thing, in fact I'd be afraid to. I'm far from a noob, but I hate modding guns, so this thing has made my day. Find one. I bought it from the kids for like 10 bucks.

That gun is Awesome. Basically the same as the big blast only the pump is under and forward facing rather then at the ass end. Funny I forgot about this gun since I have 3. But yeah they are awesome.
If your target still has them you might be able to grab one for about 5 or 10 bucks on clearance. If not then you might have to pay the full 20 bucks for it. I got two at Target for 4.98 each and one for 9.98. Happy times.

I just wouldn't recomend it for his first nerf gun. He's probably gonna be shooting at his best friend from accross the basment. Why the hell would he need that kind of pop?

I was under the impression he was going to be modding it. If he's going unmodded in a basement then I'd go with the longshot and a maverick.

i already have a ls with a recon spring added and the barrel from the front gun modded into it.i took all the locks out also. i was just wondering, could anything bad go wrong if you take out the bolt lock on your ls? i did and haven't noticed a difference. i am ok with modding guns as long as they are fairly simple to do. i already tried to mod my recon and broke it, so i wasted $20, but whatever.

My Longshot is missing the bolt lock too, only because I haven't figured out how to put it in right. No real problems for me yet, except it sometimes fires by itself. But only sometimes. It might or might not be bad for the gun, but I'd ask someone more experienced about that.

I would buy something investment worthy. my first nerf gun was a longshot. Now you asked for a under 30$ gun. But considering it shoots over 30ft stock and it comes with two quick reaload clips and twelve steamline darts for 40$. Plus that crappy front gun can be integrated with a little hard work. it may be over your buget by 10$ but in my opinion it's worth it. But vacc is right, what do you want to use it for. In my experience thought this gun has many multi purposes uses when it comes to what you want to use it for, for me it worked great indoors for shooting friends across the room or hallway and it has served me good in outdoor backyard uses. as for using it in a nerf war. mod it and it will work preatty good. I have never used a longshot in a big nerf war but many times in small-mediam nerf wars with a couple of freinds outside.

hope this helps.

Why do you start every one of your sentences on a new line? It's kind of annoying. But as everyone here has said before, Nitefinder. But instead of telling you what you need to buy, check the guns and their modding potential out for yourself. Here is the modifications directory. It has a mod for any gun that you would be looking for, that you would buy in a store. And if you like the mod, then PM the creator of the topic if they have been active lately, and ask them some questions about the gun that need answering, if you have any. If you look under "Nite Finder" in the directory, then you will see MANY mods on it, whether they are just standard AR removal, or radical modifications to improve ranges greatly.
I think I have now put in my two cents. I hope I helped a little.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

I would recommend the maverick, night finder, and the recon (without the detachable barrel).

Nitefinder (cheap)
Maverick (cheap)
Strikefire (not very)

Start off with small guns... and go on with the bad boys.
