Ok, I was playing around with my recon and i did all the simple mods, removed air restrictor, e-tape around the plunger. I also covered up the hole on the side of the bolt. Anyway, I was shooting it and the back of my plunger ripped off and the bolt went right through it. im now on my third plunger(my friend let me take his and i had a broken recon lying around). can anyone tell me why it keeps happening, and both breakings happened within 24 hours of each other...

We could probably use some pictures. I assume you are talking about the ARMED tube, which would slide over. Have you done anything to increase the spring strength? How much E-Tape did you put around the plunger? The amount that you use should only cause the spring to fit a little tighter, too tight will cause the tube to break.

which part of the plunger the one with the "ARMED" on it? It may be the e-tape, mine couldn't handle it and the spring got too compressed and if I didn't take it out it would of broke the black cap off. Your friends tube may have been like mine and couldn't handle it. Never rule out the fact that the Recon is cursed to anyone willing to mod one. Pictures would help allot.

EDIT: analogkid beat me to it

i did the SAME EXACT MODS and the same exact thing happened to me. i tried using bondo to attach it back to gether but it didn't work out. if you do this mod again just super glue some faom as a cusion in the back to the air chamber.

Well, for the short life me recon lived it worked fine. The plunger never broke for me. I don't know why it is breaking but you might want to try putting something like foam to pad the plunger when it hits the barrel. Thats the problem with inverted plungers, the back directly hits the barrel. Thats not normally a problem since the AR in the recon acts like a pad, making the plunger slow down before it hits the barrel, but with out it the barrel takes the full force of the spring.

Why dont you try on the next recon you get to put some type of buffer inbetween the plunger tube inner and outer on the back end. This will stop plastic from hitting plastic which is most likely what is causing your plunger to break. The AR would normally slow the plunger down enough to make the plastic on plastic damage insignificant but without it the damage is far greater and with what seems to be the weaker plastic they are using nowadays it is too much for it.
So the answer is simple in addition to not dry firing the gun (which I garentee does more damage then it does with a dart in it) all you need to do is put a bumper in it and it will help alot I almost garuentee.

By like, 6 days.

Maybe tone down your springs a bit, as well as padding the plunger as others have noted.
