Hey, I recently recieved a Recon, and I was modding it, and the way it works, it looks like a straw mod would work well. What do you guys think?

I think deaddumpster did a straw-mod on his recon. If I remember correctly, he got pretty good results doing so. You could try the search feature and see what turns up.

I think he used a piece of a pen...

Yes, and the pen ID was too small to get good ranges even with a strong spring. I still got around 42' (flat, at stomach level with a BBB spring instead of the RF20 spring) so with a large enough straw you should be hitting around 50'. I'm planning on doing this sometime soon to my other Recon, probably this week though there's been a lot of shit popping up lately. I'll post my results when I'm done.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A good nerf gun is like a good woman. It shouldn't require extra lubrication.

I did a straw mod to mine back in mid December, and it decreased range considerably.
