I thought of this mod when I saw the drum clip in the Doomsayer Sighting thread. This mod is simple to do, so here is a step-by-step write-up on how to make a drum magazine clip for longshot/recon clips. This mod is purely cosmetic, and just a way of adding to the cool factor of the longshot

Materials
  • Foam Craft Board
  • Construction Paper (White)
  • Tape
  • Hot glue
  • 1/2 in PVC
Posted Image
Print out this template, and this template, before you print, click on full size, then copy and paste it to a word document. Trace them onto foam craft board, or lexan. NOTE: DO NOT resize these templates, if you printed them correctly, the strip should be 15in. long.

Posted Image
Cut them out with an exacto-knife and they should look like this.

Posted Image
Slide the Clip into the two groove's and apply hot glue.

Posted Image
The clip should now look like this.

Posted Image
Wedge a 2in Segment of 1/2in PVC into the middle of the clip.

Posted Image
Tape the strips of paper together, it should be about 15in.

Posted Image
Posted Image
As you wrap the strip of paper around the clip, apply hot glue to keep it held down.

Posted Image
Posted Image
Give it a good paint job.

Posted Image
Now you are done. The strip template is long enough that it leaves a little bit open towards the end so darts can be stored in the magazine.

Honestly?
It looks very frail, pointless, and pretty much a waste of time.
No offense to you, however. It's just that it'll get in the way and it has no function.

No, It doesn't interfere with the pump action or the holding of the gun.

It looks very frail, pointless, and pretty much a waste of time.

It is actually very sturdy, makes the gun look cool (in my opinion) and holds darts, and takes about 15 minutes to make (not including paint drying).

Sure, it might look cool. But its useless? I mean, I'm all for cosmetic mods, but I want someone to create a drum mag that ACTUALLY works as a mag. I mean to be able to have a 40 round mag in a LS would be devistating, so get to it!

dude that looks sweet, i like the idea.

however, im willing to bet that putting in the clip would be a bit of a pain, since you can't really push up on that kind of a structure, without damaging it.

Thanks, actually, because of the PVC on the inside, if you grip it on the foam board and push up, it goes in very smooth.

When you say, "it holds darts," i'm guessing you mean the drum mag. Well if the drum mag (craft foam w/ PVC) holds darts, where do you put the darts in and where do you get it out? I think that this is actually a pretty cool mod, and I've always wanted a drum mag in a longshot, (that's functional of course) but hey, this is still cool! I'd do this right now but I don't have any craft foam...does anyone know where to get some?

P.s. If the drum mag does hold darts(when i'm saying this I mean the clip is inside the drum mag, so when you run out of ammo in the clip, you can somehow open a slot and make darts fall out, reload your clip, and load it back into the gun) then I find this to have a little practical use, the only disadvantage of this mod is that you have to use clips that aren't modded (the double clip)

Precisely, there is about a 1/2in slot that darts can be fit through, the darts fall out and you can reload the clip. I'm guessing it can hold 50. Here is a crappy picture of the slot,

EDIT- Just got finished measuring, this mod can still be done with double clips using the same templates. It looks the same except the clip goes all the way through the magazine.

I agree with many of you, this would be very cool if it actually worked. However, if you really think about it, accomplishing that feat would be nearly impossible (and I mean making it work like an actual drum magazine that uses an auto-advance). Maybe for the vulcan, but not the longshot. Maybe this "mod" will be the foundations of a breakthrough in manufacturing a real working drum magazine. Does anyone actually like this?

I think your going in a good direction. maybe its not very useful, but most crappy ideas are put out there for other people to capitalize on, and who knows maybe someone will be able to find inspiration from this and make it work. modding really is a trial and error thing

Its been done, better and functional (well, somewhat) by our man telekinetic.

Telekinetic's Drum Mag

However, there is no write up. Maybe you could shoot him an email, as he still drops in from time to time. Last time was on Halloween, debuting his Punisher nerf stuff.

I don't see how that other drum mag would have worked, the drum part was to high on the mag for it to fit in a longshot or recon as far as i could see.

I think you should have made it a very functional dart holder. Like, the whole thing opens, so you can store about 50 darts in it or something. But at this point, it looks quite unwieldy, and it's gotta be hard to remove clips with that thing on there.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

An idea to make it a tad more useful:

Glue small sections of PVC (half the size of your darts) onto the front piece of craft foam, then find a way to hinge the back flap, so that way you can flip it down, grab some darts easily, without them falling out, then flip if back up.

I get all giddy when I see VACC browsing a stupid topic. I just know someone is going to get banned.

Personally I dont think it is very usefull, unless it feeds bullets into the clip, but I like your creativity and I hope you keep up the ideas

I'll take that as a challenge. I actually have plans of making one of two clip systems, one of which is a big drum mag. It's a simple design really.

Why in the world would anyone make a drum mag for the Vulcan.

What I think would have been more practical (albeit far uglier), would be if you stuck like 6 clips into your drum mag, pointing outwards along the circle. Then to reload, all you need to do is pull out the clip system, spin 60 degrees, and stick it in again. No fetching from the back of the gun, or off of the NWS.

The reloading problem could be solved by having a pin come through the mag and out the side so you could push the spring end back instead of the darts pushing it back also you could track how much ammo you have left
