This is my first write up and I'm typing it up and taking pictures with the finished gun,so bear with me please.

I'm not sure if this will work with the old zappers, i think their inner workings are diffrent then these new ones, but here is what i started with.
Posted Image
and this the the gutted gun who donated it's internals, i got it for $2 at walgreens.
Posted Image
Start by gutting the zapper and sanding down the inside the barrel, then try setting the internals in the gun to get an idea of where you need to place them,
Posted Image
cut the plunger rod off just a little past where it comes out, then drill a hole in it, so after you cut down the cord, you can tie it on.
Posted Image
You'll need to cut off the center screew post on the green outer shell to make room for everything to sit down in there, you'll have to sand down the side of the front green post too. When you know where the internals will be sitting, you need a front stop for the tube, i used the little orange peice from the front of the starting gun. You'll also need to build a back plate for the spring and a channel to house the spring catch(i just used plastic i riped off on the starting gun) and on the other side of the main body you will need to line up a peice of plastic to make sure the catch stays down, it should be just as tall as that half of the shell. Also when you are gutting the zapper, make sure to keep the part that goes behind the trigger, you'll keep that same sound when you pull the trigger and it will act as a spring
Posted Image
You need to sand down the sides of the tube and the top of the little wheel you'll use to redrict the cord to come out at the bottem(I distroyed my double shot some time ago and now it's sitting in peices, but i found the little wheels in that work perfectly)
Posted Image
last thing to do is building up the trigger, this was kind of an odd step where you need to figure out where you need to build upto so it will push on the spring catch.
Posted Image
Then all that's left is to put everything together.
Posted Image

I hope you enjoyed this and that it helps.

I really want to make this except I might replace the internals with a nf.

It's more fun this way.

I also wanted to use a NF, but alas the zapper is realllllllllllly thin and the spring tube from a NF is almost thicker then the zapper.

Maybe you could use a cf plunger tube.
Also, would you be able to compare the off brand plunger tube with a nf or cf one?

the NF tube is about 1 in, you need it to be about 3/4in

Because combining a Zapper Gun with a Nerf gun is fucking awesome.

This is probably my favorite writeup of all the ones I've seen on this site. Great job.

The only way that this could have been better is if you used the shell from a genuine zapper, like if your zapper broke.

I have one of the older zappers and would love to do this, but it's my brother's and I don't think he'll let me do it.

A CF plunger tube is not nearly as good as the off-brand blaster. I have one of the off-brand blasters and as you can well see it has a normal plunger design, the CF has a reverse plunger, which is not only inefficient but also smaller.

When speaking about a swallow, always make sure you know whether it is an African or European swallow. It is very important.

I wasn't really thinking about the plunger set up I was thinking of the size.

NerfMonkey pegged it...this is fucking awesome. And it's not solely because of the NES/Nerf synthesis; your little detail of priming the gun by pulling on the cord is pure win. Well done.

Cool, I was hoping after I asked you about it on NHQ that you would do a write-up. I'd like to find an original, broken Zapper to do this with, and I think that making your own plunger system for this would probably be easy if you can't find the blaster he used. Time to do some eBay/Craigslist searching...

Alright, I went out just now and bought a little off brand ttg and found out that a cpvc coupler fit on the end of the little gray piece perfect and shoots maybe 5 or more feet further.

Thanks, the zapper was a bit of a let down tho, it only gets about 5 feet, tho i am really happy with it other then that, i made it so when you pull on the cord, it cocks the gun.

But as I said with a barrel replacement I got around 30ft(with a cdtd) (with one of the good darts that came with it I got around 20ft). I know exactly why it doesn't shoot far and that is because the stock barrel is about 1 in.

Rad man. I wish i was viewing this at home so I could see the pics (work blocks photobucket)
But after reading about it in your other thread and seeing a zapper at the thrift store I was horribly tempted to make one myself. Great thinking even it it doesn't get great ranges.

Edit: Now I see pics. No wonder you're getting shitty ranges that gun is a horrible POS! lol. you might have been able to get a little better power out of one of the bigger TTGKO's that target has.

Very nice. Now you just need a nice Nintendo logo to slap on the thing!

(And anyone who doesn't get this mod just isn't old enough to see how cool it is!)

Ok, for your next challenge: Integrate a SSPB into an N64 controller. :)

Ha ha - my strange mind has inspired a mod.

I would only mind if you did this, and then failed to show off the awesomeness that is your own personal fusion of Nintendo and Nerf. :)
