Okay, so I have to ask...did you purchase this from General Cole...or did the person you got it from purchase it from General Cole (you remember, that pale, scrawny "inventor" of "Bob the Guru" that got banned for pissing people off regularly and thoroughly)? The only reason I ask is because I sold him a leaky SplitFire. I told him what was wrong with it and he seemed confident that he could fix it.
It didn't just "leak" like most people think a SplitFire does, when pumping it you get one maybe two pumps out of it before you feel a pop, almost like an overpressure release valve is kicking in somewhere and most or all of the air leaves the right barrel. But, if you keep pumping quickly through this, the left barrel builds pressure and fire normally. Does that sound familiar? If so, you're probably screwed.

Silicone oil causes rubber, vinyl, and many other plastics to soften and swell.
The effect is temporary (usually on the order of weeks, sometimes months) and the long term effects are most definitely harmful - shrinking and then usually cracking.
If applications are repeated often enough before cracking can begin, you might be able to "get away with it" for a few years even, but the rubber/vinyl will in essence be "addicted" to silicone oil, and will most likely fail horribly ... eventually.
It's not quite as extreme as soaking a graham cracker in milk, but that image should help you get the picture...
