Alright, most of the mentioned games are classics and are "must haves." I still play Super Smash Bros. whenever my brother and I are in the same town at the same time. You also need to get your hands on Bomberman 64. The multiplayer is simple yet brilliant and the single player will take quite some time to beat all the way. There, is, however, one game that was not mentioned:

OGRE BATTLE 64

This is one of the best games I have played for any console or on the PC. It just doesn't get much better. However, it is very difficult to find a copy of this (though roms for it are available). It is a great single player game. For it's time it is amazingly non-linear and the game is quite large. I'm not usually even a big fan of this type of game, but it was just addictingly fun. One of those games you just "had to beat." And then, probably beat it again along a different path.

Oh yeah, and make sure you play Zelda: Ocarina of Time, it's been mentioned before, but it rules!

If I had to pick the best N64 game, It would be Super Mario 64. That game has everything. The graphics were very good for the n64, the controls were flawless, and the game play, stage variety, and over all "pwnageness" makes this game my personal favourite. The newer version for the DS 'aint half bad either. I love the glitch in Dry Dry Desert where you can fly around with no health left is awesome! :D

EDIT: On a side note, at least somebody here plays Starcraft right? I heard there actually was a Starcraft64 that was released by Blizzard, and was there only console game to date.

Yeah, Strarcraft64 was actually my first exposure to Blizzard. I loved that game. Unfortunately there were slight (but key) differences in the two versions (N64 and PC) and when I first played on a PC I did quite poorly because I mis-estimated the strength of units (the main difference in the two is the strength of units...i.e. zealots suck in N64...and the fact that upgrades offer almost no improvement in the 64 version).

Zealots suck? Impossible! Do you still play PC Starcraft? If so PM me. I'm Computer(1337) on USA East.

Alice came to the fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

I'll chime in with my votes, may of which have already been echoed above:

Super Mario 64 - simple, fun, deep, hours of play

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - One of the best Adventure games ever created, a must-have

Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer - One of the best Star Wars games on the 64, and great fun to boot!

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - Great fun!

Gauntlet: Legends - "Blue Archer needs food badly" - a great version of a great series.

Goldeneye: 007 - The only shooter that you'll ever need for your 64, period. Too bad you can't go above 4 players - otherwise this would still be one of the best shooters out there!

Star Wars Episode I - Racer (significantly improved with expansion pak)

Use the cheat that allows two controllers to control one Podracer, and it gets even more interesting & difficult.

Oh, I forgot about Mario Kart 64. That game was AWESOME! One of my favorites for the N64. I should go dig up my n64 and play that... My favorite track was Sherbet Land. The Mario Kart games pwned.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

Well, the obvious ones would be:
Starfox 64
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros.
Zelda: Ocarina of Time

But, if you're into 1st person shooters, then I recommend:
DOOM 64 (bad graphics, but solid gameplay and it's awesome)
Turok 2 (The campaign mode is often confusing, but awesome multiplayer makes it worthwhile)

I don't care what anyone else says, Atom Blasters are fucking awesome.

You know, I'm going to agree with Butt and say get an emulator. It's what I'm using, and almost all of those games that people mentioned work. There are many pros and cons of emulators, but here are the most significant ones:

Pros:
Free
Can get whatever game you want
Have built-in cheats for every game

Cons:
Goldeneye doesn't work!
Many other games don't work, but most of the good ones do
You don't actually use the real controller (makes a difference when playing Super Smash Bros.)
Only one player unless you want to get cramped

If you are ready to invest the money into it, then I would say buy the system, but if you don't care that much and just want to play some fun games, grab an emulator like I did. And get both Zelda games. Their worth it.
