So, I recently finished my homemade rifle. The bolt and plunger are similar to Boltsniper's FAR, and the rest is random stuff I threw together to make it work. It gets about thirties level and this is where the problem comes in. The dart seems to be sailing along fine at about 20-25ft and then it dives. It is rather strange, so the question is, what may be causing this and has it ever happened to you?

Is your dart weighted too much? Also are you planning to put a clip on that?

I think the darts are fine, it might be that the spring isn't strong or long enough? I was thinking about a clip but i don't have the materials right now, but maybe someday I'll put one on.

try making your stefans with just hotglue tips, you never know if that is the problem until you experiment.

Is your spring strong enough to create enough air pressure to launch it? How long is the spring? Is it nite finder length or longer? If its NF length than go with an ACE #49 spring. Is the o-ring the right size? I know its a stupid question but if the compression isn't right then you won't get desired ranges.

The spring thats in it is from a longshot, I'm pretty sure its just not long enough.

Try a HandyMan spring from Home Depot. But be sure to reinforce the trigger mechanism.

I was going to suggest that. Or maybe nest another spring in the one from the long shot if you can't get one from home depot. Check the O-ring while you're in there as well. But I think that isn't the problem.

Also, you know those confeti bombs from the dollar store? I got one that was about a foot long, and its the strongest spring I have. Also it is the same diameter as a longshot spring but its about twice the length. You should try one of those.

Could you describe that in further detail, or drop me a link? I don't recall ever seeing such a thing.
