I recieved a splitfire quite a while ago and the right barrel leaks. I can't seem to find the problem, when I pump it the air enters the both chambers. The left chamber remains pressurized. About 1/4 of a second later the right chamber makes a small popping sound and sometimes a small hiss.

Help!

It's a distinct possibility. But seriously, that's all you could come up with? You are a terrible Troll.

It's developed a leak. Open it up, spray silicon lube down the barrel, let it sit, and if it still doesn't work your SF is leaky. All you can do is pump it really fast and hope nothing leaks out.

How about pumping it up and then submerging it in water to find the source of the leak?

Try cleaning the plunger tube pump up and the oring.

Then, put some silicone spray in the leaky barrel, then pump really fast say, 7 pumps. Let it sit for a day, then shoot it out. If that doesn't work, a singled spitfire would be cool... Maybe with a 2k next to it?

Edit:

Opps :D

it's actually quite common for splitfires to wind up having one side slightly leaky. I'd suggest spraying the leaky side with silicone spray lube, as well as spraying some into the pump tube and pumping it through the system. but I can't say it will actually make it better, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. the only other option is to switch to a tighter fitting barrel material and hope for the best.

Okay, so I have to ask...did you purchase this from General Cole...or did the person you got it from purchase it from General Cole (you remember, that pale, scrawny "inventor" of "Bob the Guru" that got banned for pissing people off regularly and thoroughly)? The only reason I ask is because I sold him a leaky SplitFire. I told him what was wrong with it and he seemed confident that he could fix it.

It didn't just "leak" like most people think a SplitFire does, when pumping it you get one maybe two pumps out of it before you feel a pop, almost like an overpressure release valve is kicking in somewhere and most or all of the air leaves the right barrel. But, if you keep pumping quickly through this, the left barrel builds pressure and fire normally. Does that sound familiar? If so, you're probably screwed.

General sold that to RyanXXXXX and he's got it on sale on the MNSCO thread in the Nerf Wars area.

Silicone oil causes rubber, vinyl, and many other plastics to soften and swell.

The effect is temporary (usually on the order of weeks, sometimes months) and the long term effects are most definitely harmful - shrinking and then usually cracking.

If applications are repeated often enough before cracking can begin, you might be able to "get away with it" for a few years even, but the rubber/vinyl will in essence be "addicted" to silicone oil, and will most likely fail horribly ... eventually.

It's not quite as extreme as soaking a graham cracker in milk, but that image should help you get the picture...

Your science means nothing to me.

Mine works still, after having it for ~10 months, mine works PERFECTLY after doing the silicone spray trick. But I'll have to wait more I guess. I know Shadowkid33 did the same to his and it fixed it.

This adds nothing and is only ever so tangentially related to the topic. That would be slightly annoying if this was a current topic. Seeing as it is, in fact, 5 months old, this is a direct violation of ourCode of Conduct, which you agreed to when you registered for this site. A more acceptible alternative to posting in this topic would have been to send a private message to Bob, seeing as this message was meant specifically for him anyway.

Please either follow the link I just provided, or the one in the upper lefthand corner of your screen, and familiarize yourself with our standards. Further violations may result in a temporary or permanant suspension of your posting privledges.
